Chapter 377 Demanding the Child

After a full day of going back and forth, the group finally returned with their hands full.

The carriage was packed to the brim, and it took several trips for the servants to unload everything.

Feng Jin frowned slightly as she looked at the room stuffed full. How could there be so much? She hadn't felt like it was this much when they were buying it, but now that it was all laid out, it truly was a substantial amount.

"Ling Wan, Chu Qing, go pick through it. Take your own things quickly, don't leave them here."

If they continued to pile things here, she wouldn't even have space to stand.

"Eldest sister-in-law, I'll move them right away."

Ling Wan busied herself, diving in and sorting through, picking out all of her belongings.

"This seems to be mine too... and this one..." Ling Wan was momentarily overwhelmed, feeling that everything was familiar, as if it were all hers, yet not quite.

She decided to pick whatever caught her eye. After a long time of picking and choosing, she finally managed to sort them out.

"Chu Qing, this one seems to be yours." Ling Wan took out a pink box from her pile. She didn't recall buying this herself, so it must be Chu Qing's.

"Second Miss, you might have misremembered. This servant doesn't recall buying this..."

Chu Qing's tone was clearly lacking in confidence, and it was true that they had bought so much that she couldn't remember everything.

To prevent the two from arguing over such trivial matters, Feng Jin stepped forward and took the pink box that no one could identify.

"Since no one wants it, then it's mine. I'll keep it here for now. If you remember who it belongs to later, you can come and ask me for it."

Ling Wan and Chu Qing tacitly agreed to Feng Jin's arrangement. They truly didn't know who it belonged to, so they went along with Feng Jin's suggestion.

"Alright, alright, you've all worked hard all day. Go get some rest. I'm going to check on Da Bao and Er Bao too."

Worried that the two little ones might cause a fuss if they were brought along, Feng Jin had specifically left them at home. Now, she wanted to see how they were doing.

After sending Ling Wan and Chu Qing away, Feng Jin got up to check on the two children.

When she reached the room, she didn't see the expected smiling faces of her treasures. The room was empty. Feng Jin's heart immediately sank.

She rushed out to look for the two children and happened to run into Nanny Lin, who was just about to enter.

"Young Madam, why are you in such a panic? What has happened?"

Seeing Feng Jin's flustered expression, Nanny Lin quickly grabbed her hand and asked.

"Nanny Lin, where are Da Bao and Er Bao? They're not in the room."

Knowing that Feng Jin was worried about this, Nanny Lin instantly breathed a sigh of relief.

"The Old Master learned that the Young Madam had returned with the young masters and personally came to take them away. Since the Young Madam wasn't in the manor, he didn't inform you."

Nanny Lin quickly explained. Feng Jin, assured that the children were safe, finally relaxed.

"It's also my oversight. I didn't immediately take the children to pay respects to their grandfather after returning. I'll go to grandfather's place now and bring the children back."

"The sky is darkening and the dew is getting heavier. This old servant will accompany the Young Madam. I can also help carry the young masters."

Feng Jin did not refuse Nanny Lin's kind offer. It was already dark, and it would be quite a handful to carry both children back alone. Having someone to help was certainly welcome.

When Feng Jin arrived, Old Master Ling was sitting on the ground, playing with Da Bao and Er Bao. He was completely unlike his usual stern self, appearing now as a kind, elderly man in his sixties.

"Grandfather..." Feng Jin called out.

Old Master Ling seemed not to have heard her, continuing to play with the two children.

This was the first time Feng Jin had been treated with such indifference, and she felt utterly awkward standing there.

She patiently called out again in a gentle tone, "Grandfather?"

Nanny Lin also chimed in from the side, "Old Master, the Young Madam is here..."

"I heard you. I'm not deaf, so you don't need to remind me here."

Old Master Ling's voice carried a hint of anger. He raised his eyes to glance at Feng Jin and spoke with slight displeasure, "So you *do* remember to come see this old man. You didn't bring the children to see me after returning home. I thought you had forgotten about this old man!"

Hearing Old Master Ling say this, Feng Jin's face flushed with embarrassment. She coughed lightly. She had indeed put this matter out of her mind, and she felt quite ashamed of Old Master Ling.

"Grandfather, it is my fault this time. I didn't bring the children to see you immediately."

"It's good that you know!" Old Master Ling snorted coldly and said grumpily, "Do you really think I missed *you*? I just missed the children..."

Thinking about this, he became filled with anger, and also at that rascal Ling Mo Han. He had been back for two days, and he hadn't even shown his face.

It was as if he completely disregarded him. As one grows old, one longs for the company of grandchildren. But here he was, having worked hard his entire life, with no one to talk to.

"Grandfather, I..."

Feng Jin tried to explain further, but Old Master Ling raised his hand and interrupted her.

"Enough, you don't need to explain. If you're willing to visit me in the future, then visit. I won't force you. But you must let me see the children every day. This is not an unreasonable request, is it?"

"Not unreasonable, not unreasonable..."

Fearing that she might anger Old Master Ling with any further words, Feng Jin quickly agreed, not daring to object in the slightest.

"Then it's settled."

"Alright, we'll do as Grandfather says."

Feng Jin was helpless. Any further opposition might lead to her being branded as unfilial.

"Then, Grandfather, I'll take Da Bao and Er Bao back now."

Upon hearing that she was going to take the children away, Old Master Ling's expression instantly darkened. He cast a displeased gaze at Feng Jin.

"Old Master, it's dark now, and the young masters need to rest. Tomorrow morning, this old servant will bring the young masters to see you, alright?"

Nanny Lin was an astute person. Having served Old Master Ling for many years, she understood his disposition and spoke eloquently, perfectly striking a chord with him.

"Very well, take them back for now. Don't forget to bring the children tomorrow morning."

There would be plenty of days ahead. He wasn't in a hurry for this moment, so he agreed to let Feng Jin take the children back first.

Having received permission, Feng Jin quickly picked up the children, fearing Old Master Ling might change his mind. After a hurried farewell, she left.

"Look at this behavior, how unbecoming. It's as if I'm fighting her for the children."
