Chapter 240 A New Home, A New Atmosphere

After packing the eggs into a container in the kitchen, Fu Wenwen used her ability to make two small pills. These pills contained her wood-elemental ability, which might help the old man.

Fu Wenwen wrapped the pills in a piece of paper, then walked out with Grandma Zhang’s bamboo basket. She returned the basket to Grandma Zhang and handed her the pills.

"Grandma, this is a pill that is very effective for colds. Why don't you take it back and try it on him?" Fu Wenwen said to Grandma Zhang.

"Thank you, girl." Grandma Zhang looked at the pills in Fu Wenwen’s hand and thanked her.

Fu Wenwen knew she was a bit distrustful, but she didn’t offer any further explanation. It was simply about doing what she could when she had the ability. After seeing Grandma Zhang off, Lin An, who had been feeling down earlier, hugged Fu Wenwen’s leg, his eyes shining with a golden light.

"Mom, you're so amazing." Lin An looked at Fu Wenwen with admiration. Fu Wenwen froze for a moment. The situation had been urgent, and she had acted directly in front of Lin An.

Fu Wenwen squatted down and looked at Lin An. "Ahem, darling, Mom is telling you, this is Mom's secret. Only Mom and An An know."

"Really?" Lin An asked happily, looking at Fu Wenwen. "Mom, can you teach me? I want to be this amazing too."

Fu Wenwen chuckled and ruffled Lin An’s hair. "Then let your dad teach you. And I'll let you in on a secret, your dad is also very amazing."

"Is Dad as amazing as Mom?" Lin An asked excitedly.

Fu Wenwen nodded. "But don't tell Dad that Mom is also this amazing. Mom likes Dad to protect her, so Mom can't be this amazing in front of Dad."

Lin An seemed to understand and not understand, but he remembered Fu Wenwen's words and nodded. "I won't tell Dad."

"You're truly Mom's little man, so dependable." Fu Wenwen said with a smile, ruffling Lin An's head.

Fu Wenwen went to the kitchen. It was more of a small room with two cabinets rather than a typical village kitchen with a wood-burning stove. In a corner, Fu Wenwen found a stove with a pile of honeycomb briquettes next to it. Recalling the original owner's mother's way of cooking, Fu Wenwen lit a briquette and placed it at the bottom. After it had burned sufficiently, she added two more briquettes, and the fire slowly spread and grew larger.

Watching Fu Wenwen start the fire, Lin An finally felt at ease and began to explore the house. Forgetting his sadness, Lin An was very interested in the two-story house, as there were no such houses in the village.

Fu Wenwen placed a wok on the stove and tried stir-frying an egg. As she gradually became familiar with the usage, she formed a plan in her mind.

She took out all the seasonings, pots, bowls, and ladles and put them into the cabinets. The kitchen cabinets were soon full. After finishing with the kitchen, she moved to the bedroom. She opened the box containing her and Lin An's clothes and put them all into the cabinets one by one.

Looking at Lin Feng's clothes, Fu Wenwen took his luggage to the small room on the second floor. She saw the small bed that could only accommodate one person sleeping. Fu Wenwen took new bedding from her space and made the bed for him, then opened his luggage, preparing to put his clothes in the cabinet.

However, after taking out all of Lin Feng's clothes, Fu Wenwen noticed that apart from his military uniform, which was of better quality, all his other clothes were tattered and full of patches. Looking at these clothes, which seemed to be Lin Feng's childhood clothes, Fu Wenwen realized that even though they were so worn, Lin Feng was reluctant to throw them away.

From these clothes, it was not difficult to judge the kind of life Lin Feng had lived as a child, and these stitches and repairs were clearly from different people.

Recalling what Lin Feng had said to the villagers when he was about to leave, Fu Wenwen suddenly understood his words. These clothes were proof of the people in the village who had cared for him and helped him.

In an era when even she herself didn't have enough to eat, Lin Feng's survival and growth were clearly not solely due to the Lin family. More importantly, it was these kind-hearted people who secretly helped Lin Feng.

The small portion of food they saved, for them, meant eating a little less, but their small portion of food could allow Lin Feng to survive.

Fu Wenwen hadn't felt much before, but seeing these clothes again now made her heart ache. He had suffered so much, yet he had never spoken of it.

This reminded Fu Wenwen of herself in the apocalypse. Before she awakened her abilities, she had carefully hidden herself, making herself dirty and smelly just to protect herself. Unlike other women, she couldn't exchange her body for food. She could only rely on that meager ration and often went hungry.

Once, a woman had taken pity on her and shared some of her food. But before she could become strong enough to repay her kindness, the woman had already died by the zombies.

She could understand Lin Feng. It was like a ray of light in the abyss, giving them a glimmer of hope for survival.

Fu Wenwen carefully put all these clothes into one of the drawers. She took out Lin Feng's military uniform. She noticed that some of his other clothes were also quite worn, likely damaged during training, and there were clumsy stitching marks on them.

Fu Wenwen took out a sewing kit from her space and mended all of Lin Feng's damaged clothes before putting them back into the wardrobe.

After tidying everything up, Fu Wenwen went downstairs. As soon as she got downstairs, she saw people moving about. Fu Wenwen tensed up and immediately ran out.

She saw several people dressed as workers moving things inside. Fu Wenwen stopped. "What are you doing?"

"Hello, comrade. We are from the local products store. My surname is He, He Yi. Comrade Lin Feng entrusted us to deliver furniture to your home. We knocked on the door earlier but received no response, so we had to come in and place the items in the yard. Where should these things be placed?" He Yi said to Fu Wenwen, stepping forward enthusiastically to explain.

Hearing that Lin Feng had bought them, Fu Wenwen quickly smiled. "Comrade He, I'm really sorry to trouble you. Please help me move them into the house. Can I see what he bought?"

"Of course, you can. Here is the list, please take a look." He Yi presented the list to Fu Wenwen. Fu Wenwen saw that it listed two sets of cabinets and a set of table and chairs.

"Okay, please place the table in the middle of the living room, and these two sets of cabinets in the bedroom." Fu Wenwen directed them immediately. Then, she went to the kitchen to pour a cup of water for each of the four men who were moving furniture, adding some sugar.

After strenuous labor, a little sugar water was best.

After the four men had moved everything, they were about to bid farewell to Fu Wenwen. Fu Wenwen came out with water. "Four masters, you've worked hard. Please have a drink of water!"

The four men were deeply grateful to see that Fu Wenwen had prepared water for them. No one had ever brought them anything before. They quickly accepted it. "Thank you, comrade. We were indeed thirsty."
