Chapter 63: Chapter 63: Leon Keane Gets Jealous
The speaker was Pearl Fletcher. She and Michelle Monroe were in the same dorm during college. Because her family was relatively poor, and Michelle Monroe had the wealthiest family among their dorm mates, Pearl often flattered and tried to please Michelle.
Several years after leaving college, Pearl always kept in touch with Michelle. For various high-society events, whenever she found out about them, she would call Michelle and urge her to bring her along.
Pearl now worked as a white-collar worker, but she was not content with her current situation. She wanted to marry a rich man.
Pearl wore a pale green dress, revealing as much skin as Michelle. With brown-tinted contact lenses, she scanned the room, winking charmingly at any influential figure who cast a glance her way.
"Leon Keane has arrived."
Someone exclaimed in surprise. Pearl heard it; she was stunned, excitement bursting in her eyes, her heart racing wildly. Leon was the leader of Ravenswood’s business world, worth billions. If she could reach him...
Pearl dared not to even imagine that day. She would probably die from exhilaration and excitement.
Michelle and Pearl simultaneously fixed their gaze on Leon Keane.
Under the spotlight, Leon was in a white shirt and black trousers—a very simple outfit. However, his unparalleled handsome face became the brightest focus of the banquet.
Like a king, no matter how ordinary his attire, his imperial majesty was undeniable.
Female guests were mesmerized, feeling as if a fawn was racing in their hearts, pounding their souls into a quivering state.
Leon had a female companion on his arm, dressed in a burgundy gown. Her hair was styled up, and a mysterious black mesh concealed her smooth forehead and part of her delicate face. Her elegance and nobility took the breath of all the gentlemen present, making her seem like the most distinguished heroine of this banquet.
It seemed that Leon had not brought just a companion, but rather a distinguished Mrs. Keane.
Michelle’s pupils suddenly contracted as she gritted her teeth, "Ivana."
Pearl said incredulously, "What? Ivana? You say that the female companion Leon brought is Ivana?"
Pearl wiped her eyes, making sure she saw clearly. The Ivana she remembered was pretty, but did not have such a noble aura. Besides, Ivana couldn’t even compete with Michelle for Zachary. How could Leon, the most distinguished man in Ravenswood, be interested in a second-hand woman who had been divorced and had a child?
Ivana wasn’t even fit to carry Leon’s shoes.
"It really is Ivana." After seeing clearly, Pearl was filled with intense jealousy and dissatisfaction, speaking harshly, "Michelle, is your sister good in bed? Did she please President Kane so well that he would bring this filthy second-hand goods as a companion?"
"Probably. She’s so cheap, she can do anything despicable with great means. Leon must be blind to fall for her tricks."
Michelle’s sharp nails dug into the flesh of her palm. She trembled with rage, needing the pain to keep her mind clear to resist rushing over to slap that vile Ivana.
This vile woman ruined her happiness, personally sending her and her mother into the department to spend a terrifying night. She hated her so much!
However, the vile woman would soon die; she didn’t need to dirty her hands.
A sinister grin appeared in Michelle’s eyes.
Howard Yeats pinched the stem of his glass, the scent of red wine swirling in the goblet. His narrow phoenix eyes locked on Leon’s female companion, a flicker of astonishment crossing his gaze.
This woman was different from Leon’s previous companions. Her dress, hairstyle, and makeup seemed carefully curated to showcase her most beautiful face shrouded in mysterious black mesh. Was it to prevent other men from coveting her?
Howard’s lips curved into a devilish smile. Since Leon had recently blackballed Kritine, he wondered if it was related to this mysterious woman.
Howard reached for another glass of wine from the lavishly spread table, identical to the one in his hand, and approached Ivana, offering her the wine.
"My name is Howard Yeats. This beautiful lady, may I have the honor of offering you a drink?" As Howard approached, he noticed Ivana’s face bore subtle makeup, with flawless, delicate skin and exquisite features.
Howard was spellbound.
Before Ivana could respond, Leon snatched the wine from Howard’s hand, drank it in one go, and handed the empty glass back to Howard, saying, "You don’t have that honor."
Leon noticed Howard’s eyes were fixed on Ivana, unblinking, and he wanted to gouge out Howard’s eyes and toss them into a fish tank.
"Have you seen enough? This is my companion. If you’d like to look, please focus on your own companion." Leon blocked Howard’s vision, fully shielding Ivana.
Howard came to his senses, looking incredulously at Leon. Was he... jealous?
"Not enough. Compared to this lady, my companion is not worthy of a second glance. President Kane, don’t be so petty. Beauty is for everyone to admire. If one day, you get a new companion, I’d like to pursue this beautiful lady..."
"Howard Yeats... don’t you dare."
Leon suddenly grabbed Howard by the collar, his unparalleled handsome face radiating cold air, with a posture as if ready to fight.
"Dare not, dare not, Leon, I was joking with you, don’t take it so seriously." Howard merely wanted to test Ivana’s standing in Leon’s heart, not expecting Leon to be so sensitive, instantly flaring up.
"I don’t like this kind of joke."
Leon pushed him away, holding Ivana’s small hand, as if declaring ownership, telling her, "This man is a notorious playboy in Ravenswood. Stay away from him when you meet."
Ivana glanced at Howard, her intuition telling her that he must have a good relationship with Leon. Otherwise, he wouldn’t dare make such jokes with him.
Leon’s reaction indeed surprised Ivana a bit.
She nodded, continuing to play the part of the female companion.
"Ha... Leon Keane, is this how you introduce your good brother?" How had he never noticed Leon was so petty?
In a corner, Zachary Heston’s eyes were fixed on Ivana. From initial amazement, he now wished he could snatch her back from Leon.
He realized Ivana was becoming more and more captivating. He truly regretted that six years ago, after Ivana disappeared, he believed Michelle’s lies and proceeded with divorce procedures on the grounds of Ivana’s betrayal and disappearance with a man.
Zachary grabbed a waiter, slipped a small wad of cash into the waiter’s pocket, and whispered a few words in his ear.
The waiter nodded with joy and approached Ivana with a tray of drinks. He accidentally stumbled, spilling the drinks on Ivana. The wine-red dress and red wine met, deepening the color, emitting a strong scent of wine.
"I’m sorry, ma’am. I didn’t do it on purpose. Please forgive me." The waiter bowed repeatedly to Ivana, apologizing.
