Chapter 137: Winter
The following day dawned as usual, but the temperature was unbearably low.
After waking up, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu donned full-body thermal suits, woollen outer clothes, a long coat, thick socks, gloves, a scarf, and a knitted cap.
Overall, they looked ready for the winter, but even then, they still felt a little cold.
"Chenxuan..." Qin Wu called in a hesitant voice.
Hearing the call, Mo Chenxuan raised an eyebrow but had a thoughtful expression.
"In our previous life..." Qin Wu started and quickly continued.
"Was the first day of winter this cold?" She asked.
"It wasn’t." Mo Chenxuan confirmed, his heart filled with trepidation.
He and Qin Wu had changed many things since their rebirth.
Unfortunately, they made plans, but the heavens didn’t conform.
Faced with a significantly colder winter, they suddenly felt at a loss.
"Let’s take a walk after breakfast." Mo Chenxuan suggested, and Qin Wu nodded.
Although they were cold and would rather stay indoors, this change made them a little anxious.
After all, the survivors weren’t fully prepared to deal with such cold weather and most importantly, their team had more than one thousand dependents.
Since they had recruited and accepted these people, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu would naturally not ignore them during this unpredictable time.
After deciding, the two put on another layer of clothes before going down for breakfast.
Breakfast was a solemn affair.
Although the meal was sumptuous, neither Mo Chenxuan nor Qin Wu was in the mood to appreciate it.
"Chenxuan, do you think the cold weather will affect the expansion plan?" Qin Wu suddenly asked.
"It’s hard to say." The man sighed.
On one hand, winter was the best time to carry out the expansion, and on the other, the temperature was too low, and survivors may not be able to easily move around.
"The days will only get colder. I am afraid survival will be a problem, let alone expansion." Qin Wu said, and Mo Chenxuan nodded.
After breakfast, the two left the villa, planning to walk around the base.
However, just after walking several metres, they heard a commotion.
"It’s the damned cold." Someone cursed.
"What should we do with the old man?"
"What can we do? Send him to the mass grave."
Hearing this, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu exchanged a glance.
A moment later, they walked to the security box and looked inside.
"What happened?" Qin Wu asked.
At that, three security guards turned to Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu.
"Young master Mo, young miss Qin." They greeted and respectfully bowed.
"What happened?" Qin Wu repeated.
"Old Liu couldn’t stand the cold. He died where he sat." One of the guards said, pointing to a corner.
When they turned, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu saw a middle-aged man sitting on a wooden chair.
Unfortunately, the man was dead and his lips had already turned blue.
Seeing this, Mo Chenxuan frowned, and Qin Wu sighed.
"Does he have a family?" Qin Wu asked, and one of the guards shook his head before speaking.
"Old Liu was a migrant worker. His family was not in city B when the apocalypse began." He said.
Hearing this, Qin Wu sighed again, but what could she do?
In the end, she shifted her gaze from old Liu and looked at the three security guards.
"Dispose the body properly and don’t forget to report the death." She said.
"We know." The guards nodded.
After giving each of them a level one purified crystal core, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu exited the villa area, heading towards zone B.
Normally, the base streets were crowded and filled with noise.
However, this time, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu barely encountered other survivors.
Most importantly, after half a night, the snow was already fifty centimetres deep, making it difficult for people to walk.
"Fortunately, it’s only snowing but not windy." Qin Wu observed.
"Mmh." Mo Chenxuan nodded, but his heart was heavy.
Fifty centimetres of snow within nine hours was not a good sign.
If nothing was done, people would be trapped in their houses after another day of snow.
"What’s on your mind?" Qin Wu asked, looking at Mo Chenxuan’s thoughtful expression.
"I am thinking of the most effective ways to deal with this snow." The man said.
In their previous life, dealing with snow involved a combination of salting, ploughing, heating, and several other methods.
This time would be no different!
However, Mo Chenxuan was worried because the weather was too cold and not many people would be willing to come out to deal with the snow.
Thinking of this, the man suddenly had an idea and stopped walking.
"What’s wrong?" Qin Wu asked.
"Let’s go to the mission hall."
Hearing this, Qin Wu raised an eyebrow but followed Mo Chenxuan to the mission hall.
The mission hall was deserted.
After all, few dared to issue or take missions in this weather.
However, Mo Chenxuan found what he was looking for.
"There is a mission to clear the snow." He said, pointing at the task board.
"You want to take it?’ Qin Wu asked.
"Mmh." Mo Chenxuan nodded and rubbed Qin Wu’s hair before continuing.
"But we won’t take it if you don’t want to."
"Why wouldn’t I want to?" Qin Wu chuckled and narrowed her eyes.
If everything went as planned, the base would commence the expansion plan on the third day of February.
During the expansion, the armies would not only have to deal with zombies, mutated plants, insects, and other dangers but also with snow.
Since the base had issued a snow-clearing task, it would be a waste not to take the opportunity to train their comprehensive team in preparation for the expansion mission.
"This mission couldn’t have come at a better time."
"I think so too." Mo Chenxuan nodded.
Thinking this way, the two read the task details and nodded.
A moment later, they walked to the task desk and promptly registered team Legends.
After that, they left the mission hall and walked to zone B, planning to visit team Flow and team Eve before going to zone D to visit the army.
