Chapter 14: The Inescapable Birth Family

Chapter 14: Chapter 14: The Inescapable Birth Family

"Is there anything Mr. Sinclair wants to eat for dinner?" Seeing Jasper Sinclair get up to go to work, she asked casually.

Since they were already married, she also decided to live well with Jasper Sinclair.

Jasper’s hand paused on the door handle, and his expression became a little peculiar.

After a long moment, he finally replied softly, "Anything is fine."

After all, even if he mentioned what he usually eats, Nora Northwood might not be able to prepare it, not to mention that his identity would be revealed by then.

Outside the neighborhood, the secretary had been waiting by the roadside early and hurriedly opened the car door at the sight of him.

Although he didn’t know why the president was so mysterious, as an employee, it was better not to ask too many questions.

Back at home, after Nora Northwood had tidied up everything, she also went out.

As soon as she arrived at the flower shop’s entrance, she saw May Lawrence waiting outside.

Her expression changed slightly, but she still walked over: "Mom, what are you doing here?"

"How can you talk like that? I came to see you." May Lawrence walked over, looking somewhat displeased.

Nora didn’t want to make a scene outside, so with great reluctance, she opened the door and let her in.

"Speak up, why are you here to see me?" Sitting on the visitor’s couch, she spoke flatly.

"It’s nothing major, you got married so suddenly, mom just came to see if the family you married into treats you well."

May Lawrence moved closer, trying to hold her hand, but was stunned by the cold look in Nora’s eyes.

After a while, she said in a low voice, "Your uncle said he spoke too harshly that day. After all, it’s a major life event, and as parents, we still need to look out for you. If you’re unwilling to bring him home, then we might as well visit you and see how he treats you."

"It’s not necessary." Even though Nora already knew what May Lawrence was like, at this moment, she still felt as if her heart was being pricked by needles: "It was agreed back then, once the 188,000 bride price was in hand, we would be done with each other. There’s no need for your fake concern."

After she finished speaking, she saw May’s face change suddenly. She wanted to say something but ended up just sighing.

"What kind of talk is that? I am your mother; isn’t it normal for me to be concerned about you? Besides, Spencer also said he wants to meet his brother-in-law, whom he has never seen."

Her words were nicely put, but Nora didn’t believe a single word.

Wasn’t it clear why Quentin Ford had sent May to say this?

It was just because they knew Mr. Sinclair had money, and they wanted to latch onto him, like leeches. If they couldn’t get benefits from Nora, they would make a move on Mr. Sinclair.

"You don’t need to worry. My husband treats me very well."

Seeing her constantly refuse, May’s eyes turned slightly red, her voice seeming a bit complex: "I know, but your Uncle Ford insists, and I’m out of options too. Just listen to mom. Your brother’s coming home this weekend, and we’ll head over to Southwood Court to see you."

She softened her voice, knowing that every time she did so, Nora wouldn’t refuse. Knowing this, she got up and left soon after.

After they left, Nora couldn’t hold it in any longer and curled up on the sofa crying.

She had thought that once she had the money, she could be free from that family, but it turned out Quentin Ford still wouldn’t let her go.

The sound of sobbing echoed in the room, and when Lily Sloan entered, her heart sank at the sound of her cries.

"What happened? Is that scumbag Christian Quinn making trouble for you again?"

Thinking of what Christian Quinn had said when he left that day, she felt her anger surge instantly, nearly prompting her to rush out and teach that bastard a lesson.
