Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Foolish Woman
Without a second thought, he signed his name directly, then tossed the phone to Nora and strode into the door of the Civil Affairs Bureau.
A gust of cold wind followed, and Nora instinctively shivered. It was only then that she realized the man had been blocking the wind for her all along.
She looked down at the IOU with the three bold characters "Jasper Sinclair" and tightened her grip on the phone, quickly following inside.
The paperwork was completed smoothly without any mishaps.
In just over ten minutes, two red booklets were handed to them.
Leaving the counter, Jasper’s steps paused as he blocked Nora behind him in the corridor.
Nora was still in a daze, seemingly not quite understanding how she had ended up married so recklessly, without any forewarning, and just bumped straight into his back. Her nose hurt so much, it brought tears to her eyes.
She swiftly stepped back two paces, rubbing the tip of her nose and apologizing.
Those beautiful almond-shaped eyes were veiled with an alluring mist, inexplicably captivating.
Jasper only felt a strange dryness in his throat, this unfamiliar sensation causing him to frown.
"Don’t be so clumsy!"
He rebuked her, then retrieved a bank card and a set of keys from his pocket to hand to Nora.
"Southwood Court, Building 20, Unit 2, Apartment 608. These are the keys; you can move in anytime!"
"I will deposit fifty thousand into this bank card every month for living expenses; you can decide how to use it!"
"Grandma’s health isn’t good, she won’t live with us, but you need to go back to the old house to see her once a week. I’m leaving on a business trip tonight; my return date is uncertain, so you’re on your own!"
He spoke in one breath, not waiting for Nora to respond before preparing to leave. Suddenly, recalling something, he paused mid-step.
"The bride price will be transferred this afternoon!"
Nora’s mind was momentarily flooded with information, and when she regained her senses, Jasper’s figure had already disappeared.
She stared at the bank card and keys in her hand, feeling like she was dreaming.
She had actually married someone she’d known for less than ten minutes!
After leaving the Civil Affairs Bureau, Jasper found the driver already waiting at the door.
The car door opened, and Grandma Sinclair eagerly asked, "How was it? Is the bride I chose for you quite special?"
Special?
Jasper thought of that ridiculous electronic IOU, involuntarily curling his lips into a smile.
Specially foolish?
Full of loopholes, any lawyer could easily make her end up with nothing.
He handed the marriage certificate to Grandma Sinclair.
"The marriage is done; your surgery can’t be delayed any longer. The expert team will arrive tonight, and I’ll have Aunt accompany you!"
Grandma Sinclair looked at the wedding certificate with the two of them on it, smiling with utter satisfaction.
"Even if Grandma dies on the operating table, I can die with my eyes closed. When I see your grandfather and parents in the afterlife, I will have something to explain."
"Grandma, you’re just having a coronary bypass surgery, with a success rate of over ninety percent!"
Jasper frowned, his tone carrying a hint of helplessness, though the cold light in his eyes softened.
In Stanton City, he could be ruthless and decisive with anyone, but when it came to the grandma who raised him, he was helpless.
Grandma Sinclair rolled her eyes and stuffed the marriage certificate into her pocket.
"Isn’t there still a ten percent chance I might kick the bucket? I’m giving you three years, and if I don’t see a great-grandson, I’ll have your Aunt publish a special edition saying you’re incapable!"
Jasper: ...
Three years, that foolish woman’s IOU repayment period is three years!
He knew with Grandma’s temperament, it’s impossible to easily give that foolish woman the promise, "pay off the debt and we can divorce!"
Ignoring the topic, he signaled the driver to start the car.
The car started, but Grandma held the door urgently, "My granddaughter-in-law hasn’t gotten in yet."
"Grandma, I plan to get married only once in my lifetime. Since that’s the case, shouldn’t it be my job to carry out the next test on my wife?"
Jasper’s words interrupted Grandma’s planned antics.
She knew that too much would be inappropriate; though her grandson was filial, he was also very principled, pressing him further might have the opposite effect.
However, she could tweak the test a bit, encouraging them to consummate the marriage sooner!
