Chapter 185: A Guilty Conscience

Chapter 185: Chapter 185: A Guilty Conscience

All eyes, like spotlights, were all focused on Michelle Monroe, especially Adelaide Monroe, who was so infuriated by Michelle that she laughed. Good grief, this little wretch is acting again? If Ivana hadn’t seen through her, she’d really have thought that her slap could cause Michelle to suffer internal injuries and vomit so much blood!

"I had eaten some tomatoes when I came, so my mouth tasted like tomatoes."

Michelle Monroe forcefully argued in her own defense.

"You really ate tomatoes, huh? Perfect, there are professional medical staff here. Why not let them determine whether what you vomited is blood or tomato ketchup?"

Ivana Monroe stood up and said with a cold laugh.

Seeing this, Michelle’s eyes flashed with panic, and her fingers involuntarily clenched tightly.

Jean Shaw suddenly released Michelle and viciously lunged at Ivana: "You unruly little wretch, don’t think you can insult my Michelle like this..."

When Jean Shaw lunged, her eyes were fixed on Ivana’s fingers, and the direction she reached for was aimed at Ivana’s fingers.

Trying to destroy evidence?

Ivana hid her fingers behind her back, and Jean Shaw made a miss, refusing to give up. She grabbed Ivana’s arm, fingers cruelly pinching her flesh, trying to yank out her hidden fingers.

"A guilty conscience, hitting people now?" Adelaide Monroe jumped out angrily to help Ivana.

This time, she suddenly understood that Michelle was vomiting fake blood, meaning the scheme to frame her was orchestrated by Jean Shaw and her daughter.

Why target her specifically?

Adelaide understood very well—it was because she had given birth to the Monroe family’s only male heir. Jean Shaw and her sly and vicious daughter feared that her son Lucas would claim more of the father’s inheritance.

With Adelaide’s involvement, Jean Shaw quickly released Ivana and started brawling with Adelaide.

The male medical staff saw this and tried to intervene but were caught innocently in the crossfire by Jean Shaw and Adelaide. The timid female nurse didn’t dare step forward. These two women, whose combined age almost reaches a hundred, were fighting too crazily.

Julian Monroe looked toward Kimberly Monroe and Sylvia Monroe, the two sisters watching calmly.

Julian was furious at how heartless the two were. The Monroe family had raised them, yet they didn’t help when they saw their second sister-in-law being attacked by Jean Shaw.

Kimberly and Sylvia rolled their eyes at Julian. Aren’t you Adelaide’s husband too? Why aren’t you charging in to help beat Jean Shaw?

Sure, Jean Shaw and Michelle tried to deceive everyone with the "tomato blood." It’s shameful. But now that it’s a real brawl, if Jean Shaw gets hurt, what will she demand from us?

They came here to claim the father’s inheritance, not to stir up trouble. Moreover, earlier they sided with Jean Shaw against Ivana; if they switched to Adelaide’s side now and beat Jean Shaw, what would Ivana think of them?

"Stop it, both of you, just stop fighting." Julian, seeing his sisters were no help, had no choice but to step in.

Michelle Monroe lowered her head, secretly wiping away the "tomato blood" from the ground with her clothes. These were "props" used in film, diluted tomato ketchup that looked like fresh blood when seen suddenly. She bit open the blood bag in her mouth and spat it out, still worrying. No one had yet discovered it was fake, and Michelle was secretly pleased, thinking she’d passed unnoticed.

But unexpectedly, that wretch Ivana saw through it.

Julian stepped in presumably to take sides. Adelaide had a lock of hair yanked out by that shrew Jean Shaw, causing her to cry out in pain, which only fueled her fury. Julian came along at such an opportune moment that she certainly wouldn’t let Jean Shaw off the hook.

Adelaide reached out viciously toward Jean Shaw’s face, promptly scratching it.

Jean Shaw was crazed: "Ah~ Adelaide Monroe, just wait, if I don’t ruin your face today, my name will be written upside down. Julian, get out of my way..."

Julian pretended to mediate but was actually siding with Adelaide. Jean Shaw suffered several defeats and realized, shaking with rage, her brain failing her as she slapped Julian’s face.

A clear slap sound.

"Second brother."

"Second brother."

Kimberly and Sylvia exclaimed in surprise.

Ivana watched the handprint appear on Julian’s face, and the anger burning in his eyes. She counted silently: one, two, three.

Slap, slap~

Julian slapped Jean Shaw twice with such force it knocked her to the ground. His anger reached its peak, and he wasn’t done yet.

He lifted his foot, kicking fiercely at Jean Shaw’s body.

"Mom~" Michelle was terrified by this scene and shouted: "Don’t hit my mom... don’t hit my mom..."

Ivana smiled coldly, turned to the stunned medical staff, and said softly: "Please, call the police."

The medical staff promptly responded "Oh" twice, pulled out their phone, and called the police.

The farce ended with the arrival of the police.

Jean Shaw and her daughter were both beaten up. Michelle fared better, but Jean Shaw’s face was not only scratched but also bruised, her body in pain. She no longer had the mindset to fight over the inheritance as she was carried onto the ambulance.

Julian regretted hitting people afterward, but there’s no medicine for regret in this world, and the police took him away directly.

Seeing this, Adelaide followed the police car, having lost her heart to stay and fight for the inheritance.

Kimberly and Sylvia stood still, not leaving.

Ivana sneered: "Aunties, the show’s over, what are you sticking around for? You might as well go! Just the two of you here, expecting to split Grandpa’s inheritance, isn’t realistic, is it?"

Kimberly and Sylvia realized that continuing to bicker with Ivana wasn’t very meaningful. Ivana refused to share, and the second brother’s family was taken away by the police, meaning they were destined to lose today.

The two forced a smile and left the Monroe family’s old house.

Outside, they began to complain.

"If we’d known Jean Shaw would go crazy and slap second brother’s face, we should’ve stopped her earlier."

"Hindsight is always twenty-twenty! But it’s also partly second brother’s fault. Why did he lose his temper and beat Jean Shaw like that? Wasn’t that bringing unnecessary trouble?"

"Exactly. By the way, who called the police? How did they arrive so quickly?"

"I think it was the medical personnel."

"Medical personnel? Why would they call the police? This is a family matter, it must’ve been someone who told them to call."

The two suddenly opened their eyes wide and spoke in unison: "Ivana Monroe."

Kimberly’s face turned pale: "Did you notice, Ivana Monroe is completely different from the Ivana we knew six years ago? Today, as soon as she arrived, it’s like she had everything under control."

Sylvia said sarcastically: "Don’t think too highly of her; it’s all just coincidence. The old man might escape one thing but not everything, property will have to be divided eventually. The old man procrastinating every day only prolongs his suffering. Ivana shouldn’t think she’s doing the old man any favors; he’ll end up being hurt by her eventually."
