Wang Hu followed Lin Feng to the guesthouse where Peng Tao was staying. Wang Hu walked directly into the alley beside it. Lin Feng glanced at him and entered the guesthouse.
"Hello, do you need to check in? Please show your ID." The receptionist at the guesthouse stood up immediately as Lin Feng entered and asked.
"Hello, my name is Lin Feng. I'm here to see Comrade Peng Tao, who is checking in today. I'm his friend. Could you please inform him?" The receptionist looked at Lin Feng and saw that he didn't seem like trouble. He nodded slightly. "Please wait a moment."
The receptionist turned and entered the guesthouse, walked to Peng Tao's room, and knocked on the door.
"Who is it?" Peng Tao asked vigilantly, looking up from the documents Lin Feng had given him.
Xiao He walked to the door and opened it when he saw it was the receptionist. "What is it?"
"There's a comrade named Lin Feng downstairs looking for you," the receptionist said, saluting Xiao He.
Xiao He looked at Peng Tao inside the room. Peng Tao immediately nodded. "Please invite him in! Thank you, comrade."
"You're welcome. Serving the people," the receptionist replied respectfully, saluting Peng Tao.
The receptionist returned to the counter and smiled at Lin Feng, who was still waiting. "Comrade Lin Feng, the commander-in-chief would like you to come in. He is in room 108. Please come in."
"Thank you, comrade," Lin Feng said with a smile to the receptionist and walked into the guesthouse.
Arriving at room 108, Xiao He opened the door. Lin Feng entered with the ledger, while Xiao He stepped out and stood guard at the door.
"What? Is there anything else you need to say?" Peng Tao asked, looking at Lin Feng.
Lin Feng handed the ledger to Peng Tao. "Take a look at this."
Peng Tao glanced at Lin Feng, then opened the ledger. His pupils contracted, and he looked at Lin Feng. "This is!"
"That's right, it's a ledger, Chen Long's ledger!" Lin Feng confirmed.
"Where did you get it? Are there others?" Peng Tao asked, looking at Lin Feng as he flipped to the end, clearly indicating there was another volume.
Lin Feng looked at Peng Tao and said slowly, "Do you remember how I caught Chen Long?"
"You said it was that skilled female comrade, who was on par with your strength, who gave her to you?" Peng Tao asked.
"She wanted me to pass it on to you!" Lin Feng explained, relaying his conversation with Wang Hu to Peng Tao. After listening, Peng Tao slammed the table. "What is this! Agreed, immediately agree! This is practically a gift to us!"
"Will the division commander agree?" Lin Feng asked.
"He will definitely agree. The division commander was just telling me that the higher-ups are preparing to open up the economy. For our country to develop, people must become rich. After the document for the immediate resumption of the college entrance examination is issued, the economy will follow the next year. It's a done deal, it can't escape." Peng Tao said earnestly to Lin Feng.
"Our country needs talent desperately right now. It's spring now, and it should be issued by the end of the year," Peng Tao said, looking at Lin Feng.
Lin Feng nodded.
"Aren't you worried?" Peng Tao asked.
Lin Feng shook his head.
"If she wants to go to school, I'll send her! Whatever she wants to do, I will support her," Lin Feng said slowly. "Her life is hers to decide."
"Aren't you afraid she'll meet other men after she goes to school? You say it lightly now, but don't come crying when your wife is snatched away later," Peng Tao said with a laugh.
"If that's her choice, I will support her," Lin Feng said seriously, glancing at Peng Tao.
Peng Tao looked at the chilling aura emanating from him; it didn't seem like he was just saying it…
"As long as you're confident!" Peng Tao chuckled, then his expression suddenly changed, and he slammed the table, saying to Lin Feng, "Now, hurry! Immediately! Right now! Get these ledgers for me first!"
"The person is at the door!" Lin Feng stood up calmly and walked out of the room.
Peng Tao paced excitedly in the room. Lin Feng walked out of the guesthouse and headed towards the alley where Wang Hu was. Seeing Wang Hu leaning against the wall, Lin Feng approached him. "The higher-ups have agreed to your request."
"Alright! I believe you!" Wang Hu shrugged and clapped his hands.
Liu Fei then emerged from the dark alley with a box and handed it to Wang Hu.
Wang Hu then transferred the box to Lin Feng. "This contains everything I found from all his establishments. He hid them quite deeply, but they couldn't escape my eyes."
"They weren't all concentrated in one place?" Lin Feng opened the box and casually glanced at a book, confirming it was a ledger, and asked Wang Hu.
"I found these ledgers in corners, hidden desk drawers, secret cabinets, and roof beams!" Wang Hu pointed to the marks on the books. "I'll search again when I get back, and if I find anything else, I'll send it to you."
"Thank you for your hard work! Please thank her and thank you on my behalf! These things are extremely important to us," Lin Feng said earnestly.
"Then thank her! I originally wanted to burn them, but she asked me to give them to you," Wang Hu said indifferently.
He had intended to show them to Fu Wenwen to ask her opinion. If it weren't for knowing her relationship with Lin Feng, he would have burned them long ago according to his own wishes.
"Alright, these matters have nothing to do with us common folk. We don't have any grand ambitions, we just want to earn money and make a living!" Wang Hu said, waving goodbye to Lin Feng as he prepared to leave with Liu Fei.
Lin Feng watched Wang Hu's retreating back, then returned to Peng Tao's room with the box. Peng Tao, seeing Lin Feng return, excitedly snatched the box from him and began flipping through the ledgers inside.
Peng Tao slapped his own thigh heavily. Looking at the involved sums, he gritted his teeth. "This is simply... simply a parasite on the nation!"
Lin Feng also picked up a few books and looked at them, falling into silence.
"Tomorrow, I'll personally go and speak with the local public security. Don't worry!" Peng Tao said to Lin Feng, remembering Wang Hu.
"Then I'll head back first! These... I'll take them back with me for now!" Lin Feng said to Peng Tao. Peng Tao paused, thought for a moment, and agreed.
It would be safer in Lin Feng's hands than in his.
Lin Feng returned home with the box and placed it in his room. He spent the entire night reviewing all the ledgers.
The next morning, Fu Wenwen woke up and saw Lin Feng with dark circles under his eyes. "What's wrong? Didn't you sleep all night?"
"Mmm," Lin Feng nodded. "Yesterday, I met someone who brought me concrete evidence, which was a great help. I stayed up all night reviewing everything that was sent, and finally understood why they were so audacious."
"People die for wealth, birds die for food," Fu Wenwen said slowly. "One always dares to take risks for what they desire."
"You're right!" Lin Feng agreed with Fu Wenwen and nodded.
Fu Wenwen made Lin Feng a bowl of noodles, specifically adding two fried eggs on top.
"Eat up! You have a tough battle to fight today! Eat well before going to the battlefield!" Fu Wenwen said with a smile.
