Chapter 586: Chapter 293: I Really Did Come to Seduce You
Because the news was announced so abruptly, Jane Quinlan hadn’t expected that just by taking Saturday and Sunday off, the whole atmosphere of the company would change.
The topic that had always been about Kay Forrest and Evie Larkin completely shifted to her.
Most of the male colleagues maintained a calm attitude.
But the female colleagues...
It seems that gossip is indispensable wherever there are women.
So by the end of the morning, Jane felt as though she had been through battle.
No matter where she went, overhearing the gossip behind her back made her somewhat irritable.
In the break room, someone said: "What’s so good about that Jane Quinlan to have charmed Director Forrest like that?"
"Yeah, the proposal yesterday was definitely the most romantic one I’ve ever seen in real life."
"I think I’m prettier than that Jane Quinlan, what makes her so special?"
"It must be because she’s great in bed, how else could she have seduced such a lord?"
Jane stood at the door, shaking her head, thinking that she could go without water, right?
Going to the restroom, there were still people discussing: "How did Jane Quinlan meet Director Forrest?"
"Right, those two are not from the same world. I’ve heard that Jane Quinlan’s family is poor, oh right, isn’t her dad a garbage picker?"
"Really?"
"That’s just what I heard."
Jane clenched her teeth, thinking they could talk about her all they wanted, but why drag her parents into it?
She stepped forward and knocked on the door: "Jane Quinlan’s dad is not a garbage picker, he’s a steelworker."
The women inside immediately fell silent.
Jane curled her lip: "I don’t mind you talking about me behind my back.
Just one thing, don’t hurt my family, okay?"
After saying that, she raised her eyebrows, turned around, and left. She decided not to use the bathroom—she could hold it.
Eventually, even going to the stairwell for a breath of fresh air, she could hear someone discussing her.
Therefore, she chose not to go anywhere and just sit quietly at her desk. If she needed to pee, she held it. If she felt depressed, she swallowed it. If she was thirsty, she endured.
At first she was angry, but after thinking about it, these people were talking about her this way just because of envy, right?
That’s right, definitely because of envy.
Because she, an ordinary and unremarkable woman, was lucky enough to become the most important woman in Kay Forrest’s life.
Let those women talk.
It makes sense for them to feel unbalanced in their hearts.
As long as they don’t cross the line, as long as they don’t touch the bottom line... Ring, ring, ring.
The intercom telephone on her desk rang, and Jane picked up: "Hello, this is the Advertising Department Assistant’s office."
"It’s me, come in for a moment."
Jane raised her eyebrows and stood up to push the door open: "Director Moore, you wanted to see me?"
Nolan Moore sized her up: "Are you okay?"
"What could be wrong with me?"
Nolan Moore couldn’t help but shake his head looking at her composed figure.
Jane frowned: "Director Moore, what are you laughing at?"
He laughed because he seemed to have overlooked the fact that people are different.
When Evie was criticized by others, it was as if her sky had fallen.
But Jane... She truly has a cockroach-like resilience.
No wonder Kay Forrest likes her.
Kay Forrest is not a man without taste; he always has his reasons for liking her.
"Does Director Moore have any instructions for me?"
"There have been many rumors about you in the company today.
If you feel uncomfortable listening to those rumors, you can go back and take a rest.
It’s the end of the year; the Advertising Department isn’t that busy."
Jane looked puzzled at him: "Huh?"
"Huh, what? I’m saying you can go home and rest."
Jane was still somewhat confused; this must be out of character for him.
"Director Moore, are you okay?"
Nolan Moore glanced at her: "What, is it hard for you to accept when someone is too nice to you?"
Jane couldn’t help but snort a laugh: "Director Moore, please don’t do this, I can’t help but laugh."
Nolan Moore frowned, looking at her. This woman really was...
"Director Moore, the work that belongs to me, I’ll make sure it’s done well.
What others want to talk about is their business.
They have freedom of speech.
I won’t let their words affect my work."
After speaking, she pursed her lips, bowed, and said: "If there’s nothing else, then I’ll go out first."
Watching her leave his office, Nolan Moore hooked the corner of his lips in appreciation.
Since it wasn’t too busy, as soon as noon struck and it was time to get off work, Jane Quinlan immediately left the 17th floor.
Her departure set the office abuzz, as her colleagues started to openly criticize her.
She first went downstairs to buy lunch and then came back up.
She didn’t go to the 17th floor but headed straight to the 22nd floor, to the office entrance of Kay Forrest.
Wendy was swamped with work.
When Wendy saw Jane coming, she immediately stood up with a cold face and asked, "What are you doing up here?"
Jane raised the lunch in her hand: "I’m here to make sure my boyfriend eats his lunch."
"Director Forrest is currently busy."
Jane said with a smile, "As for you all, he’s busy, but for me, no matter how busy, he always has time."
Wendy stepped forward to block Jane’s hand that was about to push the door and tried to lower her voice as much as possible.
"You need to make an appointment to see Director Forrest.
Your name isn’t in my appointment book."
Jane’s lips curled provocatively. She knew why Wendy didn’t dare to speak loudly; simply because she was afraid that Kay Forrest would hear.
So, Jane also lowered her voice: "It’s futile, Wendy.
Whether you are after Kay Forrest for himself or his wealth.
You can’t stop me.
By now, who in the entire company doesn’t know what I am to Kay Forrest?
Acting like this is as futile as a mantis trying to stop a chariot."
Wendy raised her eyebrows: "Say whatever you want, it’s work hours now, you must make an appointment to see Director Forrest."
Jane nodded and took out her phone: "Fine, those are the company’s rules, I won’t break them."
While looking for Kay’s number, she added in a comfortable tone, "You can stop me at noon, but you won’t be able to at night."
The call went through, and Jane looked at Wendy with a pitiful tone: "I’ll first eat lunch in your office."
"Come on over."
"Assistant Wendy said I should make an appointment first."
No sooner had Jane finished speaking than the office door opened in less than three seconds.
Seeing Wendy with her arms spread out blocking Jane, Kay Forrest said with displeasure, "Wendy, what are you doing?"
Wendy quickly stepped aside and moved away: "Director Forrest, I thought you were busy."
"Even if I am busy, do not stop Jane."
Grinding her teeth resentfully, Wendy said, "Yes."
She walked to the side as Kay Forrest looped his arm around Jane’s shoulder and entered the office.
Jane looked triumphantly at Wendy with raised brows.
She didn’t tell Kay Forrest about what Wendy had said to her the day before.
Not asking or telling was simply because she trusted him.
She was well aware of Wendy’s behavior. Working every day beside a man as outstanding as Kay Forrest, it was really hard not to fall for him.
If she told Kay Forrest what Wendy had said, and Wendy denied it, then in a fit of confusion at the company, they would accuse her of framing Wendy.
Then she herself would become the prejudiced girlfriend, who couldn’t bear to have female secretaries around her boyfriend.
When Wendy said those words to her, she did so intentionally without witnesses, didn’t she? She was afraid of people knowing.
So, Jane decided to go with the flow.
Kay Forrest had told her to trust him, so she would. Now all these women who were eyeing Kay Forrest were targeting her; she would have to be strong.
For every one who comes her way, she will stand firm. For every pair, she’ll fend them off.
Wendy turned her head away in resentment.
This woman clearly came to declare war.
After Jane entered the office, Kay Forrest closed the door and Jane shoved the lunch into his hands, immediately running towards the restroom.
"I’m dying here, I’m dying here."
Seeing her hurried state, Kay Forrest went to the restroom door, waiting for her with arms folded and a laugh, "Tell me, did you come here to have lunch with me, or to relieve yourself?"
After using the restroom, Jane came out looking much more relaxed.
"I came to use the restroom, and incidentally, to accompany you for lunch.
Weren’t you busy? I was worried you’d skip lunch."
As she spoke, she walked over to the coffee table to open the lunch box.
"How did you end up like this?" he looked at her and raised his hand to ruffle her hair.
"Today, no matter where I went, everyone was discussing me.
I figured I might as well not go anywhere and just endure it all morning.
Your office doesn’t have water, does it? I want some water, I haven’t had any all morning."
"I’ll have Wendy pour you some," he said, walking towards the desk to make an internal call.
"No need, no need, I’ll go out and pour it myself," she waved her hand dismissively, ready to go out, but then turned back at the door as if remembering something, and asked, "Don’t you think I was very brave today? Everyone’s talking about me, and I still came up here to have lunch with you."
"Indeed, it’s a bit beyond my expectations."
Jane beamed a radiant smile: "I thought about it, since everyone’s talking about me anyway, why not live up to what they say?
They say I’m seducing you, so I really just came up to seduce you.
After all, I’m your girlfriend. I will love you openly and legitimately, what’s the big deal?"
