Chapter 177: Chapter 158: I won’t go, I won’t go...
Before 8:30, Mr. Gu came out of Qiao Yuxian’s room.
Lin Huai Shu hadn’t left yet.
Huang Qi noticed that Mr. Gu hadn’t come out and figured his wife was probably fine, so he went to work.
Lin Huai Shu quickly asked him, "How’s your little sister-in-law?"
Mr. Gu said, "Much better."
"Didn’t she seem okay when we got back? How did she suddenly have a fever?" Lin Huai Shu asked.
Mr. Gu didn’t answer that, instead he asked, "Why are you still here?"
"Old Lin went to the company, so I’m hiding here," Lin Huai Shu stood by the door of Mr. Gu’s bedroom, not going inside, "He’ll never guess I’m hiding here. At most, he’ll go to Jingyu Garden to find me."
Mr. Gu glanced at him.
Lin Huai Shu complained, "At my prime age, they’re rushing me to find a girlfriend. It’s almost the New Year. People from abroad and other regions are almost all back in Beijing. My mom wants me to go on a blind date again. My dad, following her orders, is searching for me everywhere."
While Mr. Gu went to the dressing room to change clothes, Lin Huai Shu stayed at the bedroom door, raising his voice, "What’s worse, Lu Mengyi said she’s returning to the country before the New Year, and my mom also wants me to meet her."
Mr. Gu didn’t say a word in the dressing room.
Lin Huai Shu continued, "These two are practically obsessed. As if I can’t find a wife. They even have Lu Mengyi in mind. Everybody knows that Lu Mengyi only has eyes and heart for you. Sending me over is just her excuse to inquire about you."
Lost in his complaints, Lin Huai Shu didn’t hear the soft footsteps approaching from outside: "Talking about it, Lu Mengyi has been away for quite a while. When she left, you were single. You even took her to the airport. Now she’s back and you’re married. I wonder if Miss Lu would cry in despair late at night. You, too, she asked you to see her off at the airport, you could have just agreed. Yet you refused, not even giving her a perfect ending."
As soon as he finished speaking, Mr. Gu came out of the dressing room, looking at him.
It was meant to shut him up.
Unexpectedly, when he looked at him, he saw Qiao Yuxian standing right behind him.
Mr. Gu’s brow furrowed.
Lin Huai Shu glanced at Mr. Gu and sensed someone behind him.
He turned around and met Qiao Yuxian’s gaze, utterly startled as if his soul had jumped way up high, stumbling back a bit and hitting the door frame: "Li... little sister-in-law."
Qiao Yuxian smiled at him with her eyes.
A simple smile sent chills down Lin Huai Shu’s spine.
Mr. Gu quickly stepped in, looking at her and asking, "Why did you come out?"
She had changed into her clothes to eat, and upon opening the door, she overheard Lin Huai Shu’s chatter.
Qiao Yuxian looked at Lin Huai Shu and then at Mr. Gu, still wearing a gentle smile, her voice soft and playful: "Came out to hear about Lu Mengyi."
Mr. Gu’s eyelashes fluttered slightly.
Lin Huai Shu’s lips trembled: "Little sister-in-law, you heard wrong. I said, I meant the tape recorder."
Qiao Yuxian gave him another glance, then looked at Mr. Gu. She blinked innocently, "Who’s Lu Mengyi?"
Mr. Gu looked at her but said nothing.
Qiao Yuxian continued, "Oh~~ I remember, she’s that childhood friend."
As she spoke, Lin Huai Shu’s heart leapt to his throat.
He wished he could slap himself twice. Why couldn’t he control his mouth?
"Is the childhood friend coming back?" Qiao Yuxian gazed at Mr. Gu.
Mr. Gu looked back at her, seeing the gentle, mocking smile in her eyes but still didn’t speak.
His silence led Qiao Yuxian to stare back at him for a while and then angrily snort: "Hmph!"
After snorting, she took two steps forward, then turned back, feeling her previous snort was inadequate. She gave a more fierce and angry snort: "Hmph!!!"
Then headed downstairs.
Passing by Lin Huai Shu, she gave him a glare.
Lin Huai Shu wore an apologetic face.
Mr. Gu immediately went after Qiao Yuxian, giving Lin Huai Shu a quick look in passing.
That look made Lin Huai Shu feel as if Mr. Gu wanted to cut his throat with a glance.
He bowed deeply out of genuine apology—he never meant it, he just wanted to vent about his parents.
Mr. Gu caught up to Qiao Yuxian, holding her hand: "Where are you going?"
"To eat," Qiao Yuxian replied in a playful, slightly unhappy tone, "it’s not the season for green plums, so I’ll just eat something, as if I’m having green plums."
Mr. Gu said, "There’s no season with green plums, there never is."
Qiao Yuxian raised her eyebrow, squinting at him: "Mr. Gu, you’re nervous, you’re guilty."
Mr. Gu: "......"
"Hmph, I don’t care, I want to eat now." Qiao Yuxian insisted, marching downstairs.
Mr. Gu caught her again.
Qiao Yuxian looked at him.
Mr. Gu said, "Don’t eat. We’re going to the hospital in a bit."
"For what?" Qiao Yuxian wondered.
"To check why you’ve had frequent fevers," Mr. Gu replied.
Qiao Yuxian paused for two seconds: "Don’t slander my body strength; when have I had frequent fevers?"
"Let’s just check, then come back," Mr. Gu said.
"No," Qiao Yuxian straightforwardly refused.
Mr. Gu looked at her.
Qiao Yuxian looked back at him.
They stared at each other, and after a few seconds, Qiao Yuxian felt her stance wavering. She crossed her arms, tilted her chin up, and even stood on tiptoe to try to gain some ground due to the height difference.
Mr. Gu watched her fierce little expression, bent down, and picked her up horizontally.
Qiao Yuxian kicked her legs, struggling: "What are you doing! Put me down, I didn’t say you could carry me, you’re breaking the rules. I won’t go, I won’t go, I won’t go..."
Mr. Gu said nothing and directly carried her to her dressing room.
Lin Huai Shu watched them pass by him again.
Still shaken, he realized they had moved on to another topic.
Qiao Yuxian continued to shout in the dressing room, "I won’t go, I won’t go, I won’t go."
Mr. Gu, seemingly deaf, said, "Change yourself or let me do it."
Arms crossed, Qiao Yuxian stared at him without speaking or moving.
Mr. Gu stepped closer and undid a button of her clothes.
Seeing he was serious, Qiao Yuxian quickly clutched her collar, shouting, "Help! He’s being a hooligan! Abducting a maiden!"
Mr. Gu paused his hand.
Qiao Yuxian lingered eye contact for two seconds, then threw herself into his arms, her head against his chest, charming in her softness, pitifully saying, "Mr. Gu, I don’t want to go. I really don’t want to go. I’m fine now, all better."
"The check-up will be quick," Mr. Gu said.
"I don’t want to go," Qiao Yuxian whined.
"No." Mr. Gu refused mercilessly.
Seeing that softness didn’t work, Qiao Yuxian withdrew from his embrace, a cold look settling over her face as she opened the wardrobe to find clothes.
Mr. Gu left.
Then... from Fenglin Villa to the hospital, Qiao Yuxian kept repeating in Mr. Gu’s ear: "I don’t want to go... I’m so hungry... I’m so hungry..."
These phrases were repeated back and forth.
At the hospital for the check-up, she still found time to continue her chant.
Today, Meng Yan was driving, seeing a new level of his Mr. Gu’s patience.
Not a hint of annoyance, even seemingly in a good mood. He worried about her getting a dry throat and handed her water.
With just about anyone else, after two repeats, his Mr. Gu would have told them to get lost, right?
