Chapter 775: There is no one.

Chapter 775: There is no one.

At Foster Ventures —

After sending Michael to Ryan, Zenith took a deep breath. Giving a second thought to everything, she no longer thinks that the presence of Michael would be that bad. Instead, it will make things easier and adjustable for her.

After all, he would, in a way, limit her close involvement with Ryan, and that would save her from overthinking certain things.

"Zenith, look at the brighter side. Don’t overlook your incapability," she chided herself, returning to take her seat behind her desk. Although she didn’t want to accept that it was her fault last night, she couldn’t ignore the fact that it was because of her that the company had to incur the losses.

Her phone rang in her bag, snapping her out of her thoughts, and she quickly reached for it to fish it out. When she took a look at the phone screen, she realized it was her mother’s call.

There wasn’t any difference between her and her parents, but they talked less due to her busy schedule. Usually, whenever her parents called, it was just to check on her and her brother. Otherwise, being understanding, they wouldn’t disturb her, especially during work hours.

But toady seems a different case. Her mother was calling right when she was at work, and that was rare. Frowning a little with worry, she didn’t ignore the call for long. Sliding the icon, she connected to answer.

"Mom?" she slowly spoke. "Is everything alright?"

"Oh, Zeni, sweetheart, did I disturb you at work?" her mother asked, her voice half-hesitant and half-excited.

When Zenith heard her like that, her brows quirked up a little before she responded, "No, you didn’t. I was about to start working, and I had a few minutes to spare."

"Good then, I called you just at the right time," her mother spoke again exuberantly. "Actually, I wouldn’t have called you so suddenly like this, but your aunt visited me just now, and she suggested something that I couldn’t bring myself to refuse."

Zenith didn’t say anything. She just gave her patience and waited for her mother to finish. But when the silence stretched, she asked, "What suggestion, Mom?"

Her mother seemed a little hesitant; however, she didn’t keep her waiting for long. "Your Aunt has suggested a man for you. She came asking if you would like to go and meet him once. If you two like each other, our families could meet and —"

"Mom!" Zenith cut in. "You know I don’t want to marry anyone right now. I still want to focus on my career. Please don’t force me."

"We aren’t forcing you, sweetheart. Nor am I saying that you have to meet and settle with this first person. I am just asking you to meet him once and see. Maybe you end up liking him."

"But Mom, why take the lane that I don’t want to walk on anytime soon?"

"Zeni, you are twenty-five already. I hope you understand why we are slowly getting serious about your future. You can’t delay this for long. But yes, we will understand if you have someone in your life. You can bring him to meet us and we ..."

"There is no one, Mom," Zenith quickly said, scared about the thing getting misinterpreted. More than that, she was scared that her heart would again misunderstand her emotions.

Her mother paused on the line as though she doubted her words. "If there is no one, then there is no harm in giving someone a chance. So —"

"Fine," Zenith agreed. "I will go and meet him if that’s what you want."

"Great then." Her mother cheered. "I will call your aunt and ask her to arrange the blind date for you."

Zenith hummed to her. And just as she did, from the corner of her eye, she saw Michael coming back. His face looked slightly paler.

Her brows furrowed when she saw him like that, and she quickly said to her mother, "Mom, I need to return to work. I will give you a call later."

"Yes, yes, go back. Remember to take care of yourself and Josh." And with that, her mother hung up the call, and Zenith stood up to ask Michael.

"What’s wrong? Did something happen?"

Michael glanced at her as though he had committed some mistake, and now he depended on her to help him. "Sir has asked you to his office. Maybe he was not satisfied with the project report."

Zenith frowned, shaking her head. "No, that’s not possible. He approved the previous copy of it. This one was prepared according the changes he needed."

"I don’t know, Secretary Zane, but he looked quite angry just now. I didn’t know how to calm him down."

Zenith’s gaze darted to look in the direction of Ryan’s office. "It’s fine. I will go and check on it." And then she stepped out of her desk and walked to Ryan’s office. All the while thinking what would have made Ryan so mad. The project file was long approved.

Stopping at the door, she carefully knocked at it before pushing it open to ask, "Sir, may I come in?"

Ryan was staring at the file when he heard her and glanced up her way. He didn’t say anything, but as usual, Zenith took his silence as the cue to enter. Stepping inside, she let the door close behind her before she walked to the desk.

Her gaze darted to look at the file Ryan was reading. "Sir, Michael said you needed some improvement in the project file. But this draft was prepared after you approved of the previous copy."

"And did Michael made me approve it?" Ryan asked, his tone laced with quiet fury that he was trying hard to restrain within.

Zenith didn’t understand. Her brows furrowed in confusion and she shook her head, "No, sir," she said, continuing, "It was me who did it. I had been following this project progress since the beginning."

"Then how did you send Michael with that file?"
