Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Marriage Registration, Bride Price of Two Hundred Thousand Delivered
Christian was a bit flustered and wanted to reach out to embrace but was dodged by Nora.
This was a well-known dating park, and at the moment, many older men and women passed by the two, pointing and whispering.
Christian couldn’t maintain his composure and suddenly shouted, "Nora, don’t be ungrateful. With your conditions, finding someone like me is the luck of three lifetimes. No one else will give you a dowry of 188,000, and I’ll be waiting for you to come begging me!"
He left angrily, and Nora couldn’t hold it anymore, slumping down onto a bench, her long hair messily blown by the wind barely covering her embarrassment.
She had promised May that she would bring back the dowry money today.
But now...
As she was at a loss, suddenly someone handed her a color-printed personal introduction page.
"Miss, interested in a date?"
Nora looked up to see a kindly elderly woman smiling at her and quickly stood up politely to offer her seat.
"Hello, Grandma, I’m not interested in dating!"
The altercation between Nora and Christian earlier had been witnessed by many elderly women.
Grandma Sinclair was one of them.
She didn’t agree with the mocking disdain shown by the busybodies toward Nora.
Instead, she admired the young girl’s straightforward calmness even more.
"Even if you’re not interested in dating, you can at least listen. My grandson is 30 years old, has a car, a house, savings, is tall, handsome, and capable, and has never had a girlfriend. Are you interested?"
Seeing Grandma Sinclair with an expression like a salesperson, Nora once again politely declined and turned to leave.
Then Grandma Sinclair suddenly said, "If you get married today, I’ll immediately give a dowry of 200,000!"
This condition involuntarily stopped Nora in her tracks.
She knew it was irrational.
A thirty-year-old young man without any emotional experience must either be extremely ugly, have a terrible temper, or have some hidden illness.
But Christian was right about one thing.
For a dowry of 188,000, given her background, no one in all of Stanton City would offer it.
Quentin’s irritability, May’s suffering, and all these reasons made Nora’s feet feel like they were filled with lead, unable to move.
She pondered for a moment and turned to look at Grandma Sinclair.
"You saw what happened just now?"
This girl was truly clever, and Grandma Sinclair liked her more and more, nodding without hiding it.
Her honesty gradually calmed Nora’s heart.
"I don’t want 200,000, just 188,000. I’ll write you an IOU, and after I clear the debt, if your grandson and I don’t get along, you must agree to let me divorce."
Grandma Sinclair immediately agreed and took Nora’s hand to call her grandson.
"Half an hour at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau. If you don’t come, I’ll lie in the main road and let you collect my corpse!"
Her imposing shout left Nora stunned.
Half an hour later, a car unfamiliar to Nora screeched to a stop in front of them.
The car door opened, and a pair of long, straight legs stepped out, and Nora got a very direct sense of how tall and handsome Grandma Sinclair’s grandson really was.
Nearly 1.9 meters tall, with an imposing presence and an uncommonly handsome face that almost left Nora dazed.
Jasper’s cold eyes swept over the stunned woman, a flash of disdain passing through his gaze.
She did look fair and innocent, yet she could deceive his grandmother into forcing him to the marriage registry. Quite some skill.
"Satisfied? If so, get inside and register for the marriage certificate."
His chilling tone carried no inflection, as if they were discussing not a lifelong commitment but the weather.
"Qu-quite satisfied!"
Nora regained her senses and involuntarily swallowed, noting that his clothes and watch appeared very expensive — getting the 188,000 wouldn’t be hard.
As for the person...
The barely-contained disdain was something she found quite pleasing.
