Bai Ye was startled by the sudden loud noise and then looked in its direction.
It was a towering building, looking to be at least twenty stories high, and then…
Shattered!
The building seemed to have been sliced apart by something sharp, breaking into pieces and plummeting downwards.
Boom, boom, boom!
The collapsing, broken building smashed onto the ground, scattering into fragments amidst a swirl of dust.
In the blink of an eye, the twenty-story building, as if violently demolished, was reduced to a pile of rubble.
"Damn, who was that?" Bai Ye couldn't help but marvel, "So brutal?"
Bai Ye watched the building collapse, pondered for a moment, then waved at Agumon and quickly rushed towards the building.
Since he wasn't playing the role of a backseat observer anymore, he naturally headed wherever there was a fight. He would just charge in. And just as Bai Ye had worried before about too much commotion attracting others to pick up scraps, it was now Bai Ye's turn to go and do the picking up.
The building was quite a distance from Bai Ye's current location. After running for about half an hour, Bai Ye finally saw the building completely reduced to ruins.
There were remains and broken walls everywhere; the piled-up debris looked like a small mountain.
Then…
Bai Ye couldn't help but raise an eyebrow!
Chi Gui, Michael MacQuay!
Chi Gui was now a dead ghost. His body was impaled by a steel bar on the wall of a building, with at least a dozen blood holes riddled across his body. Blood continuously trickled down the wall.
And Chi Gui was not the only casualty!
Bai Ye looked up at the ruins in front of him. A man lay there, his right arm and left leg severed. His head was unnaturally twisted to one side, at an angle that no normal neck could achieve.
"Wu Ma?"
Bai Ye stepped onto the rubble, looked at the bodies, then his gaze swept past the ruins to another side, where blood dripped from a black lamppost.
Because the lamppost had been broken off, a burly man was impaled through the chest by it, hanging on it.
Bai Ye silently took out his cigarette case from his pocket, took out a cigarette, and lit it. "Looks like Situ Chi Cheng has lost it."
Bai Ye could easily deduce that the three were all killed by Situ Chi Cheng. Besides the fatal wounds, the three had numerous other injuries, clearly from sharp weapons. The wounds were narrow and thin; ten to one, they were from a sword.
Therefore, it couldn't have been Bai Lu. That woman was a firearms user, so it had to be Situ Chi Cheng.
Bai Ye couldn't help but sigh, "This Situ Chi Cheng guy is indeed ferocious."
This was fighting three against one!
And judging by the scene, Situ Chi Cheng had clearly won.
However, Bai Ye felt this was an opportunity for him. Even for Situ Chi Cheng, single-handedly killing Chou Niu, Wu Ma, and Hai Zhu would not be an easy task. This meant Situ Chi Cheng was likely injured. If so, this was the best chance to kill Situ Chi Cheng.
"But…" Bai Ye looked around. "Seems I'm late?"
All that remained were ruins and three corpses; Situ Chi Cheng was nowhere to be seen. He had likely left after the killings.
"But he probably didn't go far!" Bai Ye murmured. "The time of the building's collapse isn't necessarily the time the fight ended. And even if the fight ended then, it's only been half an hour. If Situ Chi Cheng is seriously injured, he wouldn't have gone too far."
As Bai Ye thought, he looked up at the sky. He was currently flying low in his spirit form. If he searched from the air, he should have a high chance of finding Situ Chi Cheng?
Just as Bai Ye was thinking, a flash of fire suddenly illuminated the night sky.
Bai Ye blinked. A grenade landed on the ruins.
Boom!
A deafening roar suddenly erupted, and a section of the top of the ruins collapsed, sending countless stones tumbling down.
A moment later, as the flames and black smoke gradually dissipated, several overlapping earth walls were revealed, which then slowly collapsed outwards. Bai Ye emerged from beneath the stone walls.
"Whew!" A whistle sounded. From further down the street, Bai Lu, carrying a grenade launcher, looked up at Bai Ye at the top of the ruins. "Chen Long?"
Bai Lu said, while looking around.
"This probably wasn't your doing, was it?" Bai Lu asked. "Where is that rat?"
"Good question," Bai Ye replied. "I'd like to know the answer too."
Bai Lu laughed heartily. "It seems our goals are the same. Pity we're both a bit late?"
Bai Ye nodded. "Looks like it!"
Bai Lu suddenly raised her grenade launcher and aimed it at Bai Ye. "Since we can't catch the rat, catching a dragon wouldn't be bad either."
Bai Ye was silent for a moment, then said, "Rabbit hot pot is very fresh!"
The two looked at each other, the atmosphere suddenly froze. As they both fell silent, the surroundings also quieted down, with only the sound of the night wind blowing and the rustling of debris on the ground.
Creak!
At this moment, the lamppost holding the corpse of Chou Niu made a grating sound and slowly began to tilt.
This sudden turn of events caught Bai Ye and Bai Lu's attention, and then…
With a bang!
As the lamppost crashed to the ground, it seemed to signal a declaration of war. Bai Ye and Bai Lu moved simultaneously.
Bai Lu directly aimed her grenade launcher. As the cylinder rotated, grenades were fired out one after another, tracing parabolic arcs in the air towards Bai Ye.
Boom, boom, boom!
The roars of explosions sounded continuously, and streaks of fire rose from the top of the ruins.
Suddenly, Bai Ye burst out from the black smoke. With a flick of his wrist, more than a dozen playing cards spun in the air and descended towards Bai Lu.
Bai Lu suddenly produced a riot shield. She then crouched down, retracting her body behind the riot shield.
Thwack, thwack, thwack, thwack, thwack…
The spinning playing cards embedded themselves into the riot shield but failed to penetrate it.
Bai Ye quickly leaped down from the ruins, but at this moment…
Bai Lu suddenly poked half her head out from behind the riot shield and gave a strange smile.
Bai Ye looked at Bai Lu's right hand and inwardly cursed, "Bad!"
The next instant, Bai Lu suddenly tossed an iron can into the air!
Flashbang!
A large burst of white light exploded, accompanied by a piercing noise.
Bai Ye quickly covered his eyes, but it had little effect. The blinding light still stung his eyes, causing temporary blindness. His ears buzzed, and he fell straight from mid-air.
