Chapter 108: Kira exposed (ll)
Daniel’s jaw flexed as he took a slow, deliberate step closer, his tone dropping to a lethal calm that made the air in the hall feel suffocating.
"You expect me to believe," he said, each word deliberate and sharp, "that you just happened to walk into my study at that exact moment?"
Kira’s throat bobbed. Her trembling hands clutched the edge of her dress as her eyes darted helplessly between Daniel and Anna. But no one was going to save her—not this time.
Daniel’s mind was a storm, his thoughts dark and unrelenting. He had suspected her for a long time—her intrusive curiosity, the way she pried into his affairs, her subtle attempts to turn him against Anna.
And then there was that morning. The day she’d accused Anna of stealing his confidential file.
At the time, he’d dismissed it. He hadn’t wanted to create unnecessary drama in the house as it would have alerted Anna. But now, looking at Kira’s pale, shaking form, the realization hit him hard.
He had ignored every red flag. Every warning sign. ’If only I’d looked deeper back then... I would’ve known exactly what kind of snake I let stay under my roof.’
Daniel’s eyes darkened to steel as he leaned forward, voice low but cutting through the silence like a blade.
"Admit it was you," he warned softly, "or I’ll make you forget you even existed."
The threat in his tone was enough to make everyone flinch.
Mariam, standing to the side, felt her heart sink. Her face was ashen as she looked at her niece, the same girl she had forgiven even after she doubted she deserved it.
And now she regretted every ounce of mercy she’d shown.
Kira’s eyes met Mariam’s, silently pleading. ’Help me.’
But Mariam couldn’t even look at her. Her head turned away, guilt heavy in her chest.
The moment Kira saw that, her last thread of hope snapped.
She broke down, falling to her knees. "Please, Master—please forgive me! I won’t do it again! I swear on my life!"
She thought maybe submission would melt Daniel’s wrath. Maybe her tears would earn her another chance. But she couldn’t have been more wrong.
Daniel’s voice came out firm, detached, and cold enough to chill her blood.
"There is no room for liars here," he said. "And this is the second time you’ve angered my wife by calling her a liar."
Anna’s eyes widened slightly, her lips parting in disbelief.
’Wait... did he just say he’s punishing her because she angered me?’
She blinked, staring at him—unsure whether to be flattered or flustered.
Kira, on the other hand, looked horrified. Her head shot up, eyes wide, mouth gaping. "M–Master, please, I—"
Daniel didn’t even let her finish. He lifted his hand slightly. "Guards."
Two guards stepped forward immediately.
"Throw her out of the house," he ordered without hesitation. "And make sure not even her shadow touches this property again."
His words were so calm, so final, that every servant in the room felt the weight of them.
Kira’s legs went weak. "Master no! Please!" she screamed, clutching at the marble floor. "Aunt Mariam, please! Tell him I didn’t mean to—!"
But Mariam stepped back, shaking her head. Her eyes glistened with tears. "I warned you, Kira," she said quietly, her voice trembling. "I told you not to repeat your mistakes. Now there is nothing I can do"
Kira’s face twisted in disbelief. Even her own aunt was abandoning her.
As the guards reached for her, desperation twisted into rage.
"This is all because of you!" she screamed, lunging toward Anna. But before she could even get close, Daniel’s arm shot out, pulling Anna into his hold, shielding her with a grip so tight it made Kira freeze.
"Master!" Kira shrieked, her voice breaking. "This woman is dangerous. She and her family are both vicious!"
Anna’s brows furrowed, caught off guard by Kira’s outburst. The sudden shift from tears to venom was so typical of her that even now, it barely surprised her.
And then Kira said something that made the entire hall go still.
"Her mother was the one who brought that drug. She gave it to her because she wanted a grandchild!"
The room erupted in stunned silence. Every maid and butler froze mid-breath, eyes flicking between Daniel and Anna.
Daniel’s face darkened instantly, his shock evident, but it wasn’t anger at Anna. It was disbelief that Kira would stoop so low.
Anna, meanwhile, felt her face twitch with sheer irritation.
’Of course, she’d drag my mother into this mess...’
A few of the younger maids whispered behind their hands, half in shock, half in amusement at Kira’s ridiculous desperation. One even giggled softly, quickly silenced by Mariam’s glare.
Kira stared at their reactions in horror. They weren’t buying her story. They were laughing.
"No—no! Why are you smiling? She’s the real—"
"Guards," Mariam interrupted sharply, her tone icy. "Take her away."
Kira’s words died in her throat as she was seized by the arms.
"Aunty, please! Master! Madam!" she cried, thrashing as they dragged her away. "Please, I swear I didn’t mean—"
Her voice faded down the corridor until the doors slammed shut, leaving an uneasy quiet in her wake.
...
For a moment, no one moved.
Mariam’s shoulders sagged as she turned to face Daniel and Anna. Her voice broke when she spoke. "I’m so sorry, Master. I should’ve seen it coming. I should’ve stopped her when I had the chance..."
Tears welled in her eyes. The shame of Kira’s actions weighed heavily on her.
Anna quickly stepped forward, concern softening her features. "Mariam, don’t blame yourself," she said gently. "You didn’t do anything wrong. Some people no matter how much love or guidance they get still choose the wrong path."
Mariam blinked, surprised by the kindness in Anna’s tone.
Most of the staff exchanged quiet looks. They had rarely seen their Madam interact with them like this and always assuming she preferred distance. But now, hearing her speak up for Mariam, they felt a flicker of warmth and respect.
"Madam..." Mariam’s voice wavered.
Daniel stepped in beside his wife, his tone steady but reassuring. "She’s right, Mariam. You’ve been nothing but loyal. Don’t let her betrayal make you doubt that."
He paused, his expression softening slightly. "If you were disloyal, you would’ve protected her. But you didn’t. That’s proof enough for me."
Mariam shook her head, tears finally spilling down her cheeks. "That doesn’t change what she did. I’ve lost face, Master. The entire household—"
"No," Anna interrupted firmly. "You haven’t lost anything. If anyone here doubts your loyalty, they’ll have to answer to me."
Her voice carried quiet authority, and the servants standing nearby straightened instinctively.
Daniel’s gaze lingered on her for a moment, admiration flickering behind the stoic mask. She indeed spoke like the lady of the house that instantly swell his heart in warmth.
Anna might have started the morning ready to scold Kira, but now she stood there, calm, composed, defending those who had earned her trust.
For a brief second, Daniel felt that same unshakable pull toward her again, the one he’d been trying to ignore since the night before.
Mariam bowed deeply, voice trembling with gratitude. "Thank you, Madam... Master."
As she stepped back, Daniel and Anna exchanged one last look.
"You all can leave now" he said and quickly everyone started to vacant the space.
But the moment Anna tried to sneak away, his hand pulled her back.
"Where do you think you are going Wifey"
