Silence was the only reply to Gu Shangse’s words from Su Ling.
The two sat in silence, until the mobile fortress of the Rao siblings next door slowly began to move, breaking their quietude.
Rao Beichen and his sister stood outside their dwelling, looking over at Su Ling and Gu Shangse.
“We will meet again,” Rao Beichen called out to them.
Rao Can, standing beside him, waved goodbye to Su Ling and Gu Shangse. “Sister Su Ling, after you’ve picked up the person you’re looking for, please do come north. I’ll cook you a delicious meal using the vegetables I’ve grown.”
Su Ling stood up, facing the Rao siblings, and waved back. “Alright, I will.”
After the Rao siblings’ mobile fortress moved in the opposite direction of Su Ling and her companions, their own mobile fortress began to advance along the route Su Ling had planned.
While the other survivors slept, Su Ling and her group traveled under the cover of night.
As Sister Na and the others drifted off to sleep, Su Ling stood in the courtyard, gazing at the patch of soil she had designated.
Soon, seeds would be sown on this earth, sprouting into lush green plants.
This was far from enough. She needed to further enhance her abilities, establish pastures and farms, and raise cattle, sheep, pigs, chickens, ducks, seafood, and aquatic products… She wanted her mobile fortress to have everything.
Squatting down, Su Ling picked up a handful of black soil and quietly observed it.
All of this was dependent on the crystal cores they acquired. They needed to continue killing zombies and collecting crystal cores to upgrade their abilities, and she needed to keep producing high-quality crystal cores. Never forget to guard against danger in times of peace, just because life had become comfortable.
The next stop was to meet Han Xu.
She was curious to see how Han Xu would survive the apocalypse in this lifetime without her by his side.
As for Yang Guang, she had already sent him to prison.
In that place, once the apocalypse broke out, even if he miraculously didn't turn into a zombie, he would become food for them.
She respected the lives of all survivors, but only if they did not cross her bottom line.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t hesitate to get her hands dirty with blood and slaughter.
What followed would be true human nature, and the hell on earth would continue to unfold.
This world wouldn't get the worst, only worse.
Her momentary act of kindness would no longer apply in this apocalyptic world.
Her kindness needed to be put away.
And—
Han Xu, she was determined to kill him!
Instead of going upstairs to rest, Su Ling went to the control room. She turned off the fortress’s lights and sat alone in the dark control room. Resting her legs on the console, she leaned back in her chair and fell into a deep sleep.
Su Ling’s sleep was restless; she had a dream.
In her dream, Shang Qi appeared, standing in a field of black mist. A ray of light pierced through the mist, vaguely illuminating his silhouette.
Su Ling stood in the light, looking at Shang Qi in the mist. She called out to him, “Shang Qi.”
Although she couldn’t see him clearly, her subconscious knew it was Shang Qi.
Shang Qi stood with his back to Su Ling, as if he couldn’t hear her call.
Su Ling stepped forward and quickly reached Shang Qi’s side, finding herself enveloped in the black mist with him.
Su Ling also saw Shang Qi’s face clearly, just as she remembered it—
His refined and slender features, a jawline with smooth contours, thick eyebrows, and an aura as gentle as a breeze.
A tear mole, located precisely below his left eyelid, sparkled beautifully.
Shang Qi held a knife in his hand, blood dripping from it. A heavy, bloody scent emanated from him.
Even with his hands stained with blood and slaughter, his face remained as clean as ever.
Looking at the man before her, Su Ling waved her hand in front of his eyes and called out, “Shang Qi?”
