Chapter 642 The Lu Family's Catastrophe

Old Master Wei’s heart skipped a beat as he watched Lu Chengsen enter the room, but his composure returned shortly after, clinging to a sliver of hope.

Lu Chengsen couldn't possibly discover the secret room in his study; not even his own son knew about it.

“The Wei family would never betray the country. Let's go! Next house,” Wei Tao glanced at Old Master Wei and waved his hand, signaling his men to leave.

Hearing Wei Tao's words, Lu Chengsen let out a cold laugh. He meticulously surveyed the entire study, then walked to the bookshelf and tapped it.

“Ding ding ding!”

“Ding ding ding…”

Standing before the bookshelf, Lu Chengsen used a stick to tap the walls, each sound producing a solid thud.

Old Master Wei watched Lu Chengsen's actions, his heart constricting with anxiety.

“Dong dong dong!”

Suddenly, a distinctly different sound echoed, drawing everyone's attention to Lu Chengsen.

Lu Chengsen pointed at the bookshelf. “This part is hollow; there's something wrong here.”

Someone immediately stepped forward to try and move the bookshelf, but after struggling for a long time, they couldn't budge it.

“Can’t move it.”

“Find tools and dismantle it!” Lu Chengsen's eyes narrowed slightly as he glanced at the men.

One man ran off to fetch two iron hammers and was about to strike.

“Those are invaluable treasures on my bookshelf!” Old Master Wei gritted out.

“Move everything off the shelf, lest he covet your treasures,” Lu Chengsen sneered, casting a glance at Old Master Wei.

The men moved everything from the bookshelf. As they reached the end, only a single bottle remained immovable.

“This bottle is the problem; it won't come off,” someone pointed at the bottle.

Old Master Wei wished he could hit himself for speaking earlier.

Lu Chengsen walked to the small bottle and tried to pry it loose, but it seemed futile. He tried again.

Suddenly, with a click, as if something had been triggered, everyone instinctively stepped back. Before their eyes, the secret door behind the bookshelf slowly opened.

“Heavens! So many treasures inside!” someone ventured in first and exclaimed upon seeing the dazzling array of valuables.

Lu Chengsen turned to look at the pale-faced Old Master Wei. “Can’t possibly be a traitor? That's quite a laughable statement!”

Wei Tao stared at his father, disbelief etched on his face that there was a secret room in the study he’d never known about in all his years in the Wei family.

“There’s a safe inside; it needs a key!” someone inside the secret room found Old Master Wei's safe. Old Master Wei's heart lurched, and he immediately yanked the key from his neck and flung it out the window.

Without a word, Lu Chengsen leaped out the window, following the trajectory of the key.

Everyone was stunned by the sudden turn of events, but Old Master Wei's action indeed confirmed his complicity.

Two men restrained Old Master Wei, while another went to check on Lu Chengsen outside the window. They then caught Lu Chengsen by the balcony, dangling him in mid-air.

In one hand, he held the key Old Master Wei had thrown.

Lu Chengsen used the momentum to leap onto the balcony, the key in hand, and entered the secret room in Old Master Wei's study.

“The key is incorrect; one side is missing.”

“Here! There’s another one here!” someone rummaged and found another key.

Lu Chengsen combined the two keys and opened the safe.

Documents were neatly placed inside the safe. Someone picked one up at random, and their expression changed.

“He’s a traitor!!”

“These are all the evidence of his treason! Arrest him!!”

Lu Chengsen watched as everyone surged forward, seeing the documents, and recognizing Old Master Wei's personal signatures on them, he stormed out in anger.

Lu Chengsen and his men ransacked the Wei residence, uncovering more and more evidence. Old Master Wei and Wei Tao were both taken into custody.

With the evidence found right before their eyes, they had nothing left to deny.

Soon, Old Master Wei and Wei Tao, along with their illicit gains and documents, were brought before him.

Old Master Lu and Lu Jingyao were released. Old Master Lu was invited to participate in the interrogation of the Wei family.

Lu Chengsen, his mission accomplished, didn't concern himself with the aftermath and helped Lu Jingyao return home first.

“You’ve worked hard,” Lu Jingyao, having learned everything from Old Master Lu, knew it was Fu Wenwen and Lu Chengsen who had saved the Lu family.

If it hadn’t been for Fu Wenwen’s intervention, their Lu family would have been finished this time.

“Dad, there’s one more thing,” Lu Chengsen mentioned Aunt Wang’s matter on the way home.

Lu Jingyao’s eyes darkened upon hearing of Aunt Wang's betrayal of the Lu family and that she had personally placed evidence in Old Master Lu's drawer.

“After all, she has served us for three generations. Let her go,” Lu Jingyao said no more, knowing Old Master Lu would also let her off.

“Mhm.” Lu Chengsen said nothing.

The car pulled up to the Lu family entrance, but Lu Jingyao didn’t get out.

He didn’t want to see Aunt Wang, nor did he have the inclination to hear any of her explanations.

“Chengsen, go in and tell Aunt Wang, and then we’ll go pick up your mother!” Lu Jingyao said slowly.

“Alright.”

Lu Chengsen gave Lu Jingyao a look and walked into the Lu house.

Aunt Wang's face stiffened upon seeing Lu Chengsen return, but she still came out from the house to greet him.

“Aunt Wang, you should leave!” Lu Chengsen stated directly.

“Second Young Master?” Aunt Wang looked at Lu Chengsen, confused, thinking he wanted to seize the Lu family fortune while Old Master Lu was away.

“I was invited back by the Old Master. Only when the Old Master tells me to leave will I go.”

“Didn't you open the door for the Wei family? Didn't you put the documents in Grandpa's cabinet?” Lu Chengsen's cold eyes swept over Aunt Wang.

“How could you possibly think you could stay in the Lu family after doing such things?”

Aunt Wang froze.

There was no one at home at the time; how could Lu Chengsen know…

“If you don’t want anyone to know, you shouldn’t do it,” Lu Chengsen said indifferently.

“I originally intended to send you to the police station, but my father said you’d served the Lu family for three generations, so he asked you to leave the Lu family and never appear before us again.”

“I… they took my grandson… I had no choice,” Aunt Wang's eyes welled up, and she choked back a sob.

“By letting go of that document, didn't you know it would harm the Lu family?” Lu Chengsen asked coldly, his gaze towards Aunt Wang sharp.

Aunt Wang stiffened in fear. “They said… it was just a document, it wouldn't harm the Lu family.”

“That document was evidence framing Grandpa for treason,” Lu Chengsen said icily.

This directly shattered Aunt Wang's last hope.

Aunt Wang's expression changed drastically; she finally realized what she had done.

Lu Chengsen was not Lu Jingyao; he had no affection for Aunt Wang.

“Pack your things and leave Fengcheng!” Lu Chengsen commanded coldly.

Aunt Wang gave Lu Chengsen a tearful glance, then went back to her room, packed her belongings simply, and came out with her bags.

“I'm sorry to Old Master Lu, I'm sorry to the Lu family…” Aunt Wang kowtowed to Lu Chengsen in apology, then picked up her bags and left the Lu family in a daze.
