Chapter 789: Chapter 787 Second Only to Jiang Dashan
“Mianmian hasn’t come back, Mom and Dad, Laosan, Dashan, the reason I came this time is to take you all to the town for the New Year celebration. Yu Cheng and his uncle are spending New Year at our place this year, and we can’t make it back. My wife and I thought to bring you over since the town has everything,” Jiang Changhai explained his intentions directly.
Jiang Changhe and Jiang Changtao didn’t expect their eldest brother to invite them to spend New Year’s in the town; they didn’t dare to express their opinions, just looked at the old couple, waiting for them to make the decision.
Upon hearing this, the old couple shook their heads repeatedly. They were elderly and homebodies; occasionally staying in the town for a couple of days for a change of scenery was fine.
But now it was New Year’s, and moving the whole family there, not to mention the hassle, without any relatives nearby was a problem. They didn’t want to go, especially when they couldn’t easily visit folks for the holiday.
Moreover, they were waiting for Jiang Mianmian to return, to take her around to relatives’ homes to show her off. They looked forward to this every year—it was the time they took the most pride in.
“Eldest, we’re getting on in years and don’t want the hassle. Don’t trouble yourselves; just bring Yu Cheng and his uncle back with you for the holiday,” Jiang Dashan said directly.
“Yeah, Eldest, bringing those two back is much more convenient than our whole family going there. Besides, I’ve got all the holiday shopping done; those two more won’t make a difference,” Zhang Guihua added.
Jiang Changhai realized they had a point. If his parents were reluctant to go to the town, then his family would have to be the ones to come back.
Jiang Changhai was quickly persuaded, “Alright, Mom and Dad, I’ll go back and discuss it with them in a bit.”
“That’s right, all of you coming back for the New Year would be wonderful, lively and joyous,” Zhang Guihua said happily.
“By the way, Mom and Dad, Laosan, Dashan, I’ve got something to mention in advance. Yu Cheng’s uncle has a bit of a limp, so when he comes, don’t mention it. During the New Year’s celebration, we don’t want to put a damper on his spirits,” Jiang Changhai advised beforehand.
“We got it, Eldest. We’re good at reading the room; we won’t bring up awkward subjects,” Jiang Changtao said, chuckling, as he assured him.
“Right, Eldest, we know the score,” Jiang Changhe also quickly promised.
“Good, then go back and tell your wives and kids,” in the house, only the old couple and Laosan and Dashan were present, so he asked them to spread the word to their families.
The Jiang family members only knew that Yu Cheng had come over in the past years to find his uncle who worked on the farm, but they didn’t know he had been sent to the farm for reeducation. Hence, Jiang Changhai wasn’t worried that they would say something inappropriate.
The two brothers nodded again and again, assuring him.
Now, Jiang Changhai’s words carried weight second only to that of Jiang Dashan in their hearts; after all, one was their real father, and the other was a god of wealth as well as an older brother. The old lady could only be ranked third now.
“Mom and Dad, if there’s nothing else, I’ll head back and talk to them about coming over for the New Year,” Jiang Changhai said, ready to leave.
The old lady hurriedly said, “Eldest, wait a minute, I’ll go back with you. It’s more formal to invite Yu Cheng and his uncle to our home for the holidays.”
“Alright, then Mom, put on more clothes; it’s pretty cold today,” Jiang Changhai reminded her.
Dressed in the new cotton clothes and shoes that they had bought for her the previous year, the old lady happily rode the bicycle into town.
When the two entered, Su Wanyu was somewhat surprised.
