Chapter 493: Zombified Maggots ( 1 )

Based on the size, each drawer could only store at most five liters of rice. Even if all the cabinets were filled, it would not be enough to store all of her grains.

Wondering where the rest of her grains had gone, she opened the space’s information panel and checked on the granary. The moment she read the information, she was stunned.

The granary contained a total of five hundred cabinets, totaling fifty thousand drawers. Each drawer could store one type of item, weighing one hundred tons at maximum capacity.

Even with rough calculation, the amount of crops she could store in this new granary was more than the previous cylindrical silo.

Rubbing her chin, she muttered, "Did my space evolve again? But besides the shorter crop maturity period, only the granary changed."

She thought for a while before she suddenly remembered the unknown crystal she "planted" on the grassland. In a blink of an eye, she disappeared from the granary and reappeared in the grassland area.

Standing not far from the crystal, she was surprised to see that the crystals were actually growing. Not only were their sizes larger than before, the amount of the crystals also increased.

Feeling confused, she raised her head and noticed that the fog in the sky also got thinner and the light was brighter than before.

After she connected all the hints, she touched the nearest crystal and muttered, "Is this crystal able to strengthen my space?"

Feeling the warm energy seeping into her body, Jiao Lizhi’s eyes widened. She was very familiar with this energy as it was the same energy contained in the zombie’s crystal core.

While she was full of doubts and guesses, Mo Junjie was hammering a crystal inside one of the rooms in his house. After he bought the apartment, Jin Xuyan gave him the experiment tools they found before.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

With the Wen brothers’ help, he changed the master bedroom into a laboratory after he got the tools. Now, the room was safe enough for him to do some experiments using the unknown mineral he stole before.

After several attempts, the crystal finally cracked and a part of it chipped off. Using a tool, he picked up the small portion of the crystal and put it in a glass tube.

Afterward, he stored the crystal in his necklace and poured some chemical into the tube. He worked for several hours before he finally managed to turn the crystal into a black liquid.

He recorded the data and observed a drop of the black liquid under the microscope. Not long after he observed the components and things contained inside the black liquid, he narrowed his eyes and let out a chuckle.

"Interesting," he muttered with a smile.

With his interest piqued, he locked himself in his house and drowned himself in his experiment.

While everyone was starting to get back to their daily routine after the second rain, Wen Hanli was still drowning in a mountain of documents and reports when he received a call in his office.

"Hello," he said while signing a document.

"Vice Commander, this is Xie Zhou. We might need you to come personally to the west district of the fourth ring’s Area F."

Hearing the urgency of his tone, Wen Hanli frowned and said, "What’s wrong?"

"We found several corpses here. Judging from the condition, it has been at least ten days since they were killed."

"I’m on my way."

As soon as he hung up the call, Wen Hanli grabbed his weapons and left the office. Thirty minutes later, he parked his car and came out.

Seeing him, Xie Zhou saluted him and said, "Vice Commander, this way, please."

The two of them entered the building and climbed to the seventh floor. Noticing that Qin Luzi was present, he nodded at him and asked, "Comrade Qin, did you find anything?"

Qin Luzi gestured for him to enter the room and said, "You can take a look by yourself."

Feeling curious, Wen Hanli walked into the room. The moment he saw the situation inside, he frowned and covered his nose.

The rancid stench was so thick that he felt his stomach churn even after being used to the rotten stench in the air for more than three months.

The walls were stained with dried blood while the corpses were stacked up in the corner. The mutilated bodies had rotted and were infested with maggots.

He squatted near the corpses and said, "The wound was too neat. This doesn’t seem like an ordinary murder case."

"Vice Commander, we found an icebox in the kitchen," a soldier reported.

Everyone went to the kitchen to take a look. The moment the soldier opened the icebox, their expressions turned cold. Inside was spoiled boneless meat in various sizes. Judging by the size and shape, everyone could guess what meat that was.

"Have you found the owner of this place?" Wen Hanli asked.

Xie Zhou nodded and reported, "We have detained the owner, but he claimed to know nothing about this matter. This room was rented by a group of people before the second rain."

"After the rain, the owner was busy and didn’t have time to check on the tenant. We found out about this matter because Comrade Qin found the zombified maggots."

When he heard this, Wen Hanli was taken aback and said, "Zombified maggots?"

This time, it was Qin Luzi who replied, "According to the forensic team, the victims were ability-users. We still couldn’t find their identities due to the missing ID cards. The zombified maggots were found on the corpses."

"If they were ability-users, how could they have a zombie virus in their bodies?" Wen Hanli asked with doubts.

"We can only wait for the test results to determine the reason. But our base currently doesn’t have anyone familiar with virus experiments," Xie Zhou replied.

After hearing this, Qin Luzi suddenly recalled that the Phantom Team has a genius in DNA mutation and also a virologist.
