Capítulo 1099: Chapter 892: The Interrupted Departure Declaration
The White Dragon Queen’s clearly unfriendly tone made the junior mages hesitate.
Edna, however, chuckled helplessly, “Leon, has your Josanie gone causing trouble in the woods again? Elvia, don’t be mad at the little one!”
The White Dragon Queen lowered her snake-like head in front of Leonard, “Are you finding life too dull, that’s why you made a contract with the fairy dragon?
How can you stand something that always pranks?”
Leonard sheepishly scratched his head, “But Josanie never plays pranks on me! Besides, see, she’s already a full-grown lady in purple! She’s really more restrained than before.”
Elvia snorted disdainfully, “What kind of joke are you talking about? Restrained? A dragon named fairy? If she gets skinned by some white dragon, you’d better not save her!”
Leonard promptly replied, “Of course, I’ll still save her. If she breaks anything, come to me. I’ll pay the bill!”
Edna smiled wryly and interrupted their conversation, “Elvia, for Lynn’s sake, don’t scheme against that little one, okay?”
Leonard’s lavishly clueless demeanor, presumably, would eventually lead him to asking his brother to ransom him under Elvia’s extortion.
The White Dragon Queen thought for a moment, then reluctantly replied to Arausato’s hint, “Alright! Let’s consider it for the children’s future.”
It’s not that she didn’t understand Edna’s implication; many of their offspring are still living in Agleya on free meals!
It’s said these young dragons are now living the good life, having toys to play with while being well-fed and clothed… Many young adult white dragons slightly regret not going to Agleya.
Female white dragons inherently like to nest, knowing they can ignore things once they hatch the eggs, some young minds are planning on having a couple of nests for fun before making a contract with the Undead Tribe.
If Lynn gets upset with their extortion of his brother, not allowing Hill to keep raising new little dragons, then wouldn’t it backfire on themselves?
Elvia certainly doesn’t want to painstakingly go out hunting at that time… After signing a contract with humans, this is the downside; she no longer can freely raid those who raise cattle and sheep.
Arausato regarded those junior mages with a critical eye, “Edna, couldn’t you just go out with Leonard? Why must you bring these weaklings? Elvia is not used to protecting others.”
Leon suddenly chimed in, “No worries, Josanie is great at hiding people.”
Arausato’s unfolded wings stiffened in midair; his wrinkled face unknowingly crumpled into a bitter melon look, “Leon, how are you nothing like Lynn?”
The half-elf mage beamed a naïve smile that Arausato could only describe as silly, “Lis’ mom says I resemble the Sun Elves more, but Lynn is more like Dad.”
Edna couldn’t help but laugh aloud, “Arausato~let it be~ there’s no need to establish such prestige. I believe in these mages’ sense of responsibility.”
She gathered her long brown curls behind her head, “No matter how things started off, unless my father suddenly disappears, they wouldn’t trouble me.
After all, with Leon around, it’s rather difficult for them to do anything to me. Besides, after leaving, Josanie will still be there! Fairy dragons are always sensitive to malice, even the slightest bit can be detected.”
Arausato pondered for a few minutes before nodding solemnly, “Then I’m heading back to the forest… I need to catch that little butterfly wings and toss her out! She’s utterly annoying.”
Leonard, if you really can’t manage your magical pet, you can let Lynn find Hill. The Lord of Agleya has plenty of good stuff to tie her up, or lock her in a cage.”
Leonard displayed an awkward smile… If he could bear treating Joanie like that, he wouldn’t have let that butterfly dragon with purple crystal wings grow into such a lawless character.
During her time at the Tower of Nature, Josanie never curbed her love for mischief; but since she came from Lost Peak, with a nest of elders and an ancient fairy dragon at home to back her up… If that one is unhappy, people from the Tower of Nature can’t even step outside their door.
So even if other mages are not too happy, Leonard can only usually keep Josanie at Lost Peak, minimizing trips to the Magic Tower… Can’t even say ‘don’t come back anymore.’
Leonard sometimes feels that he accomplished his graduation task so smoothly not just because he always says the wrong words.
Though Edna and the others are chatting merrily, several junior mages under the pressure of two White Dragons can only grit their teeth and stand firmly, clenching their fists.
If the four Quel Senta mages had any schemes in their minds earlier, they’d now all be utterly extinguished.
They even found it odd, if Edna had brought two White Dragons from the start… with one being an Ancient White Dragon… they would have surrendered long ago!
Why struggle at all!
But Edna understood well that Arausato’s appearance after demonstrating her prowess serves as the last ballast, securing her adventuring vessel.
If I were to seize dominance with a heavy hand from the start, surely the unstable factor of Arausato following them wouldn’t follow… Over time, the deterrence would naturally diminish.
And Elvia, though she is just an Ancient Dragon, her renowned brilliant mind stands against the joint efforts of four mages from different factions with seven rings; they would surely find countless ways to deal with her.
Therefore, she must first demonstrate her ability to become a leader and then use a show of force to consolidate her authority. Edna doesn’t wish for a crisis to arise before her adventure even begins.
She can’t place all her hopes on Leonard… What if he’s sent away?
The game of power can never be played relying on others.
“Tsk!” This grand drama unfolding in the small square in front of the Alchemy Hall was broadcast blow-by-blow on the large screen, prompting Shaer to sigh at Edna’s endless small tricks.
“Huh…” Celene pondered blankly, “Will Midnight finally break away from the lineup of silly gods?”
“What is this? Did you give those fools a ranking too?” Shaer asked confusedly, “Are the deities of your Kind Alignment this bored? Aren’t you on the list?”
“Are you comparing me to Midnight?” Celene asked in astonishment, “Being willful and completely clueless are two different things, ok?”
Hill quietly moved his glass away from his mouth, afraid he might accidentally spit it out.
Even Shaer found herself speechless in the face of Celene’s shamelessness and could only change the topic to ask, “Who are the fools you are talking about? Valkin?”
“Yes. Valkin is eternally number one, even stronger than Bianbori.” Celene replied straightforwardly, “Midnight is just ranked, but the top few don’t include her; Amanata ranks higher than her.
I won’t mention the others, as they’re not the type you’d care about.”
Shaer was silent for several seconds before saying helplessly, “I understand. Is the redhead this boring? Never mind, let’s watch the giant screen!”
Hill blinked and finally understood why Celene didn’t mention other deities. Because the redhead would surely include the elf’s Goddess of Love and Beauty in this ranking.
But as the eternal rival of Shuni, the redhead wouldn’t want to demean her too much… So Rose would definitely appear on this list as well, ranking highly.
Thus, understanding this, Shaer finds the topic a bit dull.
Celene didn’t directly say it, possibly because she’s worried Hill might spill it when chatting with Coron… After all, Shuni once protected her for so long, and the Maiden of the Moon doesn’t want to betray her friend.
Though their views differ, and their styles are completely opposite, friends remain friends even if not in frequent contact.
So, Celene is also right in her judgment; she’s simply willful without caring about others’ thoughts, but definitely not stupid.
The previous Magic Goddess before she figured out the Divine Kingdom of Josse Garden, and before she fully turned the former Mystra’s Chosen into her own Chosen, challenged the Weave’s underlying laws merely to maintain ‘always being oneself, changing for no one or nothing’, that Midnight, indeed, was a bit foolish.
Hill lowered his eyes, though he had always appeared only linked to Coron, the unity within the Elf Deity System means that the Goddess of Love and Beauty, one of the three Goddesses that make up the God Queen of Elves, had Celene’s precaution against him.
Celene mumbled, “Strangely, why do I feel that Midnight is just Midnight?”
Hill turned to look at the moonlight in the pool, not quite understanding what the Maiden of the Moon meant.
What does it mean that Midnight is merely Midnight?
But Shaer understood what her sister was saying: “For her, it might actually be a good thing, as from start to finish she remains herself.”
Hill stared blankly at the giant screen… Why couldn’t he comprehend what they implied in their words?
Are they implying that the Goddess ultimately standing within the Weave embodies Edna’s character and temperament?
But that soul still belongs to Midnight! Just reincarnated as Midnight.
His understanding of deities is indeed too limited.
Hill suddenly realized that witnessing such a significant event that might lead to the emergence of the fourth-generation Magic Goddess in Toril was definitely not just for amusement.
On the giant screen, Edna finally counted her team and their attendants. Holding her manual, she stood on the small square and confidently declared, “Tomorrow at dawn, we set out! First, we will visit the Habers in Long Saddle Town…”
A sharp sound of wind accompanied by a child’s scream suddenly interrupted Edna’s passionate speech… Arausato had finally captured Josanie, now kicking her like a ball midair toward Leonard.
