Chapter 90: Chapter 90: Disgusting Work (Part 2)
"Xiaoquan! What, what are you thinking about again?" Wiping the saliva from his mouth, Wang Qiang steadies himself, leaning his back against the corner wall to make his churning stomach feel more comfortable.
"I~" With a prolonged tone, Tang Xiaoquan glanced back at Wang Qiang, his eyes drifting, somewhat bewildered: "I’m considering whether we should clean up that dead body inside, after all..."
"Damn it!" Before his brother could finish, Wang Qiang straightened up from the corner as if he had been pricked, "You, you, you, your brain couldn’t have been kicked by a mule, do you know how disgusting that thing is!"
It seemed like he remembered the nauseating scene again, causing Wang Qiang’s speech to become stilted.
"Yeah! Xiao Tang, that corpse has been gutted and is beyond recognition, trying to clean it up would be... not easy!" Wu Chao agreed with a frown.
"Did you hear that, did you hear that! The body’s already rotted beyond recognition, just close the door and leave it, don’t mess around anymore~" Speaking so, Wang Qiang placed a hand on Tang Xiaoquan’s neck, attempting to pull him away.
But...
With a slight flick of his hand, Tang Xiaoquan brushed aside Wang Qiang’s right arm, ambiguously shaking his head: "For safety’s sake, I feel it’s better to clean it up a bit, after all, it’s summer now. Beyond just worrying about bugs, I’m really concerned that if the virus spreads, it’d be..."
Though it’s purely speculation, through several experiences of living beings mutating, Tang Xiaoquan genuinely felt these virus-laden dead bodies should be treated cautiously.
"I agree with Xiao Tang!" Hu Xiaodong’s deep voice emerged from behind: "We’ll be living here for a while, and I think everyone would rather not coexist with a pile of rotting meat under the same roof!"
Silent and still, with two key team members speaking up, Wu and Wang had little else to say.
However, after hearing Tang Xiaoquan’s concerns about the virus, they both realized the seriousness of the problem.
"Then..." Turning his gaze, Tang Xiaoquan feebly apologized to Du Jiancheng at the outer edge of the group: "Ah Cheng, about cooking..."
"Huh?" Momentarily hesitating, Ah Cheng seemed puzzled, but soon he understood, revealing a slight smile, stamping his not-quite-muscular chest, and said with a grin: "No problem, Brother Quan, rest assured about cooking."
After settling the lunch arrangements, Tang Xiaoquan led the group to the bathroom to find several towels.
Judging by the number of towels hanging on the robe rack, this seems to be a home for two.
Regardless of distinguishing between foot towels and face towels, both are definitely over a hundred times cleaner than that corpse in the bedroom.
Turning on the tap, cool water slid down the nozzle, making a "zizzz" sound.
Tang Xiaoquan soaked four towels thoroughly, then handed them to Wu, Wang, and Hu, while he wrapped one around his face.
Once fully armed, the group took several deep breaths. The moist towels made these survivors, accustomed to direct mouth and nose breathing, feel slightly uncomfortable.
Leaving the bathroom, the four entered a slightly smaller adjacent room, and judging by the lined cabinets, this room should store everyday items.
Considering they would inevitably get dirty with decomposed flesh during the cleanup, to avoid infection, Tang Xiaoquan suggested each person find suitable clothing to wear.
After all, their original clothes were left on the SUV windows, and now they were bare-chested, which was hardly decent.
Opening the cabinets one by one, they were lucky to find a lot of men’s clothing in the innermost small cabinet.
From sports socks to denim t-shirts, from shirts and vests to shorts and jerseys, they covered various summer apparel, leaving Wang Qiang, who could only afford a few cheaply bought supermarket clothes all year, staring blankly.
"Having a girlfriend really makes a guy different!" Consoling his fragile mind, Wang Qiang somewhat unhappily picked a t-shirt with a huge skull printed on it.
The remaining people also found suitable clothes, although this didn’t include the muscular Hu Xiaodong.
His bowl-sized strong arms and bulging chest muscles hindered his dressing.
Even the somewhat loose clothing looked awkward on him.
Finally, he helplessly asked Wu Chao to cut the sleeves off his shirt, separating them and wearing them as arm guards.
Once equipped and ready with all protective measures, it was time to get started.
"Everyone better prepare themselves mentally." Wu Chao once more adjusted his mask, trying to shield his nose completely.
"Let’s get to work!" Hu Xiaodong’s expression stayed sombre, revealing no trace of emotion from his stern face.
Wu Chao took a deep breath as if going into battle, reluctantly placing his hand on the doorknob, and gently twisting it to push the door open.
Almost instinctively retching, Wang Qiang’s nose under the wet towel twitched uncontrollably twice.
Not just him, even Hu Xiaodong, who kept a stoic face, couldn’t help but frown.
And for Tang Xiaoquan, who was fully involved for the first time, he began to regret his previous suggestion, because the corpse on the bed... if it could still be called a corpse!
Suppressing the churning in his stomach, Tang, Hu, Wang, and Wu each took position at a corner, grabbing the sheet under the corpse and folding it over. Once wrapped tightly, Wang Qiang opened the window and leaned close to the screen, asking, "Alright, how do we handle this thing next?"
Tang Xiaoquan pondered carefully.
Undoubtedly, disposing of the body boiled down to three options.
First, leave it in the room, which Tang Xiaoquan immediately rejected.
After all, if they kept the corpse in the room, why risk nausea cleaning it in the first place?
Second, throw it outside, but considering mosquito swarms and potentially attracting other zombies due to noise, Tang Xiaoquan also promptly dismissed this idea.
Thus, he ultimately decided on the third method: tossing it behind the rear wall.
This way, he didn’t need to worry about flies swarming the hallway, nor fear curious zombies crowding due to noise.
Two birds with one stone, why not!
