Chapter 114: Song Kai’s Imagination

Chapter 114: Chapter 114: Song Kai’s Imagination

Yue Ning steadied her breathing before speaking. "I feel an imminent danger." She paused, her eyes narrowing strangely.

Huo Feng sat up straight, paying attention to her. "Go on."

"I just feel danger lurking around the corner." She said vaguely. She couldn’t let him know about the system. "Huo Mingjie... it’d be better if you kept an eye on him."

Huo Feng fixed his gaze on her intently, daring not to dismiss her instincts. He recalled the last time Huo Yan was kidnapped. She had acted the same way she did.

If she said danger was near and Huo Mingjie needed watching, then he would do exactly that.

"You don’t have to worry—I will tighten the security around Huo Mingjie. His every move will be reported." He promised.

Yue Ning sighed, her eyes darkening with unspoken worry. "Is there a way to have someone keep an eye on Song Kai? I don’t trust him one bit."

Huo Feng was silent for a moment. "I’ll see what I can do about it."

"Don’t burden yourself with these matters while I’m here. You only need to focus on your plans," Huo Feng said with a low voice.

Yue Ning forced a smile on her lips as she laid on the bed. How could she tell him that she couldn’t rest until the danger had been solved.

It wasn’t about system points anymore—it was about his safety. She had promised herself when she transmigrated that she wouldn’t let anything happen to him.

But now that danger was imminent, and she had no idea what it was about, there was a lingering fear in her heart.

Huo Feng sensed her anxiety and nervousness, so he pulled her into his arms, startling her in the process.

"What are you doing?" She asked with a muffled voice.

Huo Feng tightened his arms around her, "putting you to sleep. Since you aren’t able to sleep and you are worried, you should be able to fall asleep in my arms." He said without batting an eyelid.

Yue Ning was stunned by this logic. But she didn’t say anything. She moved around to find a comfortable spot. When she laid her head on his chest, she felt his heavy breathing and a smile appeared on her face.

She closed her eyes, and due to the stress from the day, she drifted to sleep instantly.

Song’s Residence>

While the relationship between Huo Feng and Yue Ning was improving, a bitter soul was in his study—Song Kai.

His dark gaze lingered on the scattered documents across his desk. He looked like he was seriously reviewing them, but if one looked closer, they could see he wasn’t focused on it.

"Darn it... this isn’t working." He cursed under his breath, and leaned back on the chair, letting out a deep breath.

"Why do I keep thinking about you?" He twirled a pen between his fingers, his chair creaking as he swiveled.

"Yue Ning," he whispered, writing her name on a blank sheet of paper.

"Moonlight Serenity," he murmured, his fingers tracing over the name like a forbidden secret.

He exhaled. "Why did you have to marry my rival? Why do I keep having thoughts about you?"

He yelled, scattering the papers to the floor.

He shot to his feet and strode to the window. "I should hate you. You are my rival’s wife... but I keep thinking about you? Why?"

He demanded, but silence was his only answer.

All of a sudden, he saw a smiling figure standing in front of him. "Song Kai." The figure called out, and he widened.

"Yue... Yue Ning?" He stammered.

"Hmm, it’s me." The figure replied.

Song Kai burst into laughter. "Why are you here?" He asked.

"Your thoughts brought me here," ’Yue Ning’ replied.

"My thoughts?" He asked, confusion evident in his eyes.

"Yes. Tell me, why do you keep thinking about me?" ’Yue Ning’ took a step forward, which caused Song Kai to take two steps backwards, stumbling in the process.

Song Kai shook his head, indicating that he had no answer. "I should be the one asking you why you keep appearing in my thoughts? I just met you yesterday, but you’ve invaded my thoughts several times."

’Yue Ning’ smiled, and took a seat. "It would be best if you find out about it yourself."

Song Kai’s brows furrowed, his gaze fixated on the girl who had taken a deep root in his memories.

"Can I touch you?" He asked, and ’Yue Ning’ nodded.

The instant he reached out, his hand passed right through her—then she vanished.

"Uhn?" His eyes reflected confusion as he looked around.

"Darn!" He cursed, ruffling his hair. "Did I just imagine her presence in my study? Darn it!"

He plopped himself onto the seat rubbing his forehead tirelessly. He never would have expected that he would imagine Yue Ning’s presence in his study.

"I must be going crazy. At this rate, I’ll forget my real goal... to destroy Huo Feng."

_____________

The next day, Huo Yan had no classes, and she decided to help Yue Ning with the invitations.

"Sister-in-law, the gathering is tomorrow, right?" Huo Yan asked while scribbling seriously on a piece of paper.

"Yes it is," Yue Ning replied, just as busy as Huo Yan.

"Alright," she replied, writing for a few seconds. She dropped her pen.

"I’m done, Sister-in-law," Huo Yan exclaimed excitedly.

Yue Ning inspected the paper, and she nodded. "Not bad. Did you study calligraphy growing up? Your strokes are sharp and precise." She praised.

Huo Yan rubbed her hair bashfully. "My dad made sure my brother and I learned calligraphy while growing up." She replied, nostalgia softening her expression at the memory of her father.

Yue Ning sensed the change in her mood. "I hope I haven’t touched a sore spot," she asked gently..

Huo Yan put away her nostalgic expression, and looked at Yue Ning. "Sister-in-law, my parents were the best." She sniffed.

"They took care of my brother and me. But... they got into an accident four days before my seventh birthday." Huo Yan wiped the tears which were about to fall from her eyes.

"Today... is their death anniversary," she whispered, startling Yue Ning."
