"Exactly, it was just a misunderstanding."
Director Liu's smile was peaceful. "Brother Lin Fan, you can build your house however you like. If you need anything, just come to me in town. I'll definitely help you sort it out."
He still had his arm around Lin Fan's shoulder and continued, "That, you can explain to Section Chief Wang. It was just a misunderstanding, no need for such a big fuss."
Lin Fan nodded. "Alright, I'll tell Sister Wang Ying about it later."
Director Liu was very pleased. "That's the spirit."
He chatted a few more pleasantries before leaving with the sullen Cao Yun.
"Xiao Fan."
Aunt Li called out.
She had been watching from her own yard and ran over to ask, "Why did it seem like that leader was afraid of you? And Cao Zhishu's younger son, did he just bow his head and concede to you?"
Lin Fan shook his head. "No."
He was very excited inside.
What seemed like a very difficult matter to him was resolved with just one phone call from Wang Ying, without her even showing her face.
"Nonsense."
Aunt Li tutted in amazement. "Xiao Fan, you've really become capable."
She gave him a thumbs-up and then looked at Xia Xue, saying, "Xiao Xue, with Xiao Fan around, you won't have to be afraid of being bullied anymore."
Xia Xue was still a bit dazed.
She felt like she was dreaming; everything was so unreal.
"Xiao Fan, tell me the truth, what exactly happened?"
"And, who is that Sister Wang Ying?"
Xia Xue asked two questions in quick succession, her tone not entirely friendly.
"Sister-in-law."
Lin Fan scratched his head. After a moment of thought, he replied, "When I went to town to buy supplies and came back late, it was because I was treating someone.
"They've always been grateful for my kindness. Who knew she seemed to be quite influential.
"So, I asked her if she had any way to help, and that's how it turned out."
Xia Xue breathed a sigh of relief. "Then we must thank her properly."
"Xiao Fan, her status must not be ordinary. Don't forget to thank her later."
"Got it." Lin Fan handed the documents to Xia Xue. "Sister-in-law, take this. Now the procedures are complete, and no one will bother us."
Xia Xue nodded gently. "Okay, let's get building then."
She felt an immediate sense of relief, and a bright smile appeared on her face.
After Aunt Li left, Xia Xue suddenly thought of something and quietly said to Lin Fan, "Xiao Fan, Cao Zhishu's son was forced to apologize to you today. Do you think he and his father will target us in the future?"
"Sister-in-law, you're always worrying about this and that."
Lin Fan said dismissively, "If he dares to mess with our family, I'll make sure he and his father have a bad time."
He picked up the small cart. "Sister-in-law, don't worry, we'll continue moving."
With that, he got back to work.
Soon, the sun began to set.
Most of the things that needed to be moved were done.
"Xiao Fan, stop busy yourself. Come quickly."
Xia Xue called out to Lin Fan. "It's inconvenient to cook at our place now. Yueyue, our sister, invited us over for dinner."
"Alright."
Lin Fan wiped the sweat from his forehead and responded.
He placed the water urn on top of the small cart and secured it with several loops of rope. "Sister-in-law, let's go."
With that, he pushed the cart and walked outside.
Xia Xue went back inside to get a few things, then locked the door and followed him.
"Xiao Fan, you didn't tie it securely. The rope is too loose."
Xia Xue saw the water urn wobble and quickly reached out to steady it.
Lin Fan slowed his pace and said, "Sister-in-law, the water urn is fine. You be careful, don't scrape your leg."
"I'll just hold it."
Xia Xue tilted her body as much as possible, carefully holding onto the rim of the water urn.
"Sister-in-law, why don't you get on the cart? I'll push you."
Lin Fan was worried about hurting his sister-in-law's leg and dared not walk too fast.
"Don't be silly, I'm not a child."
Xia Xue laughed and scolded him.
"Sister-in-law, if we dawdle like this, when will we ever get there?"
"Sister Yueyue is waiting at home."
Lin Fan gestured with his chin, urging her on. "Hurry up, sister-in-law. It's almost dark, and no one will see."
"Then..."
Xia Xue looked up at the setting sun. Seeing that more than half of the sun had already dipped below the horizon, she reluctantly agreed. "Alright."
Lin Fan stopped and said with a smile, "Get on, sister-in-law."
"You, you're just too playful."
Xia Xue chided him playfully, then carefully stepped onto the cart.
Lin Fan was stunned.
He hadn't expected his sister-in-law to be standing on the small cart, her back directly facing him.
"Okay Xiao Fan, walk slowly. Don't let me fall."
Xia Xue bent over slightly, unconsciously drawing closer to Lin Fan.
"Don't worry, sister-in-law."
Even with a person on the cart, Lin Fan didn't find it too difficult to push.
His only difficulty now was that his eyes simply couldn't move away.
Just then, two beams of headlights shone from behind.
Beep beep beep!
The ear-piercing honks made everyone feel agitated.
Lin Fan looked back and saw a black car. Cao Yun was driving, and Ge Lili was leaning out of the window, looking at him.
Cao Yun's expression was blank.
Ge Lili, on the other hand, looked disdainful.
She slowed down the car and said something to Cao Yun.
As they spoke, their posture became increasingly arrogant.
After a while, they slowly drove away.
Lin Fan knew without even thinking that his sister-in-law must be feeling terrible.
As for himself, he was furious.
"Sister-in-law, after we finish building the house, we'll buy a car."
"What are we buying a useless thing like that for?"
Xia Xue's tone was calm. "You'll be running a clinic in the village, and I don't go out much. Buying a car means more management. Don't think nonsense."
Lin Fan chuckled. "We'll buy it even if it's useless."
"If we want to live a good life, we have to live better than others."
"So, whatever others have, we must have too."
Xia Xue glared at him. "I said we don't need it, and we don't. Xiao Fan, are you listening to me?"
Although she said that, she secretly wished they could buy a car.
It was just that she was afraid of spending money and had no desire for comparison.
Lin Fan replied without thinking. "Isn't that obvious? Of course, I'm listening!"
"If I don't listen to sister-in-law, who will I listen to?"
Lin Fan said this, but in his heart, he had already made a note of it.
He had thought that with Wang Ying's intervention, the Cao family father and son would have backed down and the matter would have been over.
Now it seemed Cao Yun was still unyielding!
Lin Fan pondered, and decided that he would find an opportunity to deal a harsh blow to the Cao family.
They were useless when it came to serving the common people, but they were twice as good at oppressing them.
If these two pests weren't removed, could the common people have a good life?
When they arrived at Song Yue's house, the meal was just being prepared.
"Why did it take you two so long to get here?"
Song Yue, wearing an apron, came out of the kitchen.
Seeing their unhappy expressions, she asked again, "Sister Xue'er, you and Xiao Fan look like you're not very happy. What happened?"
"Nothing." Xia Xue smiled. "I came to help you."
With that, they both started setting the table, bringing dishes, and arranging bowls and chopsticks.
Lin Fan then unloaded the water urn from the small cart and placed it in the yard.
