Chapter 496: Long-lost Daughter ( 2 )

Du Beiye glanced at Lin Fei, then at the candy and energy bar in her hand. After a moment, she put them into her pocket. Using her pocket as cover, she took out two E-rank daggers from her inventory.

The daggers were all black and had no patterns at all. The blades were thin and slim, with a twenty-centimeter length. Compared to the other weapons sold in the weapons shops, her daggers looked like fruit knives instead.

She handed one to Lin Fei and the woman while saying, "Return gift for the candy."

When the woman looked at the dagger, she only thought that the girl knew how to repay kindness. Since she was indeed lacking a weapon and the dagger looked cheap, she did not refuse. "Thank you."

The people around them were envious when they saw this. Exchanging a piece of milk candy with a fruit knife was a good deal. While it might not be able to kill a zombie, having a weapon was still better than nothing.

While everyone no longer paid attention to them and continued waiting for their turns, Lin Fei checked the dagger.

He unsheathed the dagger from the scabbard and was surprised to see the blade was as thin as cicada wings, but when he flicked it, it was sturdy and flexible at the same time.

To check the sharpness, he touched the blade lightly. But before even needing to use any strength, his skin was broken upon contact and blood seeped out from the wound. It showed how sharp the blade was.

"This is a good thing," he exclaimed in his heart.

After he put away the dagger, he glanced at the girl meaningfully. For someone who was able to give away such a good weapon, she was far from simple. She might be someone with a hidden identity like his Captain.

While he was racking his brains, Du Beiye reached the counter and said, "I want one portion of every dish."

The cafeteria staff was taken aback and asked, "Comrade, are you sure you want every dish?"

Du Beiye nodded and said, "I want it all."

"We have steamed buns, steamed rice, and millet porridge as the staples. For the side dishes, we have fried eggs with tomatoes, stir-fried beans, bone soup, and sweet and sour mutant meat. A total of sixteen points."

Taking out her card, Du Beiye scanned it. When the staff saw that she still had one hundred eighty-four points, she smiled and said, "Here is your food."

Du Beiye carried two trays of food and walked to the corner table. She never needed to use any utensils and looked at the tools in front of her.

After a moment, she said, "Krayan, help me check how to use these things."

"Downloading data complete."

The next second, a transparent blue screen appeared in front of her. There were several articles and videos of how to use the sticks and other tools. After she learned it, she picked up the spoon. As a beginner, it was better to use a spoon and fork instead of the sticks.

Just when she started eating, a commotion was heard coming from the entrance. Feeling curious, she stretched her neck and saw a group of people walking to the counter.

The moment her gaze landed on the tall, handsome man leading the group, her eyes widened with surprise, and her spoon fell to the table.

She rubbed her eyes a few times before she looked at the man again. After making sure that nothing was wrong with her eyes, she said, "Krayan, give me the information about Shrotam."

"Host, any information regarding Shrotam needs permission from the Great Commander," Krayan reminded her.

When she heard this, Du Beiye frowned and said, "Do you think that after the attack, the Great Commander is still alive? What’s more, with our current situation, do I still need permission to check the information?"

Before Krayan could respond, she added coldly, "Give me the information."

Noticing the increase in killing intent of its host, Krayan shut up and pulled out the information from the system’s data server.

Without wasting time, Du Beiye quickly opened the folder and searched for Shrotam’s picture. One minute later, a picture of a man floating in blue liquid, inside a large tube, appeared in front of her.

While the man inside the tube had similar signs to a zombie and looked pale, half of his face was still intact, and she could see his sharp features clearly.

She zoomed in on the picture, then looked at the man who was smiling at the woman beside him in the distance.

Complex emotions flashed in her eyes as she muttered softly, "It’s really him."

There was a hint of disbelief, shock, and excitement in her voice. With this unexpected discovery, she no longer had the mood to eat. After she stored all the food in her inventory, she quickly walked over to the man.

At the same time, Jiao Lizhi was paying for the members’ food and noticed a young woman walking over with a solemn expression.

A moment later, the young woman stood a few steps from them. She saw the woman staring at her fiancé and called out with reddened eyes, "Father."

The moment the Phantom Team members heard this, they were stunned. Jin Xuyan and Jiao Lizhi were too stunned to speak. It took them a while to regain their composure.

Standing beside her fiancé, Jiao Lizhi looked at him and then at the young woman in front of them. Without the need for any paternity test, she was sure that these two people were not father and daughter. After all, the ages did not match up at all.

As if she did not notice the strange gazes aiming at her, Du Beiye took a step closer. She placed her right fist on her heart and gave him a forty-five-degree bow.

Her back was straight, and her posture showed that she was someone who had undergone military training. "Father, it is an honor to be able to meet you," she said solemnly.
