Chu Chenyi simply nodded faintly, not giving Fan Shun a second glance.
"Lord Fan, this general has important matters to discuss with His Highness. You may leave first."
"Then this subordinate will take his leave. If Your Highness requires anything, please do not hesitate to instruct me."
Fan Shun uttered a few more fawning words before dragging his portly frame away.
"Someone like him can be a city guard? When the enemy attacks, can he even get on a horse?"
Chu Chenyi's voice was filled with disdain. He truly doubted if Fan Shun could even fit on a horse, let alone ride one.
Ling Mohan shook his head, indicating he knew nothing. He wasn't sure if Fan Shun could get on a horse, but he knew Fan Shun's life would soon be forfeit.
"First, to the post station."
Fan Shun had eyes and ears everywhere in Cloud City. Only the people at the post station had been cleared out by him. The place was guarded by black-armored soldiers inside and out, making it the safest location.
...
"When did he arrive?" Feng Jin asked the man beside her, her face grim, looking at Chu Chenyi who was devouring his food.
"Today."
Ling Mohan's tone was casual, his attention solely on the congee in his bowl.
"The way you're staring at me will seriously affect my appetite," Chu Chenyi complained. Anyone would lose their appetite being stared at while eating.
"You still have the audacity to say you can't eat..." Feng Jin rolled her eyes and kindly reminded him, "This fish is down to its tail because of you. This chicken is half gone, and so is the roasted lamb..."
Of the full table of dishes, Chu Chenyi alone had eaten more than half. This was his idea of "can't eat" and "no appetite."
If he had no appetite, then she would have anorexia.
"That's because I was worried about your safety, traveling day and night without food or water. All this is for you, which is why I'm like this. Now you're giving me the cold shoulder for eating some of your food. You've broken my heart."
Feng Jin shivered, goosebumps rising all over her body. She quickly waved her hand, "Alright, just shut your mouth!"
If he continued speaking, she would truly be disgusted to death by Chu Chenyi.
"Tell me what you want to eat, and consider it repayment for saving me from afar."
She didn't want to owe anyone a favor, especially not Chu Chenyi. If he got hold of this, he would pester her endlessly.
"If you would just stop scheming against me in the future, I'd be eternally grateful."
He dared not let Feng Jin repay him. As long as she could be more considerate and merciful in the future, and give Lin Yuwei fewer nonsensical suggestions, he would be immensely thankful.
"What you're saying is really unfair. When have I ever schemed against you? In my dealings, I believe in honesty. I would absolutely never do something like deliberately playing dirty tricks behind someone's back."
Feng Jin thought hard but couldn't recall ever scheming against Chu Chenyi. She truly didn't realize his misunderstanding of her ran so deep.
"If it weren't for you, Lin Yuwei wouldn't have been arguing with me all this time and still refuses to return to the manor!"
Speaking of this matter, Chu Chenyi was furious. It was all due to Feng Jin instigating Lin Yuwei behind her back. Otherwise, with Lin Yuwei's temperament, she would never have gone this far.
He had humbly visited the Marquis of Pingyang's manor several times, and in the end, he had simply stayed there, only to be met with a closed door.
He didn't know why Lin Yuwei's resolve was so strong this time. She was completely unyielding, and he was at a loss.
Upon receiving Ling Mohan's pigeon post, he had rushed to Cloud City with his troops, not even having time to bid farewell to Lin Yuwei, only sending a servant to inform her.
He had a premonition that once they returned to the capital, Lin Yuwei would use this as an excuse to have a few days of arguments with him.
Only with Feng Jin supporting her behind the scenes did Lin Yuwei dare to openly oppose him.
"If she's arguing with you, it's definitely because of you. You should reflect on where you went wrong, instead of complaining and blaming others. Even worse, you're blaming me for instigating it."
Feng Jin was displeased. Although she had offered many constructive suggestions on this matter, there was no instigation. Chu Chenyi was talking nonsense all day, always trying to tarnish her reputation, which was truly too much.
However, considering Chu Chenyi had rushed to Cloud City day and night to rescue them, she could offer him a small piece of advice.
"Actually, it's not impossible for you to make Lin Yuwei willingly return to the manor with you."
"Say it, what method!"
Chu Chenyi immediately perked up, his tone slightly agitated as he inquired.
"Whisper it in my ear."
Then, Chu Chenyi obediently leaned in with his ear.
Feng Jin whispered a few words into his ear, then stood up, "Do you understand?"
"Are you sure it will work?"
"Of course, it will work. Girls are all about these little thoughts. As long as you grasp them, everything will be fine."
As a woman herself, she naturally knew what women's hearts desired.
As long as you understand their psychology, it's easy to control them.
"As long as you do as I say, I guarantee Lin Yuwei will forgive you!"
Feng Jin said confidently. She could handle these small matters. Since she had the ability to persuade Lin Yuwei to divorce Chu Chenyi, she naturally had a way to persuade them to reconcile.
"You said it yourself. After returning to the capital, you will persuade Lin Yuwei to return to the manor with me."
Fearing Feng Jin would go back on her word, Chu Chenyi anxiously repeated himself.
"Don't worry!" Feng Jin patted his shoulder, telling him to put his heart at ease.
"It's time to deal with Fan Shun!"
Ling Mohan's voice, cold as ever, interrupted their conversation.
For the past few days, he had tolerated Fan Shun for a long time. If Chu Chenyi's troops hadn't arrived promptly, his few dozen men would not have been able to match Fan Shun's large army. He would have dealt with Fan Shun long ago.
"How do you plan to deal with Fan Shun? I want to see too."
Feng Jin had been cooped up in the post station for several days and hadn't gone out. Today, she was determined to go out with them.
She might as well see Fan Shun's fate, and perhaps she could even help.
"You're a woman, why are you always thinking of going out instead of staying in your room..."
"Let's go!"
Before Chu Chenyi could finish speaking, Ling Mohan behind him readily agreed.
"Good!" Feng Jin smiled and nodded in agreement. As she walked past Chu Chenyi, she couldn't resist giving him a provocative look. Then, she stepped forward and linked her arm through Ling Mohan's. He was her greatest pillar of support, and she had to hold onto him tightly, lest he run away again.
