"Watch closely."
Lin Fan flipped his palm, ordering the Golden Silkworm Gu to stay still.
Then, the little creature fell like a stone into the scorching flames.
"Aiya!"
"It's really burning!"
Su Yurou and Wang Ying were incredibly surprised.
Neither of them had expected this beautiful little bug to be so obedient, not resisting at all.
At this moment, both women felt a pang of regret.
Tales of loyal dogs were common, but who would have thought a small insect could be so devoted.
To see it burn like this was truly unbearable.
"Come back." Lin Fan sensed the Golden Silkworm Gu's emotions; it seemed to be crying out, "So hot, so hot!" Yet, its life was not in danger.
As Lin Fan extended his hand, it flew out of the furnace.
"It's still alive?"
"You're not performing magic, are you?"
Su Yurou and Wang Ying's eyes widened. Forgetting their fear, they leaned closer.
When the two women saw the Golden Silkworm Gu unharmed, cleaning the black soot from its face with its tiny claws, they were utterly astonished.
Hadn't it fallen into the furnace?
How could it still be alive?
They had never heard of insects being fireproof, and its six wings were also intact. This was simply miraculous!
"How long are you going to keep fussing with that?"
Lin Fan had confirmed the little creature was not afraid of fire and now wanted to test if it was also immune to water.
Lin Fan opened the door and pointed to a puddle in the courtyard. "Go wash yourself clean and come back." With a flick of his hand, a golden streak flashed through the air.
Su Yurou and Wang Ying watched in amazement as a small golden speck rapidly swam in the puddle, creating ripples on the water's surface.
"This..."
The two women's perceptions were repeatedly challenged. They were speechless, unsure of what to say.
"Indeed, it's impervious to water and fire. I should find a knife next and see if it's resistant to blades."
Lin Fan looked back, trying to recall where his sister-in-law kept the knives.
"If you chop it with a knife, it will definitely hold a grudge."
"Yes, what if it attacks you?"
Su Yurou and Wang Ying anxiously stopped Lin Fan.
This little creature was too formidable, and the two women feared that if Lin Fan struck it with a knife, it might retaliate.
Not only would Lin Fan be in trouble, but they might suffer as well.
With a splash, the Golden Silkworm Gu flew out of the water, hovering in the air and beating its wings vigorously. It quickly cleaned itself and flew back.
"Xiaofan, how many of these insects do you have?" Wang Ying reached out and pointed behind her towards the room.
"A little over two hundred," Lin Fan replied truthfully.
"What are we going to do?" Wang Ying was on the verge of tears. These little creatures were not afraid of fire or water and possessed extreme aggression.
From its swift and brutal dismemberment of three sparrows, one could discern its ferocious nature.
"Sigh," Lin Fan sighed. "You're worried, and so am I."
"Perhaps, let them return to where they came from," Su Yurou suggested.
"That's right," Wang Ying seconded. "Let them go back to Siam."
The two women looked at Lin Fan with hopeful anticipation, wishing he would do as they suggested.
"They can't go back," Lin Fan said, knowing full well how potent these Gu worms were. He was unwilling to send them away.
They would be of great use in dealing with demons in the future!
"Their master is dead, and by chance, they have recognized me as their master. If they are sent back, they will become masterless."
"Also, they feed on flesh and blood."
"Imagine the consequences if they completely lost control."
Upon hearing this, the two women envisioned scenes from a disaster movie. Their expressions shifted from terror to despair, and finally to bewilderment.
"The people of Siam would hate me then!" Lin Fan said, exasperated.
"This won't work, and that won't work. What are we going to do?" Wang Ying was filled with anxiety.
"Let's just keep them for now. When there's an opportunity, we'll find a suitable place to settle them. We can't rush this," Lin Fan advised.
"Just make sure you don't cause any trouble," Su Yurou warned.
"Don't worry, with me here, everything will be foolproof," Lin Fan smiled.
"I'll pour you some ginger soup. My sister-in-law's kind intentions shouldn't be wasted."
Lin Fan flicked his hand, and the Golden Silkworm Gu obediently flew into the room. Before they could even discern its flight path, it had vanished into some unseen crevice.
Su Yurou and Wang Ying finally felt at ease, breathing a sigh of relief as they sat back down and watched Lin Fan at work.
The hot ginger soup, blended with the sweetness of brown sugar and jujubes, carried a hint of medicinal aroma.
After a few sips, Su Yurou and Wang Ying felt a warmth spreading through their stomachs, as if all negative emotions had been swept away. Beautiful smiles bloomed on their faces.
"It's delicious, isn't it?" Lin Fan placed the kettle back on the stove to reheat it.
"It's delicious because of your sister-in-law's efforts. What are you so proud of?" Su Yurou rolled her eyes.
Wang Ying covered her mouth and chuckled. She suddenly remembered that Lin Fan had no parents, only a sister-in-law at home, who was gentle and generous and surely easy to get along with.
As she thought, a captivating light flickered in Wang Ying's almond-shaped eyes, and a shy smile graced her lips.
Lin Fan found himself intensely drawn to her.
If not for Su Yurou's presence, he would have surely made Wang Ying his right then and there!
She possessed the alluring maturity of a young woman and the shy charm of a maiden, making her incredibly captivating.
"The big windmill turns around and around..."
Just then, a mobile phone ringtone sounded.
"It's probably my sister-in-law calling us for dinner."
Lin Fan answered the call, and indeed, it was Xia Xue asking them to come for dinner.
"We didn't bring anything when we came. Is it not appropriate to visit empty-handed? Why don't you take us to a nearby shop to buy something?" Wang Ying suggested.
"The village only has a small supermarket, no large stores. Let's go. My sister-in-law is a good person and never picks on others," Lin Fan said, standing up to usher them.
The rain had stopped, but the dark clouds that obscured the sun had not dispersed.
A cold wind blew, causing Su Yurou and Wang Ying to shiver.
"I'll go get you some clothes. You two are wearing too little," Lin Fan remarked, shaking his head.
The two women immediately felt wronged.
Why were they wearing so little?
It was precisely to be seen by the one they cared for!
"No need, we'll drive," Wang Ying rolled her eyes dramatically.
"The village roads are bad, full of potholes and puddles. My sheepskin boots cost over five thousand, and they'll be ruined if they get wet," Su Yurou said, displaying the leather boots that encased her slender calves.
"As you wish," Lin Fan smiled helplessly. For the sake of beauty, they wouldn't regret freezing to death!
"Xiaofan, is it okay for us to leave like this?" Wang Ying asked worriedly.
"Nothing will happen. The Gu worms are not as terrifying as you imagine," Lin Fan stated with certainty.
"What if someone intrudes?" Wang Ying was still uneasy.
"In Luofeng Village, no one dares to casually barge into my clinic unless they don't fear being beaten to death by the villagers." With that, Lin Fan gently pushed Wang Ying towards the exit.
