Chapter 232: Chapter 232
[SAMANTHA’s Point of View]
I moved away from the kids and hissed at Dominic. I became frustrated by his irrational anger, especially since he was aware that his accusations had no sense at all and that Killian had a mate. No way he would still have feelings for me!
“Stop it, Dominic! What are you even saying?! Killian just helped me, okay? I slipped! He had no intention of touching me! What is wrong with you?”
I glanced at the kids, and both of them looked anxious and worried about the anger they saw on my face and their father’s.
Why was he behaving like this? I stared at his face, and there was indeed something wrong with him. He was sweating bullets on his forehead. The muscles on his face were shaking, as well as his fingers. Killian must have noticed it as well because I saw how his eyes widened.
Dominic hid his hands on his back after he noticed that Killian and I stared at them. He knew. We knew the curse was worsening.
We couldn’t waste any more seconds.
“Enough of it, Dominic. I know that the curse is getting into your head.” Killian’s face turned grim as we all headed to the massive door entrance of the mausoleum.
Killian straightened his back and then deeply sighed as he continued explaining what we should do to open the door of the Wolf Tomb. “The door will only open through blood sacrifice from any of the direct descendants of the Primordial Royal Clan and their mate. It is for the spirit that guards this place. To let them know you are both worthy to get in.”
“Mom, I don’t wanna go,” Diana pouted her lips as she held my hand with teary eyes. “I have a bad feeling about this.”
Devon didn’t say anything. I could see the fear on his face as well. I looked at Dominic, but he turned his eyes away from me as he took the dagger that was sheathed on his belt.
He was determined to do it. And I didn’t know how to feel about it. I could sense something dark in Dominic that I couldn’t explain. I tried to feel him throughout our bond, but the connection was blurry—the feeling was as if I was grasping nothing in the middle of pitch black darkness, and that terrified me.
I was slowly losing him.
His blood dripped on the head of the statue, and seeing it sizzle as it touched the thing made me swallow hard.
“It’s your turn,” Dominic murmured in his raspy, aggressive tone as he glared at me. He handed me the knife, and my hands started to tremble.
Bullets of sweat started to run down my face, and I felt Killian’s stare on me. He could feel it. That terror in my chest as I looked down on the blade. I shouldn’t feel any hesitation at that moment, knowing that I wanted Dominic to get rid of the curse so badly. I couldn’t understand the reluctance that I felt.
Paranoia started to set in as I looked at the aggressive expression on my husband’s face. Would he turn back into himself once we get rid of the curse? Was it the curse that changed him? Or was it too late for me to get my husband back?
“What are you waiting for, Samantha! We have no time for any of this!” Dominic snarled at me, looking worried and annoyed at the fear he saw on my face.
Killian’s jaw tightened, aggravated at the behavior that my husband showed, but remained calm as he looked away, not wanting to be triggered more. He curled his hand into fists so tight his knuckles turned white.
I had to do it. I had to...
All of us were baffled when Diana suddenly jumped and put something on top of the head of the statue. Our eyes widened as we saw a small white thing sizzling atop my husband’s blood.
“Diana?!”
Dominic was enraged, making me and Killian crouch in full alert as he snarled at our little girl. “Why did you do that!?” His tone was harsh and jarring, which froze me for a second.
“It’s the baby tooth, Dad!” Diana answered, her eyes were teary as her lips trembled in fear. She immediately ran and hid behind her Uncle Killian, who put his arm in front of Diana protectively. “Devon and I saw that it was effective on Purple, and we both believe it can help too!”
Aghast at what he did, I was about to snarl at my husband when the heavy door and the ground suddenly shook. The eyes of the statue turned bright crimson. A thin smoke escaped the second the door started to open, and the air suddenly reeked of a rotting smell and then the scent of jasmine—the same scent I was wearing during our wedding day.
I quickly regained my balance and made sure the kids were safe as we all watched the door open before us. Dominic’s focus was on what was inside the structure as he stepped inside without checking or looking back at me and the kids.
The unpleasant changes hurt me. But I had to remind myself that it wasn’t him, and it was the curse that was making him aggressive. It was the curse that made him look as if he wasn’t Dominic anymore.
[F*cking *sshole] Killian growled through our mind link, not wanting to cuss in front of the kids.
[We both know he’s not himself, Killian.] I tried to calm his head before he could think of punching my husband in the face.
[Oh, he’s not? Let’s pray your husband won’t suddenly kill us all in here.] he snapped as he focused his eyes on both Devon and Diana while we all walked inside the mausoleum, our eyes wary of any kind of sound or movement inside.
“Be careful. We have no idea what’s in this place.” Killian warned us as he squared his shoulder, ready to face any enemies that would appear to welcome all of us.
