Chapter 225

Chapter 225: Chapter 225

[DIANA’s Point of View]

“I can’t believe you did this, Diana, Devon! You know what you both are doing is dangerous!”

My eyes widened, feeling ridiculous at what was happening after Uncle Liam caught me and Devon exploring the attic when we were forbidden to go there.

While fiddling with my fingers behind me, I looked at Devon, who didn’t have any remorse on his face but was looking down at the floor where our little pet was. Even until that moment, we hadn’t decided what to call her. But after Devon and I saw that purple glow in her eyes, we both decided to call her “purple.”

“Are you even listening to me, Diana?”

I turned my attention to Uncle Liam and blinked my eyes fast, surprised at the upset look I saw on his face. I pouted my lips, feeling awful that he had to deal with me and my brother’s curiosity about things here in the pack house, but it was something that my twin and I couldn’t help.

It was as if we were meant to find them. We were meant to learn these things to help Mom and Dad, and I have never regretted that. We wanted to help in any way we could.

Maybe we couldn’t fight the bad guys yet. My brother and I were still pups. But I believed that the Moon Goddess gave these wonderful abilities to me and my brother so we could use them for the safety of the pack and the people we love.

“Yes, Uncle Liam. It’s just Devon, and I couldn’t sleep.” I said apologetically, and Devon’s eyes widened as he nodded at what I said repeatedly as if backing up my reason to the Beta of my Dad.

Uncle Liam sighed, looking stressed as he placed his fists on his hips and glanced down at the phone he had taken from Devon’s hand. “How did you get this, Devon? I told you not to take things from people! What will your father say once I tell him that you took my phone? Why did you take my phone anyway?”

“Games?” Devon answered, which was a lie, and then looked at me as if asking me to back him up as well.

“Is that true, Diana?” Uncle Liam squinted his eyes at me, and I suddenly felt very nervous and pressured about whether I should tell the truth or hide from him. “What are you two doing in the attic?”

“Ghost hunting?” Devon answered again with that ridiculous look on his face as bullets of cold sweat started to form on his forehead. I wanted to roll my eyes at him so badly, but that would only make Uncle Liam so disappointed in both of us.

Dad’s Beta shook his head as he ran his fingers through his blonde hair. Now I understand why our babysitter, Madison, was so in love with him. He was indeed a beautiful man.

The thought made me smile.

As Uncle Liam saw that wide, innocent smile on my face, that exasperation in his eyes was changed into calmness as he bent down in front of me and pinched me on the nose. “What are you smiling at, young lady? You understand that you and your brother are both in trouble, right?”

Uncle Liam smiled helplessly at me.

“I am just thinking that Madison won’t be happy once I tell her that you are treating me and my brother like this, Uncle Liam,” I pouted my lips with my eyes on the verge of tears. I didn’t know if this would work, but I had to try. You definitely don’t want Madison to feel upset with you, especially since we already told that Devon and I were just ghost hunting upstairs. We are just kids, you know?”

That smile on his face faded, and I heard my brother hiss in surprise through our mind link. [Diana! You witty witch!]

[Don’t call me that!] I hissed back at him as I continued fiddling with my fingers behind me. [I am saving us from further interrogation here, Devon! This is all your fault!]

Devon swallowed hard after he averted his eyes from me when I shot him a deadly glare.

“Fine!” Uncle Liam threw his hands up in the air in surrender and then eyed me with disbelief. “Just go to bed, and I have to get your pet out of you—”

Purple barked at him when he was about to touch her, and he flinched, frightened after he had almost lost his fingers when Purple threatened to bite them off.

“Why are you taking her away?” I frowned at him and then took Purple and carried her in my arms protectively. “Purple is going to stay here with us. She didn’t do anything!”

He looked down at Purple as if our pet spooked him and then sighed with worry on his face. “Okay, but please go back to bed. Your Mom and Dad will come home soon, and you don’t want both of them to know what happened here.”

“We will go back to sleep, Uncle Liam. I am very sorry for causing you so much trouble.” Devon apologized as he looked down at his feet and then at Uncle Liam with pouting lips. “We just miss Mom and Dad. Diana and I are very worried about where they are, and we can’t sleep, so we just thought about going to the attic and doing something to distract ourselves.”

“I understand.” Uncle Liam ruffled Devon’s already messy dark hair with a helpless smile and then sighed deeply. I couldn’t count how many times he already sighed just tonight alone. Maybe Devon and I really stressed our Dad’s Beta, and I somehow felt guilty about it.

He continued talking to Devon in a gentle voice. “But understand that your Mom and Dad are making sure of your safety, so I just ask you not to do anything that could hurt you. Your Mom and Dad trust me that I can take care of and look after both of you, so please, I beg you guys to listen to me and not do anything that would make me and your parents upset.”

Uncle Liam tucked us into bed before he left, while scratching his forehead, and then closed the door. Seconds later, Devon was whispering to me, and I guess I should blame the strawberry cake that Madison gave him when he begged for it for thirty minutes after we ate dinner.

“Stop it, Devon!”

“No! It’s Purple! She keeps jumping on me! I guess we have to give her to Uncle Liam—”

I groaned and then jumped out of my bed and took Purple from him. She seemed restless, so I asked her gently as I smoothed her fur, “What is it, baby Purple? Do you need something? Do you need to go to the bathroom?”

“I think she wants something from my pocket,” Devon answered as he stepped out of his bed. “She kept on sniffing and trying to open it.”

“What’s in your pocket, though?” I asked as I carried Purple in my arms and walked towards my brother, curious. Did you take something from the attic?”

He scratched the side of his face with his pointed finger, and he only does that when he has done something he was not supposed to do. “Well, I just saw this small packet, and I think these are the baby teeth that I gave grandma after she asked me to have them so she could give them to the tooth fairies.”

Devon took the packet of baby teeth from his pocket and showed them to Purple with a wide smile. “You want to play with these, Purple?”

To my surprise, Purple jumped out of my arms and took the packet of baby teeth between her teeth.

“Purple!!!”

I gasped as we both watched her bark at the door to the attic as if she wanted to go there and bring the baby teeth back to where my brother took them. I glared at Devon, blaming him for taking the thing, and he just shrugged his shoulders at me as if telling me he had no idea that would happen.

“We can’t go back there, Diana. We already promised Uncle Liam that we will go back to sleep!” Devon stopped me when I was about to go to Purple to open the door. “We can’t keep stressing the poor guy, you know?”

“But Purple needs help. Look at her!” I pointed at our baby wolf cub with a worried look. “She looks restless and needs to go there badly. Maybe we can just help her for a second so she can bring it back and put that thing where it should be. Besides, it’s your fault that you took it from there!”

“Why would she want to take it back there, though?” Devon complained as he followed me towards the door of the attic after we pressed the button for the stairs to go down. I saw him roll his eyes, looking exhausted already, but I decided to ignore it.

Purple put the baby teeth in front of the broken crystal ball, which made me scared, and I immediately ran towards Devon and hid behind him with a terrified look on my face.

“What is she doing?” Devon asked, his eyes widening as well, confused at what Purple was doing.

Then we noticed that there was black mist billowing above the ceiling, and my heart started to beat so fast in my chest. I trembled as I saw it, like clouds before a thunderstorm. Devon immediately pushed me behind him protectively as we flinched but were too frozen to run back downstairs.

But as soon as Purple put down the baby teeth in front of the cursed crystal ball, we both saw how the baby teeth absorbed the clouds like they were seeping that dark energy coming from the cursed thing.

“Grandma said that the baby tooth is like a purification key!” Devon murmured with disbelief in his eyes.

“DEVON!? DIANA!?”

Devon and I turned around with fear on our faces when we saw Mom and Dad hurriedly running up the stairs. Their faces were pale as they saw the black mist being absorbed by the baby teeth that Purple brought in front of the cursed crystal ball.

“Don’t touch the wolf cub! That animal is cursed!” Dad snarled, which made me more terrified. Mom, on the other hand, grabbed me and Devon away from the black mist with shaking arms and then embraced us tight back to Dad as if she was about to cry.

“Mom! I don’t know what is happening! Believe me! Please don’t hurt Purple! She’s just helping!” I said to Mom and Dad, scared that she would be taken away from us.
