Chapter 591: +Chapter 591+

"I’m really not," Lake said calmly, not wanting Davian to get more worked up than he already was. He was still uncomfortably warm however, so even as he spoke, his fingers got busy taking off the soaked shirt he still had on.

Davian swiftly came over to help, his brows furrowed. "I’m calling Doctor Perez."

Lake just shimmied out of his pajama bottoms, his hair sticking to his face. "Yeah, sure, do that," He mumbled absently, already making his way to the shower.

Davian only left the bathroom to retrieve his phone and then he returned, ringing up the physician while pacing the length of the bathroom, his gaze frequently drifting to the shower which was still running.

When Lake stepped out of the bathroom, his face was flushed, but he smiled easily, bundled up in a towel. "I feel so much more better."

Davian frowned, approaching him. "You showered in cold water?"

Lake just walked past him, "I’ll put on a sweater," He promised, going to get dressed up.

"Doctor Perez is on the way," Davian stuck right to him, "Maybe I should have him move into the mansion."

Lake just dried off leisurely, he didn’t see the need for the doctor to be so close by at all times when he was just shy of twenty-two weeks, but he had a feeling that he wouldn’t be able to chnage Davian’s mind after it was set.

"Whatever you think is best, baby." He muttered, greedily reaching for Davian’s shirt instead of the sweater he promised to wear.

They had their own rooms, but his mate’s clothes often ended up in his wardrobe. Lake didn’t remember taking so many of Davian’s dress shirts, he had a feeling his Alpha was the one sneaking them in.

It also didn’t matter what he wore because he knew that Davian wouldn’t be too happy with him going in to work today, and honestly, Lake was feeling a little drained, he would welcome the day off.

"Are you hungry? What do you want to eat?" Davian hovered behind him, like he would prefer to be the one picking out his clothes instead.

Lake thought about it, "Maybe after Doctor Perez gives me a check up," He wasn’t nauseous, but he wasn’t particularly hungry. He could wait until the doctor got here.

After he got dressed in his nightwear which consisted of his mate’s dress shirt and comfortable cotton pajama bottoms, he turned to find Davian still in his room, intently watching him.

Lake placed a hand on his waist, "It’ll take the doctor a bit to get here, you should go clean up before he gets here." He tried to suggest, already knowing the response he would get.

"Sure," Davian agreed easily, much to his surprise.

"Really?" Lake blurted out, light brown eyes wide.

Davian was already walking towards the door, but it was the wrong one. He opened the entrance door to Lake’s room to reveal a very worried-looking Rosie on the other side.

"I already got Rosie to keep an eye on you while I clean up." He said self-satisfactorily, only heading for his room after letting Rosie in.

"Lake, are you alright?" His secretary immediately beelined to him, worry spilling out of her eyes.

Lake let her take his hands and guide him to the bed. He had more patience for Rosie because he knew that it would be easy to convince her that it was nothing serious.

"Yes, I’m fine. I just had a brief hot flash spell this morning, and Davian is somehow convinced that the baby and I are in danger." He grumbled.

There was instant relief in Rosie’s eyes at his words, and Lake didn’t want to find out what Davian had told her.

"Maybe you should take more days off work, what with the High Council and everything that happened since you had to cut your honeymoon short." Rosie patted his hand gently, but her expression was firm.

If he didn’t take some days off work, she would make him.

Lake really didn’t want to get into a standoff with them both, he hoped that the doctor’s words would be more trustworthy than his.

He was also not completely against taking some days out of the week off work, he had honestly been neglecting his health, he needed to pick up some form of exercise.

There was a fully outfitted gym in the mansion, Davian used it often. And so as not to do anything wrong, he could even get a personal trainer.

He could ask Doctor Perez for recommendations and let his husband make the decision. He honestly didn’t care who the trainer turned out to be, as long as they knew what they were doing.

"Rosie?" He abruptly changed the conversation, other pressing matters on his mind. "Do I look fat?"

There was mild panic in Rosie’s face as she appraised him. Davian’s shirt covered most of his body, so there was little to see. "I don’t..."

Before she could get all her words out, Lake retrieved his hands from her grasp to lift the hem of the oversized shift he had on, showing off his round stomach.

Now, Rosie’s panic was more evident, she looked around anxiously, like she hoped that Davian would come to her rescue.

Lake already got the answer he wanted from her reaction, but he still patiently waited for an answer.

"You... You look great," Rosie said with a forced grin that morphed into a grimace.

Lake dropped the hem of his shirt, starting to realize that Rosie might have misunderstood him. "I don’t mind being fat," He said flatly, "I just can’t see it and Davian is hopeless."

He meant his words too, they weren’t just said to ease his panicked secretary. With the life he led before Davian crashed into him, he only ate for survival, and then worked hard enough to burn off all the calories and then some.

Plus, his mate always looked at him as if he were the only thing in the room, so asking him would be of no help.

Putting on some weight was a novelty, honestly. He was just worried that his weight gain would affect the baby - he really should take exercising serious.
