Chapter 322: Chapter 320: Will Not Regret [5 Updates]
"I can go by myself." When it came to the prenatal checkup, Maya Spencer remembered now that she had said she was pregnant merely on a hunch and hadn’t undergone a formal examination yet.
Liam Spencer, seeing Maya’s refusal, swallowed and calmly said, "I have time."
On the large bed, Maya listened to the man’s unhappy voice, slightly raised her head, and glanced at him. Obviously, if she continued to refuse him, he would definitely get angry. So she nodded towards Liam and said, "Okay!"
Thus, after getting up and finishing their tasks, Liam drove Maya to the hospital.
In the car, Maya sat in the passenger seat, turned her head towards the window, and unlike yesterday, didn’t sneak a glance at Liam.
Liam, noticing the girl’s low spirits, lifted his right hand, pinched her chin, and asked, "What are you thinking?"
"Nothing!" Maya smiled at him and answered.
Being by Liam’s side, she couldn’t be happy, and this life without stability gave her no sense of security.
She not only had to care for the child’s health but also consider Liam’s emotions. As of now, all she hoped for was for Liam to stay calm until she safely delivered the child.
At this moment in Maya’s heart, nothing was more important than the child. She didn’t want to owe this child anything more.
Liam, listening to Maya’s perfunctory response, took a deep breath, trying to ease his displeasure.
These days, he stayed in Maya’s villa, accommodating her and enduring her in every way. Although she still smiled at him, Liam always felt uneasy, feeling that her regard for him was superficial.
Actually, even before returning to the villa, Maya had this attitude. It’s just that at that time, Liam was colder to Maya. Now, he cared more about her feelings, but his change hadn’t earned him special treatment from Maya, and he was naturally at ease.
He looked at Maya twice, relaxed his mood, rubbed her head, and said, "Three years ago, the small bed we bought can still be used."
"Throw it away! It’s unlucky." When Liam mentioned three years ago, Maya’s expression noticeably dimmed as bad memories resurfaced.
Liam, observing the sudden change in the girl’s expression, pinched her face, making her look at him, and said very seriously, "Maya, if you have something on your mind, just say it. With your attitude, I don’t know how long I can endure."
Finally, Liam’s anger was almost unbearable, giving Maya a verbal warning, hoping she’d be sensible.
Listening to the man’s threat, Maya gently lifted her small hand, removed his large hand from her face, forced a smile, and said, "Uh-huh! I’ll try."
The more perfunctory Maya was, the more displeased Liam felt. Just days ago, he would have been angry already, but seeing her hopeless expression, he was helpless.
So he took a long breath and released her face.
At this moment, the atmosphere in the car was oppressive. To alleviate the mood, Maya took out her phone to browse the news but saw the headlines about Lillian Morris’s affair and divorce.
Beside her, Liam noticed the girl’s sudden tension and heard her rapid breathing. He reached out and snatched her phone.
When he saw the explosive news, he slightly raised the corner of his mouth, coldly laughed, and thought to himself, "What a good Lillian Morris." To protect Maya, she didn’t mind sacrificing her own reputation, which meant he had to prepare for a showdown.
Liam trusted Lillian’s character unconditionally. Although he disliked this man very much, he wouldn’t believe these fabricated news reports either.
When he handed the phone back to Maya, he glanced at her several times, seeing her bite her lower lip tightly, looking extremely anxious.
He knew she was worried about Lillian; currently, only Lillian could evoke emotions in Maya.
Seeing the girl’s concern, Liam swallowed, took a deep breath, rolled his eyes at Maya, then lifted his right hand to rub his temples, blocking his eyes to avoid focusing on Maya, who was worrying about Lillian, fearing he would lose control and get angry with her again.
Liam’s agitation was felt by Maya. Seeing his soon-to-be furious demeanor, she hurriedly raised her small hand, tightly grabbed his right hand, and promised, "Don’t worry! Even if Lillian gets divorced, I won’t have anything with him."
In Maya’s heart, she never thought of being with Lillian. Given her current situation, she didn’t dare to wish to be with Lillian.
Feeling the warmth in the girl’s palm, Liam turned his head, looked at her, and tightly held her small hand, saying, "Maya, don’t go back on your words, or you’ll regret it."
Of course, Liam wouldn’t lay a hand on Maya now, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t take action against others, the ones Maya cared about.
"I won’t go back on them." Maya had long understood that she would only have freedom if Liam got tired of her and didn’t want her. Besides, she felt unworthy of anyone in her current state.
Listening to the girl’s promise, although his heartbeat continued to accelerate inexplicably, Liam couldn’t shake a bad premonition. However, his anger had subsided a lot, and the urge to rage at Maya vanished.
A moment later, the car finally reached the hospital indicated by Maya. Clearly, it was only a 40-minute drive, but Liam felt it was torturous, and his mood also turned gloomy.
In the parking lot, after parking the car stably, Liam immediately unfastened Maya’s seatbelt and kissed her lips as a reminder, "Maya, we will have our own life."
Maya, looking at the man’s tightly furrowed brows and tense demeanor, knew he was the cage of her lifetime, an inescapable one. So, she smiled at him and said, "Uh-huh."
Even though she tried hard to appear at ease, that trace of helplessness and unhappiness in her eyes was still seen through by Liam.
But he didn’t expose it; he just got out of the car and opened the door for her, helping her out.
He comforted himself, perhaps once the baby was born, Maya’s focus would shift, and she would forget about Lillian.
By then, they could start a new life, a family of three.
In the director’s office, when Maya led Liam in, Director Parker quickly stood up to greet them, "Maya, how’s your health been lately?"
"It’s okay." Maya smiled as she replied.
Listening to Director Parker mention ’lately,’ Liam’s brow furrowed. It seemed to him that Maya indeed had a condition, which the hospital was well aware of.
Then, he heard Director Parker say, "Are you here for a follow-up today? Since you’ve returned, you haven’t had a checkup. I’ve already scheduled you with Doctor Johnson. I’ll take you there now."
"No, Director Parker, I’m not here for a follow-up. I’ve been uncomfortable these days and want to do a prenatal checkup." Maya blushed and cautiously said.
When Director Parker heard she was there for a prenatal checkup, his eyes widened in surprise, and his brows knitted as he sternly said, "Nonsense. With your current health condition, you’re not suitable for pregnancy."
Listening to this, Liam was dumbfounded; his heart felt like a heavy stone was pressing on it, making it hard for him to breathe.
