Chapter 440 Are You a Dog?

"You don't cherish what you have once you get it," Shi Xinxin pouted, clearly displeased. She closed the door behind her and had only taken a few steps when Sheng Chenjin's figure flickered into existence.

Shi Xinxin feigned anger, ignoring Sheng Chenjin.

Sheng Chenjin, of course, knew why Shi Xinxin was upset. He tugged at her urgently, "Shi Xinxin, I didn't mean to. I was just delirious from being sick and sleepy from the medicine."

Upon hearing Sheng Chenjin mention his illness, Shi Xinxin forgot her anger and looked at him with concern, "Are you alright? Have you taken your medicine?"

"Yes," Sheng Chenjin's appearance indeed lacked energy. "I had a fever again in the middle of the night, so I got up to take medicine. It might be the effect of the medicine, making it difficult to get up this morning."

Hearing Sheng Chenjin's explanation, Shi Xinxin felt a pang of sympathy. "If you're not up to it, don't come. Go back and rest properly. I can go to school by myself, you don't need to accompany me."

Despite Shi Xinxin's words, Sheng Chenjin remained resolute. "No, let me accompany you."

"Don't worry, I'll come back to see you right after school. I won't go to the bar, nor will I drink," Shi Xinxin promised Sheng Chenjin.

But Sheng Chenjin still looked very uneasy. "Just let me accompany you."

"I'll be worried!" Shi Xinxin looked at Sheng Chenjin, speaking each word sincerely.

Seeing Shi Xinxin's expression, Sheng Chenjin no longer insisted. Instead, he nodded, "Alright, since that's the case, I'll go back to rest. If you need anything, call me. And when you come back, find me so I know you're safe."

Shi Xinxin lowered her head and smiled. "I'm always safe, don't imagine this country is that bad, okay?"

Hearing Shi Xinxin's words, Sheng Chenjin also smiled slightly. He watched until Shi Xinxin disappeared from his sight before returning to his room to rest.

By the time Shi Xinxin returned, it was already evening. She had also brought back some food. As soon as she arrived, she headed straight for Sheng Chenjin's house.

Before Shi Xinxin could even knock, the door was opened from the inside.

"How did you know I was here?" Shi Xinxin looked at Sheng Chenjin in surprise.

Sheng Chenjin smiled mysteriously, "Because I smelled your scent."

Shi Xinxin rolled her eyes at Sheng Chenjin. "Are you a dog?"

Sheng Chenjin looked innocent, feeling that his words were a bit inappropriate. He shrugged helplessly, "Okay, I was just bored staying in the room by myself, so I kept looking out the window to see when you would come."

Sheng Chenjin's tone sounded wronged, like a pathetic puppy confined to a room by its owner.

Shi Xinxin ignored Sheng Chenjin, showed him what she had in her hands, and said, "I'll cook for you."

Sheng Chenjin looked very happy. "This illness was worth getting."

"I hope you get well soon," Shi Xinxin replied to Sheng Chenjin without politeness.

Sheng Chenjin looked even more innocent. "Don't you like taking care of me that much?"

"Of course not, who likes taking care of a patient? You'd better get well soon. I have my own things to do and no time to accompany you every day," Shi Xinxin said ungraciously.

Sheng Chenjin smacked his lips, appearing helpless and wronged. "Then I'll try my best to get better quickly so you won't worry so much."

Hearing Sheng Chenjin's words, Shi Xinxin nodded.

After dinner, Shi Xinxin said she needed to go back to study. Sheng Chenjin tried every possible way, even acting shamelessly, to get Shi Xinxin to stay and keep him company, but Shi Xinxin remained firm.

In the end, Shi Xinxin returned to her own house, and Sheng Chenjin deliberately acted upset.

Shi Xinxin said something that made Sheng Chenjin even more upset. "Sheng Chenjin, I just don't want to be too clingy with you. If I love you too much, it will be even harder to part with you when we break up. If we break up next time, I definitely won't be as heartbroken as this time because I've figured it out."

As soon as she finished speaking, before Sheng Chenjin could even react, Shi Xinxin left. Sheng Chenjin was almost gaping in surprise as he listened to her words.

It wasn't until Shi Xinxin left that Sheng Chenjin finally reacted. But it was too late to keep Shi Xinxin there.

Sheng Chenjin couldn't tell if Shi Xinxin's words were meant to tease him or if she was truly heartbroken. Regardless, he felt inexplicably saddened by her words.

Sheng Chenjin pondered for almost an entire day, and finally understood. This must be what was called security. Perhaps he had never given Shi Xinxin enough security, which led her to feel this way. How could security be felt?

Sheng Chenjin fell into deep thought.

The next day, when Shi Xinxin went out, she still didn't see Sheng Chenjin. She pondered for a moment and continued walking.

When Shi Xinxin returned, she looked at Sheng Chenjin's house. The house was dark. "Is he not home?" Shi Xinxin wondered, intending to go and check on Sheng Chenjin.

However, Shi Xinxin thought about it and decided against it, heading towards her own house instead.

As Shi Xinxin opened the door, she felt something was wrong. The door lock seemed loose. Shi Xinxin became suspicious and cautiously stepped inside, wondering if a thief had broken in.

In the past, when she was in China, Shi Xinxin had seen news about foreign countries, especially the United States, where thieves were reportedly very rampant. This made Shi Xinxin even more fearful.

So, Shi Xinxin, with a pounding heart, gently opened the door, contemplating whether to call the police first.

Suddenly, as she stepped inside, there was a "pop!" sound, and the area in front of her lit up, albeit dimly. Shi Xinxin looked at what was before her in astonishment.

On the floor, illuminated by ninety-nine small lights from an unknown source, a heart shape had been formed. And in the center of the heart was a bouquet of roses.

Shi Xinxin was stunned for a moment, standing frozen.

Footsteps sounded from somewhere. Sheng Chenjin, dressed in a handsome suit, walked towards her. When he stood before her, he smiled at her gently, a smile Shi Xinxin would never forget.

Suddenly, Sheng Chenjin knelt on the ground, producing a diamond ring from somewhere. "Marry me."

Shi Xinxin was still in a daze. She had never expected Sheng Chenjin to do something like this, to kneel on the floor and propose to her.

For a moment, Shi Xinxin remained frozen, unsure of what to do.
