Chapter 579: Chapter 286 I Will Punish You
"Me? I don’t speak out of anger, nor do I humor you," he said as he tapped on the tip of her nose.
Jane Quinlan pouted, "Why is that? Are you planning to give me the cold shoulder?
Kay Forrest, I really hate the silent treatment, it’s even more damaging to a relationship than arguing.
It’s just like how my brother would run away from home after a fight, ignoring his girlfriend for days, which is really despicable.
No wonder Xiao Hua got mad. If it were me, I’d be even angrier."
"Don’t compare me with your brother, he’s the silent type, while I’m openly flamboyant.
Due to different personalities, we handle things differently.
I won’t give you the silent treatment or charm you. Instead, I’ll throw you on the bed and punish you till you don’t have the strength to be upset—by then, you’ll be honest."
Hearing Kay Forrest say this, Jane Quinlan laughed speechlessly, thinking this kind of tactic could only come from a man with such unconventional thoughts.
He just had a way of instantly softening her heart.
She could foresee that if she were to spend the long future with him,
she would indeed be very happy.
Kay Forrest took off his coat and draped it over her, pulling her a little closer into his embrace.
"Let me tell you, silly girl, when it comes to love, you can’t just emulate others; everyone has their own way of expressing it.
Your brother isn’t bad, he avoids Xiao Hua because she is lively and eloquent, always insisting on a resolution.
But in love, there’s no such thing as a conclusion, so he avoids her to give both sides space to cool off.
He probably thinks that everything will be fine after calming down, but people are different and Xiao Hua just happened to take it the wrong way.
Both of them have good intentions and like each other, but their ways of handling things lead to different outcomes.
I think, a love that still yearns for each other even when arguing can truly be called love."
Jane Quinlan clasped her hands in front of him, "Oh Love Guru, I am truly impressed."
Kay Forrest pinched her cheek gently, "Okay then, you’ve learned to tease your husband."
"I wouldn’t dare."
"It seems you’re bold enough indeed. Come on, let’s go home for your punishment."
"Ah, I don’t want to go back," she said coquettishly pulling at his hand, "I just want to take a walk here."
"You’ll freeze to death, my dear." Kay Forrest turned and hugged her tightly for warmth.
"Here’s your jacket back."
"As a man, if I can’t even take care of my woman’s basic needs, what kind of man am I? Keep it on, let’s go home. Come spring, I’ll accompany you for a walk every day."
He firmly took her home. Jane Quinlan rolled her eyes; she had wanted to romance him a bit, but it really was too cold, and she was hungry as well.
As they entered the house and Jane Quinlan crouched to change shoes, she asked him, "Love Guru, are you hungry? I’m a bit hungry—I’ll go cook."
"I’m hungry too, famished enough to eat anything." As he spoke, he lifted Jane Quinlan, who was yet to change into slippers, and carried her swiftly into the bedroom.
"Hey," she tapped his shoulder, "Are you still up for it? You’re hungry and still have the energy to fool around, but I’m wiped out."
"Stop being so dramatic; you don’t even have to move. Let me show you, with my physical strength, whether I’m up for it or not."
Jane Quinlan was thrown onto the soft bed, and he leaned in to start kissing her.
After a bout of romping around, Jane Quinlan truly had no strength left to even stand up, let alone cook.
Both of them lay on the bed, and she tapped his arm, "Love Guru, I don’t have the strength to cook now, but I’m so hungry."
Kay Forrest turned over and picked up his phone, "No worries, I’ll order food and it will be here soon. Let’s just lie here and rest, which is quite nice."
Jane Quinlan flipped and rested her head on his chest, "I wonder how my brother and Xiao Hua are doing now."
"Don’t worry, they’re both adults with the ability to think independently.
If they’re to break up, your worrying is useless.
If they really have that fate together, then a little quarrel won’t tear them apart."
Kay Forrest said while sidling up to hug her, "Jane Quinlan, there’s half a month left until New Year’s, how do you plan to spend it this year?"
"How else would I spend it but to go home?"
"I don’t want you to go back. Would it be so bad to stay here with me?"
Jane Quinlan looked up at him, "No way, I’ve already told my parents."
"Then let me go back with you."
"What about old man Guo?"
"We never spent New Year’s together anyway, I didn’t come back during New Year’s in the past."
Kay Forrest said, resting his hands behind his head: "There are only two of us, my dad and me. It always feels like something is missing at home."
"But if you don’t go back, then old man Guo will be alone for New Year’s, wouldn’t he be even lonelier? Two people are better than one, and New Year’s is supposed to be bustling and lively, right?"
Kay Forrest looked at her, clearly displeased: "Then you negotiate with your uncle and aunt, and spend this year at my place for New Year’s."
Jane Quinlan nodded: "They say a daughter married off is like water spilled, once I get married, I won’t be able to return home for New Year’s.
While I’m still unmarried, I need to seize every opportunity to spend New Year’s with my parents."
"I’m not that feudal, after we get married, we’ll spend one year with one family. Nowadays, isn’t everyone an only child, spoiled and raised by their parents?
My dad worked hard to raise me, and your parents didn’t just have you with a gust of northwest wind. They are all parents, rest assured, I will treat them equally."
Hearing Kay Forrest say this, Jane Quinlan couldn’t help but smile. How many men nowadays don’t understand this simple logic.
In the old days, when every family had five or six children, it was customary for married-daughters not to return home for New Year’s.
But now, because of the one-child policy, many parents only have one daughter to rely on.
Even under these circumstances, some men still refuse to accompany their wives to her parents’ home for New Year’s after getting married.
But Kay Forrest is different, he would empathetically consider what she wants and what’s best for her.
Being with such a man, he seems like he would use his own arms to create a world for her, allowing her to live a carefree life ever after, really, she must be so fortunate in the eyes of the heavens.
Jane Quinlan pressed her lips together: "Really can’t this year, I don’t want to go back on what’s already been agreed.
You just be good and stay in Anchester with old man Guo, but I can promise you, I’ll try to come back as soon as possible."
Kay Forrest sighed softly: "Suddenly feeling a loss of appetite here."
"Don’t be like that," she scratched his ticklish spot, having lived together for so long, she knew exactly where he was ticklish.
Kay Forrest, tickled by her, flipped her over and pinned her down: "What’s this, you want to have an extra meal in advance?"
"Your Highness, the Love Guru, I admit my mistake, my mistake, please let me off."
But her plea seemed to come too late...
On Friday afternoon, Jane Quinlan received a notice that there would be a year-end celebration for the company on Sunday evening.
Everyone in the company must attend, no exceptions.
After hanging up the phone, she shook her head, no wonder since noon today, those women coming back from lunch seemed to have gone crazy.
They seemed to be discussing what to wear all the time, which style of clothing to buy during their evening shopping spree.
The saying that a woman’s wardrobe is always lacking one piece of clothing really is true.
She got up, knocked on the door, and entered Nolan Moore’s office: "Director Moore, I just received a notice, there is a year-end celebration at the group hotel on Sunday evening, all staff must attend in formal attire."
Nolan Moore nodded: "Hmm, I know, go ahead and get busy with your work."
Jane Quinlan bowed and walked out.
She had barely reached the door when Nolan Moore, as if suddenly remembering something, asked: "Jane Quinlan, do you have a date for Sunday evening?"
"Huh?" Jane Quinlan turned back to look at him, somewhat puzzled: "What about it?"
"Since your relationship with Kay Forrest has not been made public, he probably can’t accompany you to the banquet, do you want to be my date?"
Jane Quinlan looked at him and let out a wordless chuckle: "Director Moore, you don’t need to be so wary of me."
"Wary of you? You must be misunderstanding something.
I am just offering to keep you company because you don’t have a date," he said.
"No need," Jane Quinlan shook her head: "In my view, Director Moore’s date should be Miss Larkin."
Nolan Moore looked at her, wondering why she had so much to say today.
"I won’t let Evie be my date."
Oh, I see, Jane Quinlan thought to herself with a bit of disdain.
Because Evie Larkin has now been thrust into the spotlight, there were also rumors that it was because of him that Evie Larkin broke up with Kay Forrest.
So, he couldn’t let Evie Larkin be his date at this time, could he?
Thinking this through, Nolan Moore was also looking to use her, since she couldn’t accompany Kay Forrest, right?
"What do you say, Jane Quinlan, do you accept my invitation? Give me a straight answer."
