"But with Zhu Xi's affection for Liu Zihua, Liu Zihua would have had a chance to succeed if given the opportunity," Fu Wenwen felt it was necessary to say this, believing Liu Zihua wouldn't give up so easily.
"Did you tell the village chief?" Lin Feng's brows relaxed; it was good that he hadn't succeeded.
"I did! The village chief locked Zhu Xi up at home!" Fu Wenwen shrugged. "But what if Zhu Xi sneaks out while they're asleep? Who can keep an eye on her every day?"
"..." Lin Feng looked at Fu Wenwen. Seeing his gaze, Fu Wenwen glared. "What are you looking at me for? I've never done that!"
"Mmm! I believe you." Lin Feng's words only made Fu Wenwen angrier.
"I feel insulted! Do you look down on me?" Fu Wenwen said angrily.
"I never meant that." Lin Feng paused, looking at Fu Wenwen in confusion. He wasn't doubting her? Why did she suddenly get angry? "Then why did you pause just now? What did your look mean?" Fu Wenwen felt Lin Feng was clearly implying something! "Do you think I used to sneak out to see Liu Zihua like this?"
"...I didn't say that," Lin Feng said helplessly.
"You did! Your look just now meant that!" Fu Wenwen narrowed her eyes dangerously, and Lin Feng froze. He finally understood what it meant to be a scholar trying to reason with a soldier – no matter how logical you are, you can't get through.
"Hmph! Zhu Xi and I are different! Even if I liked Liu Zihua very much, I wouldn't do such a thing!" Fu Wenwen glared. At least, according to the original body's memories, she had never done such a thing! As for her, she would be even less likely to do it!
"I believe you." Lin Feng had learned his lesson this time. Without any pause, he said it directly.
"You said it so quickly, don't you believe me!" Fu Wenwen frowned, staring at Lin Feng.
Lin Feng immediately shook his head and said sincerely, "How could I not? You're so smart, you definitely wouldn't do such a thing! Besides, I think your mother must be a very sensible person. Her daughter couldn't possibly do something like this!" Lin Feng was practically offering his heart to prove he wasn't lying.
Fu Wenwen looked at Lin Feng with satisfaction and nodded. "You have good taste! Not bad!"
"Naturally!" Lin Feng felt enlightened and self-taught. "I've never doubted this!" Lin Feng said meaningfully, implying praise for Fu Wenwen.
Fu Wenwen snorted softly and happily went to the kitchen. "Since you're so good with your words, tell me what you want to eat today, and I'll cook something delicious for you."
"Anything you make tastes delicious to me," Lin Feng said, as if divinely inspired.
Watching Fu Wenwen humming happily, Lin Feng felt he had solved the first historical riddle of his life: how to make a woman happy!
After Fu Wenwen finished cooking, she called out to the yard, "Lin Feng, go call your son back, it's time to eat!"
"Okay." Lin Feng, who was sweeping the yard, put down the broom and walked out the door. A moment later, he returned to the kitchen and asked Fu Wenwen, "Where should I find him?"
Fu Wenwen paused and chuckled. "You grew up in the village, don't you know how people in the village call their kids home for meals?"
"Oh. I understand." Lin Feng walked out again, stood at the intersection, and shouted towards the village, "Lin Feng! Come home for dinner!!"
In a corner of the village, Lin An said to Hu Zi and the others, "My dad is calling me home for dinner." He pointed to the tank in their hands and looked at them.
"Alright..." Hu Zi and the others reluctantly returned the tank to Lin An. "Lin An, you're so nice. Your dad even makes tanks for you, he's amazing!"
"Lin An, can we borrow it to play with again tomorrow?"
"Lin An, I envy you so much. Your mom is beautiful and cooks well, and your dad even brings you toy tanks..." The little friends looked envious.
Lin An grinned. "I'll lend it to you again tomorrow!" Lin An said with a smile to Hu Zi and the others, then ran home with the tank.
"Dad! I'm here!" Lin An shouted as he ran.
Lin Feng, standing at the intersection, heard Lin An's response. He waited for a moment and then saw Lin An rushing over. Seeing Lin Feng waiting for him, his eyes lit up, and he happily rushed into Lin Feng's arms. "Dad! You're waiting for me here?"
"Mmm." Lin Feng chuckled, picked up Lin An, and walked home.
"Hee hee." Lin An hugged Lin Feng tightly, holding his precious tank, a happy expression on his face.
After the family had a delightful meal, Fu Wenwen handed Lin An over to Lin Feng, asking him to bathe their son, while she went to attend a class.
Lin Feng held Lin An and watched Fu Wenwen's retreating back. "Let's go, I'll give you a bath."
"Dad, go to the kitchen and get some hot water first, then..." Lin An nodded and instructed Lin Feng, helping him mix warm water and telling him how to bathe him. By the time Lin Feng finished bathing Lin An, his clothes were soaked.
"Dad, you should take a bath too!" Lin An giggled when he saw Lin Feng covered in sweat.
Lin Feng placed Lin An on the bed and then turned to go to the yard, using cold water to wash himself. As soon as Lin An lay down, he saw Lin Feng come in, already dressed.
"...Dad, are you done bathing?" Lin An asked, his eyes wide.
"Of course." Lin Feng glanced at Lin An, showing him his wet hair from rinsing.
"...Dad, are you sure you washed clean?" Lin An looked at Lin Feng suspiciously, thinking Lin Feng hadn't really washed properly.
"..." Lin Feng sighed heavily. "We're men, we can't take as long to bathe as women."
"Mom said that bathing means cleaning your body, and it's the same for men and women," Lin An said seriously, frowning.
"...Alright, I'll take longer next time," Lin Feng replied helplessly. Has his son lost his status in his heart after spending so much time with Fu Wenwen?
"You have to wash thoroughly! Don't be perfunctory!" Lin An reiterated sternly.
"Yes, sir!" Lin Feng stood up straight and replied with a serious expression.
"Sigh... he's such a worry. He's so old and still doesn't know how to bathe!" Lin An sighed heavily after lying down, leaving Lin Feng bewildered. A breath caught in his chest, unable to go up or down.
"Dad knows how to bathe! Dad is used to it from the army, that's how we bathe!" Lin Feng explained helplessly and earnestly.
"I know, Dad. I won't say that again next time! Mom said we shouldn't say it so directly, it will make you sad." Lin An, seeing Lin Feng so eager to explain, felt his words had hurt Lin Feng. He kissed Lin Feng and patted him comfortingly, speaking in a soothing tone.
"..." Lin Feng roared internally.
