Chapter 40

Chapter 40: Chapter 40

They all gazed back at the soldier as he gazed back weirdly in shock. Silence crept in as he slowly turned his head to look deeper into the room, and as he searched slowly, his eyes finally met the sight of someone tied to a chair with blood all over the place.

it was his boss, Brygo, dead.

Without any further time to think, he raised his weapon, aggressively aiming at them to shoot immediately, but he was instantly kicked across the open passage, sending him flying and crashing into the wall before he could pull the trigger.

"What the!" another soldier at a different part of the hallway said loudly as his unconscious comrade came crashing out of nowhere.

Alerted and armed, he raised his gun as he faced the hallway his comrade came from. The visibility in the hallways was very dim due to the fairly lit light bulbs on the ceiling.

The soldier approached deeper and deeper into the path, grabbing a communication device and radioing in as he walked cautiously.

"Alpha one, I think we have a problem," he said as he cautiously walked slowly into the passage, his breath loud in his helmet as he aimed.

"This is Alpha one, what’s your situation?" A voice from the other side of the call spoke.

"We’ve got a man down, root cause unknown," the soldier said as he approached.

As he took another step forward, Yelena appeared out of the darkness, zooming toward him with full force. Quick to react, he aimed his gun and began firing, spraying bullets all over the place as Yelena dodged the incoming projectiles.

"Code Red!! Code Red!!" the soldier shouted into his comms as he fired at Yelena, hoping to land a single shot.

But before he could realize it, Yelena was already at his presence, right in front of him. Right then and there, his eyes widened in shock, finding it difficult to take in the moment of realization.

For some weirds reason, he was already looking in a different direction, away from his body.

"Huh?" he said in shock, vomiting out blood and crashing to his knees, fully realizing his head had been twisted backward against his body moments ago.

With a loud thud, he finally fell flat on the ground and died. Yelena stood silently, her eyes narrowing down on his lifeless body.

Just then, sirens began to blast loudly, and all light bulbs instantly turned red as a voice from a speaker echoed around the hall.

"Intruder alert! Intruder alert! All available defenses are authorized to assume their position!" a female voice from a speaker echoed loudly within the hallways.

"Alright, here we go," Eric said, he and Jimmy finally reaching Yelena as he picked up the dead soldier’s automatic weapon from the ground.

"Stay very close to me, Jimmy. It’s about to get real messy," Eric said, shouldering the weapon properly, taking a defensive stance as he turned his face to Jimmy and spoke.

Jimmy walked close to Eric, now having a less disturbed look on his face. He was rather calm than worried as he held the katana he went back to retrieve from Brygo’s wounded leg. Taking a deep breath and then exhaling smoothly, he finally spoke.

"Alright, let’s do this," Jimmy said to Eric, also adopting a determined stance as he looked forward into the hallways.

They all stood prepared, anticipating the incoming wave of threats they were about to encounter.

Footsteps of incoming soldiers were now getting louder and louder as they approached.

"Wanna know why I don’t have much friends?" Eric said to Jimmy, looking forward and maintaining his stance.

"Why?" Jimmy replied, a concentrated look on his face as he braced himself.

"It’s cause I drag myself into bloody messes like this, every damn time." Eric said, placing a playful smile on his face as he turned to look at Jimmy beside him.

Jimmy held a soft smirk on his face in response to Eric, fully understanding the joke.

"Then It just means I’m your only friend right now," Jimmy replied, a smirk maintained on his face as he held his stance and concentration.

"Yeah, yeah. let’s toast to surviving, if we do. Can’t even remember the last time I had a drink that didn’t come with blood on the rim." Eric said, a smirk on his face also as he turned to face forward once again.

The footsteps of the soldiers grew louder and louder by the second as they spoke to each other.

"I don’t take booze, so I think I’ll have to pass," Jimmy replied.

"Hehe... your loss then," Eric laughed, now holding the weapon upwards as he tightened his stance.

Finally, a handful of soldiers appeared from different directions of the hallways, all with their weapons armed and loaded.

"Fire!!!!" a soldier in front, who wore no helmet which revealed a scar crossing the side of his lips, spoke loudly with a commanding voice as he stretched his arm, pointing to the trio at a slight distance in the hallway.

Yelena blitzed forward at full speed. Eric and Jimmy dove halfway to different cover.

Within a split second, the hallways were engulfed in a huge wave of gunfire. Bullets pierced metal and tore through walls aggressively.

Her movements timed and calculated, Yelena moved swiftly between the available space of the passing projectiles, dodging and keeping up with their speed as she slowly approached them.

A wave of extremely swift, blurry movement could only be seen by the soldiers as Yelena slowly approached, dodging every passing wave of projectiles.

"Stanley!!" the commanding soldier in front of the shooting troops called out loudly, an authoritative tone in his voice, standing firmly, unfazed by the sound and blinding muzzle flashes from the engaging guns.

"Right away, sir!" a soldier amongst the group said, stopping his actions as he walked into the gathering of soldiers.

And then he returned, holding a heavy, two-shielded-like device on his shoulder as he moved forward, very close to the commanding soldier.

"Fire!!!" the commanding soldier in front spoke loudly.

Yelena finally appeared at their presence instantly, airborne as she pushed forward, her hand reaching for the neck of the commanding soldier.

**BOOM!!!**

An explosive shockwave erupted from the heavy device traveling forward, tearing apart walls and doors aggressively. Everything too fragile or not strong enough was torn into pieces.

The blast launched Yelena aggressively backward. Instinctively shielding herself a few inches before the blast could hit, she skidded across the hallway while standing firm on her feet, maintaining a defensive pose.

The blast couldn’t kill her, but it caused huge damage to her body, leaving her with broken bones on her hands and chest, and damaging a few organs, resulting in an internal bleeding she could clearly feel.

Had she been a normal person, the blast from the unknown device would have ripped her apart like it was nothing.

Immediately after the devastating blast, the wave of gunfire from the soldiers suddenly stopped as they spectated the results of their actions.

"Surrender now, and you might get a chance for a more forgivable execution," the commanding soldier said, his tone boldly authoritative, sharp, and direct.

"I am aware of who and what you are. You survived the first hit, but it’s a promise you won’t survive the second. Surrender!!" he added loudly.

Yelena stood still in silence as she listened and watched with cold eyes, her arms crossed in an ’X’ shape as she maintained her defensive pose. Her breathing pattern was changing to suppress her internal bleeding.

Seeing as he got no response and only silence from Yelena, he then lifted his head and commanded again.

"Prepare to engage once more," the commanding soldier spoke, giving a clear signal to initiate another blast from the device.

"Yes, sir!" the soldier holding the device on his shoulder replied, his voice laced with respect as he prepared to pull the trigger to launch another destructive blast.

As he placed his finger on the trigger to pull it backward, a single bullet pierced into his skull and came out the other way, killing him instantly and causing him to fall backward along with the device. His fall caused him to pull the trigger, initiating the charge process for another blast, facing the soldiers.

The commanding soldier’s eyes widened with realization as he turned around and prepared to run.

**BOOM!!!**

Another devastating and destructive shockwave erupted from the device, completely destroying the ceiling and tearing every single soldier apart, including the commanding soldier, as the wave sent body parts and blood flying in all directions.

The blast caused huge openings in all directions, completely revealing different internal sections of the building as sirens blew louder and louder.

"Well I’ll be damned... didn’t think that’d actually do the trick." Eric said from behind Yelena as he and Jimmy approached.

"Nice shot, thanks for the help" Yelena said calmly, putting down her defense as she faced forward while Eric and Jimmy came side by side to her.

"Was going for his hand on the bloody trigger" Eric replied as he stood beside Yelena, spectating the largely destroyed area before taking a look at Yelena.

He noticed her fingers were twitching abnormally as she gazed forward.

"Are you okay?" Eric asked, slightly worried about her condition, seeing as she was hit by a blast strong enough to cause such destructive damage to people and things around.

"I’m fine," Yelena replied, voice and expression cold as she then began to walk forward.

With her on the move, Jimmy and Eric tagged along.
