Chapter 318: Chapter 173 Shiayar: I Will Eventually Become a Dragon Knight_3
"The Calamity of Light..."
"That truly is a memory from an age long past."
Just as it had happened at the dawn of each Era.
The First Era too had its Glorious Era, a prosperous and peaceful golden age.
It was a utopia and paradise for advanced Races like the giant dragons, elves, and Giants.
The supreme Sun God resided above the clouds on His Throne of Heaven.
The Dragon Kingdom, the elven and Giant Royal Courts stretched across the mortal world.
Those were the years bathed in golden radiance.
And the giant dragon before me was not always this blackened form, but a giant gold dragon so revered even among the pureblood giant dragons.
Had the previous King of Dragons ascended further, becoming a true God Subordinate, constantly by the side of the Throne of Heaven, then there may have been a chance for the giant gold dragon to become the next Dragon King.
However, a peaceful Glorious Era can never become eternal; only turmoil and catastrophe are the main melody of this world. No one knows why the pure white Sun God fell from His Throne of Heaven, but it did happen.
And so, the sun that once brought warmth and order became the source of the forbidden Calamity.
"The Calamity of Light"
The opposite of the most dazzling light is the extreme Darkness.
And all those who basked in the sunlight were subjected to varying degrees of erosion and corruption.
The higher the rank, especially among those Races that had been granted Divinity and Authority by the Sun God, the stronger the erosion and corruption they suffered.
Thus, a catastrophe that engulfed the entire world descended.
"The first to lose control were the God Subordinates who had once served by the side of the Sun God."
"During the Glorious Era, nearly every Fabled Creature envied their position, constantly by the side of the Throne of Heaven, but when the great catastrophe struck, those who had stood the highest fell the hardest."
"And I, as a giant gold dragon once at the apex of the dragon Race... naturally suffered the most severe blow."
It turned, looking at the withered ruins behind it.
From the scattered rubble, one could faintly discern its once magnificent splendor.
"This place was once the Royal Court of the Dragons," the giant gold dragon spoke in a dry tone.
The higher you stand, the harder you fall.
The Races that once ruled this land, the giant dragons, elves, and Giants, were all shattered in the Calamity of Light. Most of them perished in the initial loss of control and madness, and only a very few suppressed the mad impulses and hid throughout the continent. Only these ruined remnants of their Royal Courts remained to record their former glory.
"Humans, on the other hand, being of lower rank and never having received the Sun God’s endowment—
"Were less affected by the great cataclysm, retaining their complete civilization and kingdom."
So that’s how it was—I was wondering why such Races as the giant dragons, elves, and Giants were so dominant. Once they reach adulthood, they start at least at 4th Order, and an adult pureblood giant dragon is directly at Legendary Rank. Moreover, these Races possess intelligence not inferior to that of Humans, along with lifespans far longer in comparison. If they had continued to develop normally, there likely would never have been a chance for the rise of Humans. In the Calamity of Light, the strong perished, and the weak survived—it’s quite reminiscent of the meteor that extinguished the dinosaurs and gave primates the opportunity to thrive.
Shiayar’s thoughts were fleeting.
The next moment, he heard the giant gold dragon speak again.
"You said you want to find the Lost Island where the advanced Elves reside, right?"
Its gaze was intense.
"I can tell you."
"But, I also have a request."
