The eyes hidden in the darkness stared fixedly at the bread and milk in Jiang Jiang's hands.
Jiang Jiang could even hear the faint, almost imperceptible sound of swallowing in the air.
Jiang Jiang lowered his head, his eyes cast down. Where the other's gaze couldn't reach, he had already set down the milk and picked up the weapon he used to deal with zombies.
After finishing the bread, Jiang Jiang freed a hand and drank the milk.
"Burp~"
Feeling full and satisfied, Jiang Jiang even let out an exaggerated burp.
Yet, the owner of the eyes in the darkness still hadn't taken any action.
Jiang Jiang thought to himself, "They really have some patience."
He didn't know when they started monitoring him, but it wasn't a recent development.
He had been careless, too focused on digging for crystal cores, completely forgetting his sister's instructions and warnings.
Such a mistake couldn't happen again.
He wouldn't always be this lucky!
This was the apocalypse; he had to act with caution and prudence. He had promised to stick close to his sister and thrive in this new world, and he had to keep his word. He couldn't drop out halfway.
The other party had plenty of time to watch his every move, but that didn't mean he would allow them to monitor him with impunity.
So, since his abilities had been upgraded, why not give it a try?
A slight smile curved Jiang Jiang's lips at the thought. Of course, he had to try.
It would be a shame to miss out on a free test subject.
Jiang Jiang focused his mind, concentrating on the eyes hidden in the darkness, his expression turning serious and solemn.
The eyes, still lurking in the shadows, watched Jiang Jiang. Seeing him finish eating and hang his head, seemingly asleep, the owner of the eyes was about to make a move. Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through their head.
It felt as if a pair of hands had suddenly reached out and were forcibly trying to split their skull open.
"Ugh—"
The pain was so intense that the owner of the eyes couldn't help but let out a sound. Then, their knees buckled, and they fell heavily onto one knee.
With such a commotion, Jiang Jiang couldn't pretend to be oblivious any longer.
Jiang Jiang withdrew his mental control over the owner of the eyes, slung his bag over his shoulder, grabbed his weapon, and walked towards them.
When Jiang Jiang reached the person, the gender of the eyes' owner was revealed: an adult male, about seven or eight years older than Jiang Jiang.
Jiang Jiang, holding a weapon in each hand, looked down at the kneeling man. His voice echoed above the man's head, "You've been following me, spying on me. What do you want?"
The man hadn't expected to be exposed so easily. He had been planning to launch a surprise attack while Jiang Jiang was resting.
Now that he was discovered, there was no need to hide. The man stood up, not bothering to brush the dust off his pants. He looked at Jiang Jiang's face, half of which was covered by a mask, revealing a young, tender, and inexperienced face.
"Don't misunderstand, I mean no harm." The man said this and then looked at Jiang Jiang with a sincere expression, explaining, "I was out gathering supplies, but I saw you digging stones from zombie heads, and I was very curious, so I followed you all the way."
"We're all survivors in this apocalypse. I truly mean no harm. If I did, we probably wouldn't be standing here, calmly talking. Don't you think so? If you're willing, I'd really like to hear what you do with those stones."
Hearing the man's explanation, Jiang Jiang suddenly understood. "My sister likes these stones."
Having spent so much time with Su Ling, Jiang Jiang had learned to be cautious and kept the purpose of the crystal cores to himself.
After a brief explanation, Jiang Jiang introduced himself, "My name is Jiang Jiang. And you?"
The man smiled, revealing his white teeth, his rugged features exuding a roguish charm. "Han Xu."
