Chapter 203: Chapter 203: Suspecting That I Have Superpowers_1
"This guy might be a con artist!" Su Xuan thought to himself. "A marriage scammer, at that!"
The man was just too suspicious. It’s one thing to not be able to book a suitable hotel, but there’s no need to lie about it! Considering the man himself admitted the bride’s family was providing the marital home, Su Xuan was now certain he was trying to scam the woman out of her house!
"My wedding banquet is booked for the 15th of next month," the man was still saying, putting on an act as he pretended to be on the phone. "Can you help me arrange it at your Lycar? Okay, check on it for me. I’ll stay on the line."
A few dozen seconds later, he exclaimed, "Ah? It’s all arranged? Bro, you’re awesome! Thank you so much! I’ll definitely treat you to a good drink later!"
With a joyful expression, the man hung up the phone. He then turned to the woman. "Baby, what did I tell you? One phone call was all it took."
The woman hugged the man’s arm. "Darling, you’re amazing! I had no idea you knew the owner of Lycar!"
The man playfully tapped the woman’s nose. "There’s still a lot you don’t know. Your husband here is much more capable than you think!"
At that moment, Su Xuan suddenly spoke up. "Our route happens to pass right by Lycar. Do you want to go take a look at the venue?"
The man immediately shot back, "There’s no need for that. Lycar is a five-star hotel, what’s not to trust? Besides, you’re just a Didi driver. Why are you meddling in my business instead of focusing on the road?"
"Your wedding banquet is on the 15th of next month, right?" Su Xuan said calmly. "That’s only about twenty days away. If you don’t check the venue first, what happens if the setup isn’t to your liking? It’ll be difficult to make last-minute changes. I’m just offering a friendly reminder."
"He has a point, honey! Let’s just go take a look at Lycar!" the woman said, shaking the man’s arm again.
"But... shouldn’t we look at furniture first?" the man hesitated.
This only solidified Su Xuan’s belief that the man was a con artist. Twenty-odd days was more than enough time for him to swindle the woman out of her home!
"But the driver said Lycar is on the way! I want to go see it!" the woman insisted. She then added, "I also want to take a picture there to post on my Moments. For the past few days, several of my friends have been asking me where we booked our hotel. This is the perfect chance to show off to them!"
"Look at you, being so vain," the man said, deliberately putting on a stern face. It was clear he was dead set against her visiting the venue.
"I just want to go!"
"Furniture first!"
"You don’t love me!"
"You’re not being a good girl!"
The two began to bicker in the back seat. Eventually, they both fell silent, sulking as they lowered their heads and played with their phones, ignoring each other completely.
About ten minutes later, Su Xuan suddenly stopped the car. With a mischievous look on his face, he announced, "We’ve arrived!"
"Huh?" The man put down his phone and looked up, only to be completely dumbfounded.
This wasn’t his intended destination at all!
"Hehe, you’re an awesome driver!" the woman exclaimed, her face beaming with joy.
Su Xuan hadn’t brought them to their original destination. He had brought them straight to Lycar.
"You changed the route without permission! I’m going to report you!" the man yelled at Su Xuan, his face contorted with anger.
"I’m not afraid of complaints," Su Xuan shrugged, his gaze shifting toward the hotel entrance. While in the car, he had secretly messaged Liu Ming. Everything was arranged.
"Darling, don’t be mad at the driver. He meant well. Let’s just go in and have a look!" The woman started pulling the man toward Lycar’s entrance, but he resisted, trying to drag her in the opposite direction.
Just then, Liu Ming came running out of the hotel, leading a large group of employees.
"Hello, sir!" Liu Ming said, first nodding to Su Xuan before walking up to the man and shaking his hand. "I am Liu Ming, the manager of Lycar. May I ask if you are our boss’s close friend?"
"Uh... yes," the man replied, utterly baffled. He couldn’t figure out what was happening. His phone call had been a complete sham; he hadn’t actually called anyone. How could this be happening?
Do I have superpowers? Did I somehow communicate with the owner of Lycar telepathically?
"Honey, you’re incredible! The manager himself came out to welcome us!" The woman, who had been slightly annoyed moments before, was now ecstatic.
"Please, this way. Come inside and have a look," Liu Ming said with a welcoming gesture. "We have several upscale halls that are perfect for a wedding banquet!"
"Uh..." The man was still extremely reluctant.
Liu Ming paid him no mind. He simply waved at the staff he had brought out, and they swarmed around the man, ushering him into Lycar.
"Honey, I want this hall!" After touring all the options, the woman set her sights on a mid-range ballroom.
"To host a wedding banquet in this hall, the standard fee is 3,000,000. You can pay now, and we will take care of everything for you," Liu Ming promptly informed the man.
"I was just looking today. I won’t be paying," the man said, grabbing the woman and trying to leave as soon as he heard the price.
"I’m not leaving!" The woman shook his hand off, her mood souring again. "I want to get this sorted out today. Honey, pay them now!"
"Baby, we still need to spend a lot on furniture. I think we should just leave it for today," the man said, trying to make an excuse. Where was he supposed to get 3,000,000 yuan?
"It’s no problem," Liu Ming interjected smoothly. "Since you’re such a close friend of our boss, you can just pay a deposit first."
"How much is the deposit?" the woman asked.
"500,000 will be sufficient," Liu Ming replied.
"Honey, don’t you have 500,000 on your card?" the woman asked, turning to the man. "You pay the deposit, and I’ll cover the furniture later."
"Well..." The man began to frown, seemingly weighing his options. After a long moment, he reluctantly pulled a card from his wallet and handed it to Liu Ming.
Liu Ming immediately had someone charge 500,000 to the card. When he returned it, the man’s expression was as foul as if someone had just desecrated his family’s ancestral graves.
"There. Are you happy now, baby?" he asked, patting the woman’s shoulder.
"Yes, I’m happy," the woman nodded, though her expression didn’t show much joy.
She couldn’t understand. They had to pay the hotel sooner or later, didn’t they? Why was her fiancé so unwilling?
"Can we go look at furniture now?" the man asked, pulling her toward the exit.
But after just two steps, he froze.
A man was standing a short distance ahead, a wide grin on his face.
Liu Ming and the entire contingent of Lycar employees turned and shouted in unison, "Hello, Boss!"
The man’s legs went soft. He nearly collapsed to his knees.
