This was Akame's final battle.
After Tatsumi's heroic sacrifice, Esdeath also arrived at the scene.
Esdeath believed Tatsumi's death was merely due to his weakness, concluding he was nothing special after all. Yet, her heart felt an unusual unease.
At that moment, a large group of revolutionists charged at Esdeath. With a mere wave of her hand, she erected several ice walls, freezing all the revolutionists present and surrounding the area.
Though the Empire had lost, it didn't mean Esdeath had. As long as she lived, the hunt would continue.
If there was no war, she would create one herself. Akame could not allow such a sinner, who sowed the seeds of war, to live. This would be Akame's final mission: to slay Esdeath.
The battle between the two was imminent. Although the battle-hardened Akame's swordsmanship surpassed Esdeath's, she couldn't overcome Esdeath's superior troop control. Akame seized an opportunity and slashed at Esdeath's defense, but Esdeath, in turn, conjured a weapon to block.
To Esdeath, the lives of others were hers to trample. The weak should yield to the strong. She then unleashed a giant ice cone towards Akame. Although Akame shattered the cone, she was kicked to the ground by Esdeath, followed by an ice ball.
Akame was flung back, and Esdeath seized the moment of her dodge to kick her to the ground again, incapacitating her.
Akame knew that to defeat Esdeath, she had to unleash her trump card. She brought her sword to her neck and sliced it open. The curse poison carried by Murasame immediately spread from the wound throughout her body. Curse marks began to appear on Akame's skin, and her eyes filled with incantations. This was Akame's ultimate technique.
The sinners slain by the demonized Akame were all remembered by Murasame. Resentment, anger, sighs, and sorrow all made her stronger, and she could bear all these emotions, shouldering the heavy burden.
Akame, radiating demonic energy, charged at Esdeath once more. In this form, Akame's combat power surged drastically, instantly forcing Esdeath into a difficult position, compelled to reluctantly parry Akame's slashes. Enraged, Esdeath immediately forged ice cones and hurled them at Akame, but Akame countered with a swift slash, nullifying them.
The two continued their fierce engagement on the cracking ice. Even with the advantage of her ice abilities, Esdeath was no match for Akame. With one strike, Akame knocked Esdeath down. Esdeath struggled to block Akame's thrust with ice, but Akame still pierced through and wounded her arm.
To prevent the poison from spreading throughout her body, Esdeath made a decisive move and severed her own arm. However, Esdeath didn't feel fear; instead, she grew more excited, relishing the thrill of a life-or-death struggle.
The two engaged in intense combat again. Esdeath used her flowing blood to obscure Akame's vision, then kicked her flying.
Esdeath pressed her advantage, unleashing continuous ice-based combat techniques. For a time, the two were locked in a fierce, evenly matched struggle.
But Akame knew she couldn't maintain her demonic state for long; she had to land a killing blow with her next attack.
Akame attacked Esdeath with high speed. Just as she saw an opening and prepared to stab Esdeath, Esdeath unleashed her trump card: freezing time to allow herself to execute her finishing move. Esdeath had to acknowledge Akame's strength and conjured an ice blade, thrusting it at Akame. To Esdeath's surprise, it was only an afterimage of Akame.
So, where had the real Akame gone?
As the temporal freeze ended, Akame descended from the air and delivered a final blow, ending Esdeath.
Ever since Esdeath had used her Imperial Arm, "Stone Teigu," to kill Susanoo, Akame had been contemplating countermeasures.
The afterimage Esdeath had seen earlier was a concentration of killing intent, a void born from Esdeath's arrogance in her pursuit of the hunt.
Esdeath admitted her defeat but still couldn't comprehend Akame's ideology.
As the curse poison spread through her body, she would calmly experience death.
Esdeath slowly walked towards Tatsumi and used her last strength to erect an ice wall, blocking Akame.
Esdeath embraced Tatsumi's corpse. Since they could not be together in this world, they would reunite in the next.
In the next moment, Esdeath encased herself and Tatsumi in ice, dissipating into the air.
Meanwhile, the Minister, who knew the tide had turned, was attempting to escape through a secret passage but was found by Leone, who had been revived.
Although the Minister appeared to have no combat ability, he possessed his own trump card: his Imperial Arm. In an instant, he destroyed Leone's Imperial Arm, then drew a pistol and shot Leone in the abdomen.
Having lost her Imperial Arm, Leone had no ability to recover. Yet, she endured the pain and smashed her fist into the treacherous Minister. The Minister then fired several more shots at Leone, but this did not break Leone's will. Her successive punches beat the root of the Empire's corruption to death with her bare hands.
Thus, the revolution ended completely, and Night Raid disbanded. Leone embraced Akame, bidding her a final farewell, and then returned to the slums where she was born. The streets were filled with laughter and celebration of the revolution's success. Leone simply watched from the side, content that her actions had been worthwhile.
Leone, riddled with bullets, was merely clinging to consciousness and tragically died in an unknown back alley.
The next morning, Najenda personally brought the Emperor to the execution platform. In his final moments, the Emperor seemed to realize his mistakes. He only hoped Najenda would establish a peaceful nation free from bloodshed, and then met his death with resignation.
After the war, Will and Lan joined in the construction of the new nation, contributing to a world of peace and prosperity.
In the remote border regions, Tatsumi's hometown received aid from the new nation. The villagers knew this must be the credit of the three heroes and looked forward to their return.
The Imperial Capital, under Najenda's leadership, was steadily rebuilt, gradually erasing the scars of war. Najenda bid Akame a final farewell, intending to dedicate her remaining life to the foundational construction of the new nation.
Their journey had been filled with hardship and pain. Only two members of Night Raid remained with limited time, but both understood it was worth it; the sacrifices of their comrades were not in vain.
In these final moments, Akame once again took responsibility for all the disgraceful actions of the revolutionary army, shouldering everyone's burdens and departing to a distant land with Tatsumi's memento.
