Chapter 83: Chapter 83: Put Away Your Shameful Schemes
Nora watched the fading silhouette, her heart beginning to tense.
In Jade Lockwood’s eyes, it looked as if Nora was trying to lure Jasper Sinclair.
Looking at Nora, she couldn’t help but mockingly laugh: "People from humble backgrounds really are different. Southwood Court probably seems like a high-end community to you all. But President Sinclair isn’t so poor as to live in such a place. The Sinclair Family has its own villas, so you should put away your little indecent thoughts!"
After Jade Lockwood finished speaking, she thought Nora would feel somewhat disheartened.
Instead, she saw a hint of relief.
What was this woman relieved about? All Jade felt was irritation, and all her anger was now directed at Nora.
"What, did you know President Sinclair would attend the banquet today, so you dressed in this tacky manner to get in? Let me tell you, high society isn’t a place you can marry into with little gimmicks. Looking good isn’t enough; you need ability and family status."
She unconsciously spoke with an air of superiority.
Nora looked at her with full disapproval.
"Aren’t you dressed in this tacky manner too?"
"Also, I don’t want to marry into this so-called high society as you suggest. If what you call high society is like this, then I have absolutely no interest."
She declared her stance in a deep voice, speaking as she prepared to leave.
But Jade Lockwood wasn’t satisfied, having lost the limelight and being insulted by this woman.
What qualifications did she have!
"How did you get in? Did you sneak in? Security! Someone’s crashed the banquet here!"
She spoke as she called for the staff nearby.
After returning last time, she had someone investigate Nora. No family background, no credentials—it seemed likely she coaxed some man to bring her in.
With arms folded, she watched Nora gleefully, just waiting for her to be ’escorted’ out by the staff.
But when the staff arrived and confirmed that Nora indeed had an invitation, the atmosphere turned awkward.
"Impossible!" She was shocked: "What’s going on with your banquet, how can just anyone be issued an invitation."
Once these words were out, the people around all changed their expressions, unsure of what Jade Lockwood meant.
Jade Lockwood seemed unaware of her misstep and continued her frenzied behavior.
A small Nora had embarrassed her so much, how could she tolerate it?
"I naturally came in openly with an invitation, Miss Lockwood. This is rather disrespectful."
Nora was generally kind, but that didn’t mean she wouldn’t stand her ground.
Last time, when this woman tried to seize the perfume from the master, Nora was already displeased.
Now, at the banquet, this woman indiscriminately tried to make her look bad. Even the most good-tempered person would be provoked.
Jade Lockwood quickly calmed down; even if she did crash the party, she belonged to a Perfumery House. Last time, Nora won by luck; surely, fortune wouldn’t always favor her.
Thinking this way, she became excited, as if boosted with energy.
"I was too nervous in front of the master last time. Just the right time today, let’s have a proper competition!"
She raised her chin, her arrogant, reckless manner annoying Nora.
"Why should I compete with you? Miss Lockwood, don’t make things difficult for someone." She frowned, always feeling this Lockwood girl was slightly neurotic.
