Chapter 222 Danger in the Back Mountain

Accustomed to smooth sailing, Zhu Xi now felt the whole world was an obstacle preventing her from being with the man she loved. She tried every way to get close to Liu Zihua. If it weren't for the village chief's refusal, Zhu Xi would have already gone to care for him.

Thinking back now, wasn't the original host in the same predicament!

"Since you've said so, I'll definitely listen to you!" the village chief said with a slight smile. "Don't cook at home this afternoon. Bring Lin Feng and Lin An over, and we'll have a meal together."

"Village chief, I'm a bit embarrassed..." Fu Wenwen paused, wanting to decline. But the village chief glared, and Fu Wenwen obediently closed her mouth.

"There's no need to be embarrassed! Lin Feng has already told me that after you've settled your affairs, he'll be taking up his post, and you'll be moving to the city, won't you?" The village chief looked at Fu Wenwen. He was truly reluctant to see her go.

Such a capable and thoughtful young woman. If she had stayed in the village, he would have groomed her to be the village chief and let her take over in the future.

But then again, he felt he would be letting Fu Wenwen down.

"Yes," Fu Wenwen replied with a smile. "He's been assigned to the transportation team."

"Just say you're ordinary drivers to outsiders, understand?" the village chief instructed. He knew Lin Feng's true identity, but the villagers didn't. It was better not to publicize such matters. The fewer people who knew, the better.

It wasn't that he thought too ill of people, but human nature was indeed like that. Apart from family, no one would truly be happy for your improved life.

Fu Wenwen's heart softened, looking at the village chief like an old father, filled with paternal concern and advice.

Fu Wenwen chuckled and nodded. "I understand."

"Alright, then you go!" the village chief waved his hand. "Take Lin Feng with you when you go to the back mountain. It wouldn't be good if there were any wild boars."

"Village chief, if there are wild boars, let Lin Feng catch one for everyone to have as a treat!" Fu Wenwen laughed.

"Hahahaha, alright!" The village chief said happily, though he inwardly dismissed it as a joke.

When Fu Wenwen and Lin Feng went to the back mountain with baskets to pick loquats, Lin Feng walked even faster than Fu Wenwen. Fu Wenwen remembered the way, but she wasn't as familiar with it as Lin Feng. Lin Feng led her directly to the loquat tree.

"How familiar are you with this place?" Fu Wenwen chuckled.

"I relied on it to survive when I was a child. If I was hungry, I'd come up here to find it." Lin Feng patted the loquat tree. It was an old friend.

"There weren't any saplings here last time. Now there are actually saplings?" Lin Feng looked around and was surprised to find several small saplings next to the loquat tree.

Fu Wenwen smiled lightly. It was her doing.

She had used her abilities to nourish the loquat seeds. The fact that they had grown this much in such a short time was also because she had left a trace of her powers with them every time she visited.

Lin Feng and Fu Wenwen began to work, moving to another mature loquat tree. As they were both intently picking the ripe loquats from the tree, a crisp sound made both Lin Feng and Fu Wenwen turn their heads to the direction of the sound.

"Lin Feng, get away! There's a wild boar behind you!" Fu Wenwen shouted to Lin Feng, spotting a large wild boar with tusks right behind him.

Lin Feng immediately rushed towards Fu Wenwen, pulling her towards a large tree nearby. The wild boar had also just discovered them, enraged that strangers were in its territory, and began to paw the ground.

"This is a You Shan Drum! Judging by its size, it should weigh around four hundred jin!" Lin Feng frowned, leading Fu Wenwen to the nearby tree. He climbed up first, then pulled Fu Wenwen up.

Seeing Lin Feng about to jump down, Fu Wenwen quickly grabbed him. "What are you doing, are you crazy! How can you deal with it with your bare hands?"

"I know where there's a trap nearby. I'll lure it there. You stay here and don't move!" Lin Feng leaped down. The wild boar grunted angrily and charged at Lin Feng.

Lin Feng nimbly dodged the attack, using a branch to twist his body and kick the wild boar.

The wild boar, with its muscular build, sharp tusks, and bristles standing straight like steel needles, charged at Lin Feng with a fierce, unrelenting momentum.

Lin Feng's attack only made the wild boar tremble slightly. Angered by Lin Feng's attack, the wild boar roared and charged at Lin Feng again.

Lin Feng quickly ran towards the location of the trap. He glanced back at Fu Wenwen, knowing she was safe, and then focused on luring the wild boar.

Fu Wenwen watched the direction Lin Feng was heading, frowning. She remembered there was indeed an old trap there, but after so many years, such a mechanism was likely defunct or rusty and useless.

Fu Wenwen activated her abilities and located the dilapidated trap. As she had expected, the trap was severely aged, and it was impossible to kill the wild boar with it.

Lin Feng was nearing the trap. Fu Wenwen spotted a bamboo grove not far away and had a flash of inspiration. In the trap, a small bamboo shoot broke through the soil, growing into a ten-centimeter sharp pillar in the blink of an eye.

Then, she loosened the soil covering the trap. Fu Wenwen "saw" the wild boar repeatedly charging at Lin Feng, who was dodging and running, finally reaching the trap and leaping.

The wild boar roared furiously. Seeing Lin Feng standing still, its tusks bared, it charged at Lin Feng with full force.

Lin Feng stood at the edge of the trap, ready to sidestep and lie flat if the trap failed.

The moment the wild boar stepped onto the trap, Fu Wenwen's abilities detected it again. She retracted the power covering the trap, and the wild boar instantly lost its balance, falling into the trap. Sharp bamboo shoots pierced its neck and abdomen. The wild boar let out a scream and struggled, but the more it struggled, the more blood flowed.

Lin Feng hadn't expected such sharp bamboo shoots in the trap. The wild boar's immense weight hadn't crushed the shoots; instead, they had pierced it.

These bamboo shoots had grown right inside the trap. Lin Feng found it magical, a natural trap.

Seeing that Lin Feng was safe, Fu Wenwen finally withdrew her abilities, remaining as an unsung hero.

Fu Wenwen leaped down and returned to the loquat tree to continue picking the fruit.

When Lin Feng returned and didn't see Fu Wenwen in the tree, he was startled and was about to shout. But then he saw Fu Wenwen picking loquats from the tree.

Lin Feng was momentarily at a loss for words. He went to the loquat tree, and Fu Wenwen saw him.

"Are you alright?"

"How could you come down alone? What if there are other wild boars?"

Lin Feng felt both scared and a little angry. How could she be so bold? After encountering a wild boar, she was still in the mood to pick loquats?

Fu Wenwen blinked, waiting for Lin Feng to finish scolding. Then, she giggled. "Isn't there you? I trust you! How is that wild boar?"

Lin Feng choked, and helplessly glared at the smiling Fu Wenwen, a sigh stuck in his chest.
