Chapter 589: +Chapter 589+

Nikolai had already brought over a bowl before he even asked, Angelo putting a sizable amount in it. The noodles were spicy but he knew that it would be nothing to Lake.

The pregnant Omega’s eyes gleamed, almost tearing up as he ditched his cup of coffee to hold the steaming bowl of noodles in both hands. "Thank you," He sniffed, "It smells really good."

Angelo panicked slightly because it really looked like Lake was about to burst into tears right there.

Fortunately, the doors opened once more, a frazzled Davian storming in. The Alpha only relaxed when his gaze settled on Lake, walking over with a question on the tip of his tongue.

Lake clutched his bowl to himself like he was worried his mate would try to take it from him.

"I couldn’t find you in your room," Davian murmured, frowning when Lake pivoted so that his back was to him.

"I wanted a drink," Lake replied guiltily. The large bowl of noodles in his arms was far from the drink he claimed to be getting.

Davian glanced at the discarded mug of hot chocolate on the kitchen island and smiled, going over to grab it and then walked back to Lake. "Sorry about this," He said to Angelo, taking the bowl from Lake.

Just as Lake was about to protest, he started for the kitchen doors. "I’ll take this to the room for you. Let’s go."

Lake turned to Angelo with a happy beam, "Thank you!" He appreciated again, darting off after his mate with a slight waddle.

Angelo didn’t realize he was smiling until he patted his cheek, straightening up from the counter he had been leaning on to find Nikolai next to him.

Nikolai completely closed the distance by pinning him against the counter, his arms framing both sides of his waist. "Do you want kids?"

Angelo’s eyes widened, more shaken by the question than he was by their position. An Alpha asking a question like that was very telling.

He looked away, unable to hold Nikolai’s gaze. "I can’t." He murmured, his voice catching.

Now Nikolai’s eyes widened, then his brows furrowed, right before they smoothened out, determination in those dark eyes. "We’ll find a way." He said confidently. "The noodles are getting cold."

Angelo was speechless, letting Nikolai take his wrist and pull him over to the dining table. He hadn’t thought anything of having children before, and now that he was no longer suppressing his secondary gender, he wasn’t given the choice to.

He sat down in front of his intimidating bowl of noodles, sighing as he picked up chopsticks. It really didn’t matter if they didn’t find a way, Nikolai staying by his side was more than enough.

Angelo woke up with a frown, looking around to find himself alone in his bed. It was still the early hours of the morning, so it was strange for Nikolai to be gone from his bed so soon.

He sat up and glanced around the room, waiting, expecting him to return soon. When that didn’t happen, he slowly laid back down, deep in thought.

Angelo hadn’t planned to fall asleep when he did, but Nikolai’s presence was too comforting. He had a feeling he would go right back to sleep whenever Nikolai joined him, it didn’t matter if he had just woken up from a night’s worth of sleep.

He reached out to place a palm on the spot that Nikolai used to be, noting that it was no longer warm, the Mafia King had been gone for a while.

It had Angelo wondering if there had been something he needed to attend to. Nikolai had been the one to invite himself to his room, why would the Alpha just up and leave?

His pondering thoughts drifted to last night; nothing had happened, not even a kiss. This was all completely new for Angelo, having never done a relationship of any kind before.

He wasn’t being delusional, was he? Nikolai wasn’t just being nice, was he? His second question should have given him his answer because Nikolai was never nice to anyone...

But there was still the evidence of last night and this morning - Angelo’s hair stirred into a bird’s nest as he tossed and turned, completely losing the ability to sleep - it would have been nice to be able to talk about this with someone.

Waking up early was a deeply ingrained habit of Jael, when it got pretty bad, he would get by with a few hours of sleep, or skip sleeping altogether.

He didn’t mind, and once things were resolved, he always got more than enough free time to make up for it.

But for Asher, the Alpha never did great with waking up early, getting a mate didn’t help any with that, so unless he absolutely needed Asher’s help with something, he left him alone.

So he was surprised to see Asher standing on the other side of his door, just as he got done dressing for the day. The Mafia King was fully dressed and completely pissed off.

Jael paused, a hand on his holster that he had been strapping up before he got to the door. "Why are you here?" He cocked a brow - he didn’t remember anything that required Asher’s presence this early.

Shit, he had barely gotten out of his room. Usually, by the time Asher joined him in the car, he had already done a quick sweep of the mansion and taken in most of the night reports.

Asher just turned around, hazel eyes unusually dark. "Less talking, more walking."

Jael followed after him quietly, questions in his eyes. Trying to figure out why Asher would be this pissed off first thing in the morning. Sure, the Mafia King had his days where he was really upset to be away from Caspian’s side, but his anger at those times were usually petulant, not the murderous rage he had going on right then.

Unfortunately, Jael had spent too long around Asher to take him too seriously or listen to his silly demands. "You’re walking the wrong way." He broke the silence.
