Chapter 299: The Truth

Chapter 299: Chapter 299: The Truth

The tech department told Jack Quinn the truth.

"Director Quinn, our supervisor wants you to find a way to contact the top seven hackers nationwide, preferably the top three hackers; they might have a way to neutralize this virus."

Jack Quinn was extremely frustrated.

"The top seven, the top three hackers nationwide? Why don’t you go to Shi?"

Jack Quinn couldn’t help but curse.

Not to mention, hiring the top "seven" or "three" hackers in the nation would be exorbitantly expensive, and finding them is already very difficult.

Mount Cygnus Hospital has a lot of important data, including the special medicine developed by the research department—this kind of secret formula absolutely cannot be leaked.

Moreover, with all of Mount Cygnus Hospital’s computers down, the hospital can’t register patients, doctors can’t prescribe medicine, which means the hospital has no income. But the salaries of doctors, nurses, and other staff still need to be paid as usual. For a large private hospital like Mount Cygnus Hospital, if it’s just sitting around doing nothing, how long can it sustain?

After hanging up the phone, Jack Quinn felt very irritated.

Why?

A thought suddenly flashed through Jack Quinn’s mind—remembering Ian Keane’s cold little face. Could it be that child? He had recently said something that made him "regret," and as soon as he arrived at the office, the virus appeared.

Jack Quinn shook his head, that’s impossible, a six-year-old child who can’t even handle playing with a computer, let alone the difficult task of creating a system virus? He must be crazy to suspect a child.

It should be a rival hospital.

They spent a lot of money on hiring someone to create a virus to invade Mount Cygnus Hospital’s computers, either to steal the hospital’s secret special medicine formula or to make the hospital earn nothing in the short term.

Although it’s short-term, this is more than enough to deal a fatal blow to Mount Cygnus Hospital.

The method is brilliant!

Jack Quinn was angry, but he took out his phone, flipping through his contacts; he had made quite a few connections with noble sons and daughters from Europe during his studies abroad, which might now come in handy.

Jack Quinn made five calls, and each time, the other party readily agreed to help him find someone.

Moments later.

Sure enough, a European classmate called back, "Hi, Jack Quinn! My father knows the world’s fifth-ranked hacker. I’m giving you his number now. If you want to hire him, a word of warning—you need to prepare a hundred thousand dollars upfront. He likes the smell of money and prefers money in his pocket first."

A hundred thousand dollars—is equivalent to seven hundred thousand yuan.

This price should not be the full fee, it’s probably just the deposit.

The deposit is already expensive.

Jack Quinn asked, "How much would he charge for a single virus removal?"

"Ranging from several million to tens of millions of dollars, Jack Quinn. Your family is wealthy; don’t worry about how much you have to pay. He can solve your current problem."

Jack Quinn gasped.

Is his family’s money stolen, or did it come in floods? Several million, tens of millions of dollars—this would empty out his family’s reserves?

Jack Quinn said, "Thank you." and hung up.

Unable to decide, he called his father, Vincent Quinn.

Vincent Quinn heard, and immediately exploded, "Screw him! After all these years, our profits haven’t even reached millions of dollars. Is that foreigner a bloodsucker?"

Vincent Quinn continued, "Jack Quinn, you’re not a child anymore. Don’t panic when things happen. Hire a domestic hacker at high prices. I refuse to believe our national hackers are inferior to international ones. Foreigners are just blowing their own trumpets."

Jack Quinn gradually calmed down, "Got it, Dad."

Room 1 VIP ward.

Ian Keane came back and was playing with the computer.

Ian’s mother didn’t disturb him; she knew her grandson’s temperament and feared that saying something bad about Ivana Monroe would provoke Ian Keane.

Her precious grandson is different from other little boys. He can’t be provoked.

Ian’s mother lay there, feeling bored. Lying in bed stiffened her body, and pretending to be a patient was really uncomfortable.

Auntie Chamberlain passed by Ian Keane and glanced at his tablet. She was astonished at how the boy’s fingers flew across the touchscreen, triggering strings of unfamiliar English.

Auntie Chamberlain was stunned. As expected of a child raised abroad, his proficiency in English— even his typing—was quick.

Ian Keane suddenly stopped his finger movements, looked up at her, and said disdainfully, "Go away."

Immediately.

Auntie Chamberlain’s face flushed with embarrassment.

"Auntie Chamberlain, Ian doesn’t like being disturbed while playing on the computer. Don’t bother him. If you have nothing to do, go to the restroom and disinfect it."

Ian’s mother saw Auntie Chamberlain displeasing Ian, furrowing her brows. This Auntie Chamberlain has been with the Keane family for years. Doesn’t she know what annoys Ian the most?

When Ian plays on the computer, even she can’t stand nearby and watch.

Let alone Auntie Chamberlain, the babysitter?

Auntie Chamberlain was dying of anger. Ian’s mother was treating her as less than human, asking her to disinfect the restroom? This work is for the lowest-level cleaners; how could she do it?

"Madam, the restroom is disinfected daily by the hospital cleaners."

"The hospital cleaners also tidy up the ward. Tell me, why do I need you here?"

Auntie Chamberlain hit a wall and obediently went to the restroom, grabbing the disinfectant in the corner and forcefully squeezing it into the toilet bowl as if venting her dissatisfaction towards Ian’s mother.

Ian Keane’s fingers danced rapidly across the touchscreen’s keyboard. Moments later, a black-and-white image appeared on the computer. Ian skillfully swiped to silence it.

The black-and-white footage showed a stairwell in the hospital where Ivana Monroe and Julia Sinclair had both fallen.

Ian reversed the footage; his pupils shrank, freezing on the scene where both Ivana Monroe and Julia were on the stairs—he distinctly saw Julia pushing his mom.

Ian hit play again, his black eyes intently and coldly scrutinizing.

After a verbal clash, Ivana Monroe turned to go downstairs, a sinister gleam passed through Julia’s eyes, her mouth curling into a chilling sneer that made even Ian shiver.

Then, Julia abruptly fell and rolled to Ivana’s feet, suddenly reaching to grab Ivana’s calf, fiercely pulling her down the stairs.

That’s not the worst—there was more to come.

Seemingly about to hit her head on the corner of the stairs, Julia grabbed Ivana’s calf to shield her head.

Ian’s young heart pounded with sharp pain; a storm brewed in his dark eyes. The reality was far crueler than he imagined.

Ian saw Ivana Monroe lying on the ground with a pained expression. He felt extremely uncomfortable, his eyes reddened, then watched as Timmy ran over to kick Julia hard in the back.

Ian felt satisfaction, but thought Timmy’s kick wasn’t fierce enough, wasn’t frequent enough. He should’ve shattered Julia’s back, letting her experience the agony of broken bones like his mom did.
