Xiao Wang

Chapter 458 Efficiency

He looked at the proprietress, not quite understanding why she had been so agitated moments before. Why couldn't they call the police?

While his social experience was limited, he was certain he was quite familiar with the law. For the proprietress's situation, if it could be mediated properly, and as long as he and Dongfang Jingjing didn't press too hard, her losses wouldn't be significant.

Yet, she acted as if calling the police would kill her.

Why?

If there had to be an answer...

It had to be that the proprietress was hiding something, some unknown wrong.

Zhuge Lan frowned, "Are you stubborn and unyielding?"

"No! We can't call the police... If we call, it's all over, everything is lost..." the proprietress murmured to herself, clutching her head. With Zhuge Lan's strength evident, she might be completely ruined, with no room for a comeback.

"What is it exactly?"

Wang Qiran, seeing the woman's state, also grew curious. He didn't stop making the call, quickly explaining the situation to the person on the other end, who assured him that the police would be dispatched immediately.

Soon, the police arrived.

In fact, they arrived perhaps too quickly. Within ten minutes, they were on the scene.

This was clearly beyond Wang Qiran's expectations. Could someone be pulling strings from behind the scenes?

During those ten minutes, out of curiosity, Wang Qiran had taken a look around, including the kitchen. It was reasonably clean; at least Wang Qiran was sure it was cleaner than his own kitchen in his rental.

Even if it wasn't perfectly clean, at most it would be a temporary closure for rectification, not a complete ruin.

"Officers."

Quite a few people had arrived, a whole squad. The leading captain jogged over quickly, saluted them, and then signaled his officers. They apprehended everyone present, including the proprietress.

Their demeanor was as if a serious crime had just occurred.

"As we were arriving, we had investigated some records. This establishment has received numerous complaints, and it's rumored that some illegal business is conducted here. We will be taking everyone in for questioning. Thank you, gentlemen."

After everyone was escorted away, the young captain returned to them and saluted again. "Later, our precinct will award you gentlemen a banner to commend your actions."

How strange.

Wang Qiran became even more bewildered.

There was even a banner for something like this?

He couldn't help but size up the young captain. As the captain spoke, his gaze occasionally flickered towards Dongfang Jingjing.

Ah, so that's how it is.

He suddenly understood.

It turned out that the captain was speaking this way purely out of respect for Dongfang Jingjing.

It was no surprise that the police arrived so quickly; it must have had something to do with Dongfang Jingjing.

Otherwise, following normal procedures, it would have taken at least ten to twenty minutes, or even longer depending on the distance.

This speed made it hard not to suspect that they had been waiting in the vicinity all along.

"Alright, thank you for your trouble."

Dongfang Jingjing, feeling nothing in particular, simply thanked the captain.
