Chapter 147: Chapter 147: I Want to Hold You and Soothe You
Before leaving, Silas Joyce went to settle the bill, but the waiter only let him pay half; the other half was already paid by someone.
Silas Joyce’s face darkened; who else could have done this? Besides that scoundrel Leon Keane, Silas didn’t think there was another candidate.
Silas took out his card and paid the remaining half, leaving the restaurant with a grim face.
As Silas left.
Ivana Monroe pushed Leon Keane away: "Are you satisfied now?"
Seeing the ridicule on Ivana’s face, Leon frowned. Was she blaming him?
Maybe it was the alcohol, but as Ivana left Leon’s embrace, her body swayed a bit. Seeing she couldn’t stand steady, Leon reached out to support her.
Leon didn’t argue with the drunk woman.
He said, "I’ll take you home."
Ivana brushed his hand away, possibly influenced by the alcohol, her temper suddenly flared: "I don’t need you to take me home. Aren’t you here with your special someone? Go take her home!"
Someone special?
Leon didn’t catch on immediately: "What special someone? I came here specifically to find you."
Ivana inwardly wanted to laugh, came specifically to find her? If she hadn’t seen him with Kiki Jennings, celebrating Kiki’s birthday and singing a romantic birthday song, she might have believed him.
Ivana sarcastically laughed: "Really? Leon Keane, am I a fool in your eyes?"
Leon’s handsome face darkened; there was more to her words: "Ivana, what are you trying to say? Say it clearly."
Ivana held her forehead, feeling dizzy; the wine seemed to kick in, and she didn’t want to continue entangling with Leon; it was meaningless.
Ivana ignored Leon, her blurred drunken eyes searching for the waiter, saying to him: "The bill, please."
The waiter, meeting Ivana’s gaze, approached with a professional smile and said, "A gentleman has already paid your bill."
The cashier had informed the waiter of this, and he relayed it to Ivana, not knowing that the gentleman who paid was right before him.
Ivana mistakenly thought Silas had paid the bill.
She felt somewhat guilty, as she intended to treat Silas, but now it turned out Silas treated her. Not only that, the meal didn’t go well, and Silas left with a stomach full of anger because of Leon.
Leon is a bastard, just a scumbag.
Ivana didn’t want to talk with this bastard, scumbag Leon anymore, and she shoved him aside and headed out of the restaurant.
Leon sensed she was angry but had no idea what she was angry about. Was it just because of Silas? But the last thing she said seemed unrelated to Silas.
What did he do to upset her?
Leon couldn’t figure it out. As he watched her walk in a zigzag, he quickly caught up to support her.
Ivana pushed him away.
He simply put his arm around her waist, leaning close to her ear, saying in a low voice: "Don’t make a scene. You’re walking unsteadily. Aren’t you afraid of being laughed at by the people in the restaurant?"
Ivana pursed her lips. Being laughed at by others was better than being held by him.
Leon continued: "I’ll take you home first. If you want to make a fuss, do it at home. Making a scene outside embarrasses not only you but me as well. You wouldn’t want to make headlines tomorrow, showing you making a fuss, and me holding and coaxing you, would you?"
Ivana’s slightly flushed cheeks turned crimson instantly, and she bit her teeth: "Who wants you to hold me? Coax me?"
Seeing her flushed face, as red as an apple, Leon’s dark eyes flickered. He very much wanted to take a bite and taste her wonderful flavor.
Leon couldn’t think of it; just thinking about it made him uncomfortable. He couldn’t touch this woman, touching her would become addicting.
He huskily said: "It’s me, I want to hold you and coax you. Is that fine?"
When Ivana heard his gentle words, she cursed him in her heart as "shameless," but surprisingly, her anger seemed to dissipate suddenly.
Ivana disliked this feeling. Even though she was dizzy, she hadn’t drunk enough to lose her consciousness; she was still sober. She was very aware that she had feelings for this man.
Just like back then with Zachary Heston, a sweet word from him could dispel all her anger.
Zachary deceived her utterly, and it wasn’t until the truth came out that Ivana saw Zachary’s true colors.
But Leon was different. She clearly saw through him, knew how insincere his words were, yet why couldn’t she control her heart?
Ivana hated herself for this.
Leon intimately held Ivana as they walked out of the restaurant.
Two girls looked at Leon’s back in surprise and said to Kiki.
"Kiki, that’s Leon Keane, isn’t it? Didn’t he leave early, citing work obligations? Why is he holding another woman?"
"Exactly! And, Kiki, did you see how tightly he’s holding that woman? They seem very close."
After the initial shock, the two girls were consumed with jealousy. They turned to look at Kiki and were startled to see her biting her lip, her face shadowed with anger, yet somehow it eased their jealousy, even adding a bit of schadenfreude.
What was there to be jealous of? The one who should be most envious was indeed Kiki.
They even felt like laughing; Kiki guarded her dear Leon like a treasure, even wary of her two good friends, yet now another woman had taken her place with Leon.
With Kiki making such a fool of herself, how could they not feel a bit happy?
After all, they were just fair-weather friends, and Kiki had never treated them as true friends, real bosom buddies. They weren’t foolish and wouldn’t be genuinely kind to Kiki either.
"So what? I’ve known about her for a long time; she’s Leon’s social companion. Leon is a man with ambitions; he needs a socialite like Ivana Monroe in certain circles outside."
"A socialite, you know, right? For Leon’s business, she can be touched by other men and might even sleep with them. Leon is merely playing along, using her beauty and body for profit, nothing more."
Kiki acted utterly indifferent, understanding and mature; seeing the skeptical look from the two girls, she added with a smile: "If you two plan to marry into a wealthy family a bit below Leon, you’d better get used to your man playing around outside because that’s high society life."
The two girl classmates didn’t openly refute Kiki, though inwardly they sneered. What did she mean by saying they wanted to marry into a family lesser than Leon’s? It was an implication that whoever they marry would be inferior to her beloved Leon.
What nonsense!
There’s no telling who Leon will marry in the end, yet Kiki’s here making up stories for herself. She’s delusional!
The two girls didn’t expose her, deciding to wait and watch Kiki’s future embarrassments.
