Chapter 188: Chapter 188: Not Pursuing Something Worth Ten Million?

Nora Northwood’s words felt like a blow to May Lawrence.

Her gaze was both ashamed and disheartened.

The daughter she raised dared to speak to her like this. Although she had vaguely suspected something before, she didn’t expect Spencer Ford to actually dare and repeatedly meddle with Jasper Sinclair’s belongings.

"How can you speak to your mother like this? If I had known, I would have..."

Nora, with keen ears, heard her say that and looked over somewhat puzzled: "You would have what?"

May avoided her gaze and shook her head, finally just saying, "If I had known, I should have left you with your grandparents!"

After she said this, Nora didn’t think much of it and, unwilling to waste more words with her, opened the door and left.

The head of the police was also outside.

This matter was relatively easy to investigate, as Spencer was just a child, and it would be easy to find out.

The difficult part, however, was...

"President Sinclair, he’s so young, how should we handle this?" The officer asked tentatively, probing Jasper Sinclair’s attitude.

If it was a family matter, they would just issue a warning to prevent the child from going astray in the future.

But looking at Jasper Sinclair’s expression, it was clearly not the case.

"Handle it according to the law." With a wave of his hand, the police took Spencer Ford away for further investigation.

"President Sinclair, please forgive me. I won’t dare again, I won’t dare disrespect Nora again."

As Spencer was taken away, he was still begging for forgiveness.

But both Nora and Jasper knew that his words were only out of fear in the moment.

May sat collapsed on the floor, having accompanied the studies to this point, knowing Quentin Ford would not spare her if he found out.

"What, do you still need me to ask you to leave?" Jasper cast a glance at her.

That glance was cold and devoid of warmth, making May feel a chill throughout her body.

But if she left like this, what would happen to Spencer?

"President Sinclair, Spencer knows he’s wrong. Please, be generous and let this matter go."

If this gets blown up, it might even affect the school.

Her eyes reddened again.

For so many years, she had no other skills, but crying easily was her big strength, something Nora had long seen through.

It was always like this, using this tactic to force her to give in.

But May was wrong; the person in front of her was Jasper Sinclair, not Nora.

"Why shouldn’t I pursue it? A wristwatch worth five million, a crystal brooch worth three million, even a pearwood comb for brushing hair costs tens of thousands."

"Nearly ten million in items, and you say I shouldn’t pursue it?"

With a cold snort, Jasper looked at her with disdain.

"My wife is kind and mindful of your mother-daughter relationship, which is why I haven’t directly thrown you out, but I hope you have the sense to leave on your own."

"By the way, a lawyer will be contacting you in a few days with a document for you to sign. I hope you sign it promptly."

Nora turned away with reddened eyes, knowing that signing this agreement would sever all ties with May.

Yet, having been through so much together over the years, feeling a bit reluctant was normal.

May shakily got up, wanting to say something but was pulled out by Sid in the next second.

"Nora, think this over. If you can’t let go, things like this will only happen again and again."

He worried that Nora wouldn’t be able to let go and would ultimately be hurt by her family again.

She shook her head, "There’s definitely some reluctance, but I don’t regret it."

With those words, Jasper knew what to do.
