Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Standing Up for Her
But who would have thought he knew I was already married and still went back to find his mom to humiliate me.
It would be a lie to say it didn’t hurt, but this hurt seemed to dissipate quickly.
"Come on, Nora, you’re not still upset about that jerk, are you?" Lily walked over and put her arm around her friend’s shoulder.
"No way, I’m already married, whatever he’s up to has nothing to do with me."
Nora laughed as she spoke, Christian was just someone from her past.
It’s just years of feelings fed to the dogs.
The two young women laughed and started playfully fighting, neither thinking about the upsetting matter anymore.
On Saturday, as planned, Quentin Ford and May Lawrence brought Spencer Ford over, and from the Sinclair family, it was Raina Sinclair attending.
Nora got up early to prepare breakfast.
Although he’s still not quite used to Chinese food, Jasper can eat some of it now.
"Mr. Sinclair, I need to go out to buy some fruits and vegetables after breakfast, is there anything you need?"
Putting down her chopsticks, she asked softly.
Jasper was taken aback for a moment, then picked up a napkin to wipe his mouth: "I’ll go with you."
He remembered Louis Hayes saying that ordinary couples go grocery shopping together.
If they were going to pretend, they needed to do it all the way.
Hearing what he said, Nora was full of surprise.
She didn’t expect Mr. Sinclair would suggest going with her; she was momentarily stunned, but eventually nodded in agreement.
After breakfast, she tidied up the kitchen quickly, and then the two of them went out to the supermarket.
They picked out some vegetables and ribs, and also bought a chicken.
"Is there anything your little aunt likes to eat?" she asked in the vegetable section, remembering that Raina was coming from the Sinclair side.
"She likes anything you make." Jasper followed her with the shopping cart.
The little woman in front of him was in a long white dress, weaving through the vegetable section, picking out the dishes for dinner.
To say the least, what his aunt likes to eat couldn’t be bought at this supermarket, and even if it could be, delicacies like caviar with foie gras are far from ordinary.
He followed behind, watching her compare items back and forth for a long time before she picked the one to buy.
"Aren’t these two the same? What’s there to compare?"
He genuinely didn’t understand why she’d spend so long comparing two identical-looking mushrooms.
Nora smiled, clearly Mr. Sinclair didn’t usually buy groceries or cook: "This one is fresher, and there’s a bit more of it, yet it’s not much more expensive, so it’s a better choice."
After saying this, she went on to buy the next needed item.
Jasper picked up the two kinds of mushrooms and looked at them; they were only a couple of cents apart.
To him, a couple of cents were utterly insignificant, but he licked his lips, watching her hum a tune joyfully, and for once, he said nothing.
Is she really thrifty? Or was his first impression of her wrong?
Whether he was overthinking or not, he’d have to observe her more to find out.
With a big bag of groceries, on the way back, Jasper said he had already called a cab.
In reality, he had called the family driver to pick them up, and to make it look authentic, he had even arranged for a particularly cheap car to be used as a cover.
The driver didn’t dare to say a word and had to follow the young master’s instructions, dropping them off and then leaving.
Once back home, she took out the fruits they bought and washed them, putting them on a fruit plate, then turned to wash and prepare the vegetables.
