Chapter 579: +Chapter 579+
Angelo sat in the passenger seat, wrapped in Nikolai’s coat. He sank into the expensive seat, sitting in a cloud of Nikolai’s soothing scent.
"I told Silvia about the High Council snooping around for her location," He relayed as the car sped off.
They drove past a couple of cars, which were no doubt Nikolai’s men assigned to clean up.
"It’ll be best if she remained hidden, at least until she fully heals, but I doubt Silvia will stick to that." He murmured.
While covered with Nikolai’s coat, it was easy to ignore the sticky blood on his clothes, the Alpha’s scent doing a great job of covering up the metallic scent of blood.
Nikolai was relaxed behind the wheel; he trusted Angelo’s abilities, but he still wanted to be right next to the assassin, especially when he was in potential danger.
"The High Council should get off her back after we run all their spies out of Central Area." Nikolai pointed out. "And if things get tense, she can always take up Davian’s offer."
Angelo sighed, he knew Silvia could take care of herself, but he couldn’t help but be worried. He just had to hope that nothing would tip the current state of strained quiet into pandemonium that would force Silvia out of her safe house.
It wasn’t until they got to the mansion that Angelo remembered that Nikolai was supposed to be busy. "Don’t you need to return to the bar?"
Nikolai got out of the car and then walked around to open the door, "We can go together."
Angelo didn’t push after that; he would end up at the bar anyway, he had just been worried that he was taking the Mafia King away from more important things.
He went right into his room, stealing another of Nikolai’s coats. Although just like the first one, it was bloody and would have to be washed - or possibly burned with the rest of his clothes.
Clean up was quick from years of practice, and in no tim,e he was in a fresh set of clothes, his hair still in a tight knot. There had been no scuffle with the spies, so he didn’t have even a single bruise from the encounter.
He had changed out some of his old weapons for a new set because the previous ones needed cleaning.
Angelo was all done in no time, stepping out of his room, adjusting the strap on his arm as he did. He half-expected to find Nikolai waiting right outside his room when he stepped out, but the hallway was empty.
He walked over to the door of the Mafia King’s room, knocking lightly. It opened to reveal Nikolai in a new trench coat, his cold blue eyes scanning him over.
Angelo didn’t mind, he tended to act the same when it involved the Mafia King potentially getting hurt. He waited for the expected question about his well-being, his thoughts blanking out at what he heard instead.
"Go out on a date with me tonight?" Nikolai casually offered.
"Okay," Angelo answered without really processing what he said or even what Nikolai said to begin with.
"Are you ready to leave?" Nikolai went on as if his previous question had been of no importance.
Angelo glanced at the leather strap on his arm that he had just gotten done fixing, "Yes, let’s go." He turned around to start down the hallway, completely distracted.
A date. A date? It was something completely alien to him, and even more startling to hear from Nikolai.
What did people do on dates again? He couldn’t quite picture them in a classy restaurant or any other date scene, really.
It didn’t help that Nikolai seemed to completely forget about it right after he brought it up, his expression completely relaxed as he drove them to the bar.
The ambience of the bar was rather peaceful; it was late in the morning right then, cars lined up in the parking lot.
The only people present in the establishment right then were Nikolai’s men. A set of cars were driving in at the same time that they got to the bar, things getting done despite the slow atmosphere.
Nikolai walked right through the front doors, two armed men standing right on either side of the doors.
Angelo barely paid attention to them, he had spoken to Nikolai on their drive down here, but he couldn’t remember a word of what he had said. Too distracted to notice the attention he garnered from the security at the door and from the men lingering around the parking lot.
There was quiet music playing in the bar, dangerous men hanging by the bar counter and spread out throughout the bar, very few drinking as they waited on standby.
Angelo just walked behind Nikolai, it was nothing like the Mafia King’s casino. He still harbored hope that when the matter with the High Council was completely dealt with, Nikolai would fully reclaim his turf.
The Mafia King’s new office was notably smaller than his previous one. It was just in the back of the bar and the soft hum of the music and hushed conversations from the bar could be heard ever so lightly.
Angelo found a comfortable couch in a sitting area tucked in a corner and curled up on it.
Nikolai paused at his desk which was roughly in the center of the room, so that it was the first thing everyone saw as they walked in. He wore his disappointment plainly on his face, he had been expecting Angelo to sit next to him at his desk.
There was a knock on the door just as he had been about to call the assassin over, diverting his attention momentarily. The sight of Fallon was expected, giving him no choice but to sit all by his desk alone, Angelo at the other end of the room.
Fallon’s gaze trailed over to the male Omega sitting on one of the couches in a corner. It was like a panther curled up with its claws sheathed.
