Chapter 140: Chapter 140: How Was She Blind Enough to Fall for Him?
On the day of the banquet, Nora Northwood attended in a bespoke high-end dress specially tailored for her by Jasper Sinclair.
Despite her career setbacks, her face showed no signs of distress.
The moment she entered the venue, everyone’s gaze towards her changed.
But mostly, it was just curiosity.
Hidden within the crowd, Christian Quinn watched Nora as if nothing had happened, feeling uneasy, gripping his glass tightly.
Shouldn’t she be feeling miserable at home? How could she still attend a banquet?
"What’s wrong?" The supervisor next to him looked at his expression, puzzled. What’s this guy looking so gloomy about?
"Nothing, nothing." He withdrew his gaze, trying his best not to look at that figure in the hall.
For some reason, she seemed even more beautiful than before, and far better dressed.
There was a bit of unwillingness and regret, but these were nowhere near as overwhelming as the anger within him. Because of this bitch, he was no longer the young master of the Quinn Family; he instead needed connections to find a job at The Sinclair Group. He used to at least be a supervisor, but now he was just a clerk.
His teeth were nearly ground to pieces, he desperately wanted to kill Nora Northwood to vent his anger.
"Stay sharp for a while, although the CEO isn’t attending today, we still represent The Sinclair Group." The supervisor couldn’t help but nag again before taking him aside to find clients.
Meanwhile, since entering the hall, Nora Northwood sat by herself, already accustomed to the gazes thrown in her direction.
Calmly taking a sip of her drink, she simply enjoyed herself sitting there.
Suddenly, a figure appeared in front of her, and looking up, it turned out to be Yuna Hughes.
"What, are you here to watch me make a fool of myself too?" she said jokingly.
Standing before her, Yuna Hughes looked at her with a complex expression.
Making a fool of herself? Indeed, there was something of that, but more so confusion—how could such a minor situation escalate to this level?
"Seems like apart from me, you’ve made quite a few enemies." Yuna shrugged. In just a few short months, she rose to the position of design manager, using this as a springboard to prove herself. Next, she planned to establish her own brand, and by then, she would be able to compete against Nora Northwood.
"Who knows." Nora looked as if she didn’t care.
Seeing her like this, Yuna felt a bit uneasy, but more so relieved.
Perhaps she feared that after Nora’s downfall, she’d be left without a competitor.
She was about to say something when Vincent Morgan suddenly appeared beside them.
"Yuna Hughes? What are you doing here?" His gaze showed vigilance, having not seen this woman since their last fallout. Seeing her again in this scenario was unexpected.
Although his tone sounded calm, Yuna Hughes knew him for so long, how could she not discern it?
Being accused like this, any admiration she had in her heart for Nora Northwood faded away.
"Ha, what, afraid I’ll bully your beloved?" With a cold laugh, she no longer held such an obsession for Vincent Morgan.
This man might be praised as suave, but at worst he’s cold.
Though he liked Nora Northwood, he remained silent when she encountered troubles—what’s the use of such affection?
At best it’s called self-interest; at worst, it’s selfishness.
Vincent furrowed his brows, instinctively glancing at Nora Northwood; this look caused Yuna’s heart to fill with even more mockery.
How blind she was to have liked him back in the day; thinking about it now really made her regret!
"Yuna Hughes, don’t talk nonsense." He sternly replied, glimpsing Nora Northwood seemingly unaffected, and feeling relieved, yet simultaneously irritated.
