Chapter 438: Chapter 390 Really Won’t Be Too Ugly_2
Every time she woke up, she could find strands of her own hair on the pillow, a rather shocking sight.
Her once dark and shiny long hair had become thin and sparse. She grew increasingly averse to looking in the mirror and always wore a hat when going out.
That morning, as she brushed her hair, another bunch fell out. Clutching it in her palm, she suddenly felt a wave of sadness. Would the end of her life come once she lost all her hair?
These days, she often imagined her own death, which was even more heartbreaking than when she first learned of her illness. She didn’t want to face the sorrow of her family and friends.
"What’s wrong?" A pair of warm hands suddenly rested on her shoulders. Gu Qili lifted her head and saw Mu Shuoqian in the mirror, gazing at her with deep black eyes.
She quickly tightened her grip on the hair in her hand, not wanting him to see how much she had lost.
Looking at the clearly emaciated reflection in the mirror, Gu Qili asked with a touch of melancholy, "Would I look ugly if I lost all my hair and became bald?"
"No, because there are things like wigs," Mu Shuoqian said, his heart aching sharply at her words. But to comfort her, he still joked with a smile, "Then, you could wear all kinds of wigs, changing hairstyles every day."
Gu Qili laughed at his jest, but underneath her thin eyelids, she couldn’t hide a trace of disappointment. No girl doesn’t care about beauty.
"Really, you won’t look ugly," Mu Shuoqian assured her with certainty, repeating himself.
The next day, Gu Qili went to check on the grapevines when she unexpectedly encountered Mei Zi, who greeted her with a mysterious smile.
Gu Qili, baffled by her laughter, touched her own face: "Mei Zi, what are you laughing at?"
"I’m laughing at how good your husband is to you."
Gu Qili was completely lost: "What are you talking about? Isn’t he at work?"
"Just go and see for yourself."
Now with her interest piqued by Mei Zi’s hint, Gu Qili went to the office full of curiosity and met Ah V coming out, sporting the same smile as Mei Zi.
"Is Mu Shuoqian inside?" Gu Qili was now even more puzzled and eager to find out what Mu Shuoqian was up to.
"He is," said Ah V, adding, "Prepare yourself mentally before you go in."
"For what?" Gu Qili didn’t understand.
Ah V smiled mysteriously and pushed the door open for her, "You’ll see when you go in."
What on earth were these people up to?
Muttering to herself, Gu Qili entered the office and found someone sitting at her usual working spot, his head bent in concentration over some files.
The sunlight streaming through the window bathed him in a golden glow that was captivating.
But what truly shocked Gu Qili was that Mu Shuoqian had shaved his head completely bald.
Despite her initial surprise, a strong wave of emotion surged, making her nose tingle and bringing her close to tears.
Such a proud and vain man had shaved his head to look ridiculous, just because he had told her the night before that being bald wouldn’t look ugly.
Mu Shuoqian looked up from the pile of files when he sensed her arrival. Though not familiar with the specifics of the vineyard business, his solid business acumen made it easy for him to grasp the essentials and manage everything with ease.
A handsome man remains handsome, even with a shaved head, but against his imposing business suit, his appearance now had an abrupt change. Gu Qili would have found this funny but didn’t feel like laughing at all.
"Didn’t I tell you to rest at home? Why did you sneak out again?" Before Mu Shuoqian could finish his question, he was embraced by a fragrant figure — Gu Qili, hugging his neck tightly, too moved to speak.
How could she bear to leave such a man?
"Do you think I look handsome?" Mu Shuoqian turned her face so she could look at him. His serious demeanor finally made Gu Qili laugh.
She pursed her lips, "I just think you’re very bright, bright like shining."
After saying this, she couldn’t hold back her laughter anymore, and soon, tears of laughter followed. It had been a long time since she had felt so joyful.
"I’m back!" The door was pushed open from the outside, and a shiny small head peeked in. Mu Qinian, who always followed Fan Bin to play in the mountains, came running in.
Upon seeing him, Gu Qili burst out laughing. He had the same bald head as Mu Shuoqian, shiny like a peeled egg, and with his young face, looked indescribably comical.
Gu Qili knew how much Mu Qinian cared about his hairstyle, always spending a long time grooming it in the bathroom before going out. So, for him to abandon his dapper image and shave his head made her feel an overwhelm of emotion after the laughter.
With their father and son’s tender support and company, she wouldn’t regret it even if her remaining days were few.
The grapevines finally sprouted leaves in the garden, a vast expanse of bright green from a distance.
Gu Qili awoke late this morning; it was already noon. She had been in pain all night, scarcely sleeping until nearly four o’clock when she finally drifted off.
She felt her mental state deteriorating day by day, even walking was becoming difficult. Despite this, she insisted on visiting the vineyard daily, watching its growth with her own eyes.
As she caressed a tender green leaf, Gu Qili envisioned the vineyard full of ripe grapes, their wine filled into bottles, labeled with the vineyard logo, distributed continuously around the world.
"You’re here," called Mu Qinian from a distance, carrying a stick picked up from the mountain.
Gu Qili was about to tell him to slow down when suddenly everything went dark, and she lost consciousness.
