Chapter 9: Chapter 9: At Worst, We’ll Grow Old Together
On the other end of the phone, Nora Northwood thought Jasper Sinclair was talking to her. She thought for a moment and said, "I noticed you haven’t used the kitchen. Can I cook in there?"
Since they were married and living together, always eating out wasn’t a long-term plan.
Moreover, since Jasper Sinclair provided the housing, she should rightfully share the living expenses.
"It’s your home, do as you please!"
Home?
Nora’s heart trembled slightly at this word, and her nose inexplicably tingled. She had never owned one, yet someone she had only recently met called this her home.
Just as she was about to say thank you, the call was disconnected.
She held onto the phone for a while before coming back to her senses. Her once tense little face suddenly relaxed, like a fully drawn bow finally given a chance to breathe.
Although Jasper Sinclair said she could do as she pleased, Nora wouldn’t really be casual about it.
The four-bedroom, two-living-room house was spacious enough.
Among the two sun-facing bedrooms, she chose the smaller one, placing her clothes in the empty closet. Sunlight streamed in from outside the window, and even the air seemed free.
There were no endless quarrels, no more exasperation from others randomly entering her room to pile up clutter; everything seemed to become better.
Nora bought groceries from a nearby supermarket to stock the empty refrigerator and planned to bring back some potted plants in the evening from the flower shop to decorate the living room, which was still sparse.
As she tidied up diligently, Grandma Sinclair called.
"Nora, did you call Grandma? Is something wrong?"
With surgery imminent, Grandma Sinclair had picked up her phone to give some instructions, but seeing Nora’s call, she feared there might be an urgent matter, prompting her call back.
"No, Grandma, I just wanted to let you know that I’ve moved in with Mr. Sinclair!"
She didn’t mention the issue of not being able to enter and kept her tone as relaxed as possible, so as not to worry the elderly woman.
Upon hearing this, Grandma Sinclair was delighted, "Nora, since you’ve both registered your marriage, why still call him Mr. Sinclair? Call him Jasper!"
"Okay!" Nora obediently agreed, "What kind of soup do you like, Grandma? I’ll bring it when I come to see you on Monday!"
Two days to go.
Grandma Sinclair thought she should be discharged by then.
"No need to prepare anything; on Monday, I’ll have Jasper bring you back to the old mansion for dinner, and you can meet the family relatives!"
After chatting a little more, they ended the call.
Grandma Sinclair handed the phone to Raina Sinclair, who was standing by the bedside, "Great, now that they are living together, I can foresee great-grandchildren. Do you think we should buy some land to build a playground for my great-grandchild?"
Raina Sinclair was at a loss for words, her usually cold and elegant expression cracking slightly.
"Mom, do you think Jasper will obediently consummate the marriage? You forced him into this marriage; don’t end up with the girl becoming a widow!"
"Impossible, you haven’t seen Nora. She’s such a beauty and has a wonderful personality. I have a feeling Jasper will definitely like her!"
Grandma Sinclair wasn’t worried at all and cheerfully instructed Raina Sinclair to prepare for the family banquet on Monday.
Raina Sinclair sighed, "Mom, our second sister-in-law’s niece has always wanted to marry Jasper, and now you’ve gone straight to the point; she’s likely to have objections!"
"I’m not dead yet! This family isn’t hers to rule! Objections? Let her keep them to herself!"
Grandma Sinclair was full of spirit, not like someone in her seventies at all.
"If you want to protect this Nora, take the surgery seriously; otherwise, those sinister forces in the Sinclair family might devour her completely."
Raina Sinclair was trying various ways to give the old lady something to hold on to.
She feared that once Jasper got married, the old lady might relax and something might go wrong.
Grandma Sinclair could hear her intentions clearly and gave her a sidelong glance.
"Arrange for the surgery!"
