Chapter 138: Spell Archive
For now, Rayven kept his eyes fixed on the field as more spells were cast, one after another.
A few moments later, another apprentice shouted,
"Oh radiant flow that surges with life--
Aqua Stream!"
A jet of pressurized water blasted forth... It even twisted midair before crashing into a target with a sharp splash.
It was definitely quite similar to the power of a firefighter’s water hose.
Not long after, a different mage, this one holding a wand engraved with some unknown marks, extended his hand.
"O winds that guide unseen--
Gale Push!"
A gust erupted from his wand, sending a few nearby leaves scattering across the courtyard.
Rayven quietly observed as he focused on each spell. His Coinbound System was still running in the background and gathering data...
Soon, he checked his update.
[ Coinbound Archive: 4 new spell structures recorded. ]
[ Fire Element: Fireball (Uncommon) ]
[ Fire Element: Flame Wall (Uncommon) ]
[ Water Element: Aqua Stream (Uncommon) ]
[ Wind Element: Gale Push (Uncommon) ]
He blinked as faint text appeared in the corner of his vision, like invisible handwriting burned into his mind.
’It really recorded all of that...’
Curiosity got the better of him.
He then opened the Coinbound Archive, and various information appeared before his eyes, only visible to him.
Each spell had a short note attached, likely auto-generated by the Coinbound System.
[ Fireball (Uncommon): A basic offensive spell that gathers ambient fire mana to form a small explosive orb. Accuracy: User-dependent. ]
The description was different from his system’s Fireball. Furthermore, it was a note about its accuracy, which was quite helpful.
[ Flame Wall (Uncommon): A defensive fire-type spell forming a short-lived barrier of flames. Duration: 10 or more seconds. Mana requirement: Low. ]
[ Aqua Stream (Uncommon): A compressed flow of water that can extinguish flames and push targets back. Duration depends on the expended Mana.
[ Gale Push (Uncommon): Creates a brief gust of air to repel physical or magical attacks. Ineffective against high-density mana defense. ]
Rayven couldn’t help but smile slightly.
"Just by watching, huh... This system really is insane."
But then, he noticed a few of the mages beginning to glance at him.
He’d been standing by the railing for some time, hands in pockets, not chanting or practicing anything.
To them, he must have looked like someone evaluating their performance, or worse, a spy.
One of them, a young man with short red hair, frowned slightly.
"Hey... you just gonna stand there all day?" He asked, his tone half-joking, half-suspicious.
Rayven froze for a moment, then sighed inwardly.
’Right... it’ll look weird if I don’t cast at least something.’
Rayven then turned to one of the targets near him.
He pointed his finger at it to cast his spell...
The mages nearby turned slightly, watching him with faint curiosity as Rayven raised his hand.
They weren’t exactly sure, but it seemed that they only heard him say Fireball... However, Rayven might’ve just whispered it, and they failed to hear it.
That was possible for sure.
Nonetheless, they saw a sphere of red light condensed above his palm... It was bright, dense, and very stable!
It didn’t seem like a normal fireball at all!
Fwoom~
The ball of flame launched forward in a straight line, crossing over several meters before striking one of the distant targets.
BOOM!
The explosion was deep and heavy, like compressed mana suddenly erupting outward.
The target disintegrated into light, but just like before, it started reforming seconds later as the array continued to work.
For a brief moment, the training ground fell silent.
Several apprentices were silent... The one who cast the Aqua Stream couldn’t help but feel impressed.
"Impressive Fireball, kid. You probably practiced that a lot."
"Well, that’s probably his only Spell. Janice was also like that, she only had Wind Blade Spell, and she had perfected that Spell."
"That’s true... I have seven Spells. If I only have one, I’d probably reach the level of mastery too."
Rayven wryly smiled as he lowered his hand as if it were nothing special.
Nonetheless, he recalled the damage he had done, and he could tell that his spell was over twice as powerful as the ones he’d just seen.
The man who had previously cast his own Fireball knew that he was outclassed just now... However, he still felt a little better since he had just learned Fireball one month ago. He believed that Rayven’s Fireball had been mastered for three years or so.
Rayven simply turned his gaze back to the reformed target, and softly muttered...
"Guess that should clear up any suspicion..."
***
Rayven stayed for another hour or so, quietly watching as the apprentices rotated in and out of the practice ground.
Most of them were there to refine their accuracy or control, rather than to show off.
Soon, the place was filled with the sound of their incantations, and bursts of elemental energy filled the place.
He saw a woman in a green robe raising her staff toward the sky.
"O earth that slumbers beneath my feet--
Stone Rise!"
A boulder had then erupted from the ground, hitting a distant dummy before crumbling into dust.
Another mage chanted right beside her...
"Blades of air unseen--
Wind Cutter!"
Soon, others followed. Rayven’s eyes quietly tracked each spell as the Coinbound System continued recording.
[ Coinbound Archive: 8 new spell structures recorded. ]
[ Earth Element: Stone Rise (Uncommon) ]
[ Wind Element: Wind Cutter (Uncommon) ]
[ Water Element: Mist Veil (Uncommon) ]
[ Fire Element: Ember Shot (Common) ]
[ Lightning Element: Spark Bolt (Common) ]
[ Ice Element: Frost Lance (Uncommon) ]
[ Light Element: Radiant Flare (Rare) ]
[ Shadow Element: Shade Grip (Uncommon) ]
Each time a spell was cast, a lot of information appeared before Rayven’s eyes...
"Awesome spells, guys." Rayven muttered as he wanted to thank these Mages.
It was fascinating to realize that while these mages were just minding their own business, every single spell they cast was becoming data for him to acquire.
The information he was gathering here was something he’d probably only learn in Academies or high-grade books, but now, it was all for free thanks to the system.
